Title: Elder Scrolls Lore: CHeating Is for Multiplayer
Post by: Krakow Sam on April 28, 2012, 03:55:19 am
This thread isn't for discussing how Bethesda games are full of bugs, lazy design, crappy dialogue and yet are always hugely popular (which they are).

Once you do a little reading around the subject, either in books in-game or collected on the internet, The Elder Scrolls series has one of the most compelling and brilliantly put together settings ever seen in video games. A lot of thought has gone into make a mythology which feels like a real religion, incorporating not only what is presented in the games, but also the fact that it all exists within a video game in the first place.

This article is a good place to start:

Happy reading Neverarine.

hey so, sorry to necromance this topic, i was gonna make my own but i did the search first (which is encouraged i think)

I love ES lore, it's so infinitely dense and unique and interesting - the whole "CHIM is save scumming and console commands" thing, the nuance of who the nerevarine is and whether they are a messiah or a job title (the not-nuance of "look you're the dragonborn, you have sick powers" was alright too though), the fact that there are lost continents like yokuda, atmora, and aldmeris, and of course akavir which is not lost but must be pretty ****ty considering how rough it is there for anyone who isn't the taesci

i think one of the coolest in-game things i ever experienced was how they revisited Solstheim in two different games, and 200 years later it had become New Vvardenfell because the magic rock got dropped on to Vivec cause Vivec wasn't there anymore and it ran out of souls to eat and the entire island exploded

so it was cool seeing how all the immigrants from Vvardenfell had transplanted their culture to a new island off the coast of skyrim
