Title: SpamBots
Post by: Cyst on November 23, 2011, 11:33:53 pm
Recently there has been a huge influx of spambots. Could we get a better human checker thing? That'd be super.

THANKS FOR BRINGING THIS TO OUR ATTENTION. WE DIDN'T NOTICE IT AT ALL UNTIL YOU BROUGHT THIS TO OUR ATTENTION.

I never said nobody noticed. I was just asking for it to end.

Just wondering, but what does it take to register now? You don't have to enter a code displayed in an image?

There are spam protectors on the site but the bots get smarter. So just hit the report button on the ones that get through and we'll delete them.

Well it was already addressed about two weeks ago. So pay attention. My signature hasn't changed in five years and LadyM tires of having to tell you to report problem posts.

I know that's what I need to do, and I do such often. I was just bringing up the topic.

Now they're propagandabots?

Any odds of tighter anti-bot measures? Say....the normal captcha and a logic question or two? I know that's a bit much but it seems a waste of time for the mods to have to clean up these messes.
Still want to get back at these Ugg bastards... there are better ways to advertise your overpriced boots and such than through spamming forums.

I have turned off the registration feature for now and will be updating the site to version 2.0.2 shortly (currently setting up a dev environment to test the update since it's pretty big). But with the site updated to SMF version 2.0.2 the spambots should stop and we'll have a new updated forum! Should have the new version up within the week.

Ah! Sweet. Hopefully that will also fix the issue I've been having with logging in as a moderator.

What have you been up to Steve?

Or, at least, that's my theory.

...there can be other theories.
