We've got a Metro 2033 sequel at the show, a new console announcement, AND Activision will reveal how stupid CoD fans are when they announce the payment scheme that millions will abide by.

Of course I'm excited! **** you!

Well, I already heard about the Metal Gear Solid HD collection. Now I'm interested in Hitman: Absolution, not much else. EDIT: Oh yeah. And Dark Souls. How could I forget?
I'll be there to watch the whole thing though. Almost missed out on that stupid hilarious private Konami conference.

So in theory, next year's E3 when PS4 and Xbox 720 are announced, things will be EPIC!!!!

All the hootin' and hollerin' I hear from gamers is eerily similar to all the past Nintendo press conferences, particularly with most games related to the Kinect.
Title: Re: E3 - 2011
Post by: ilikesanta on June 06, 2011, 11:11:17 am
MS Press conference started alright, showing games and having kinect features added to games. Then there was the kinect section, good lord how bad was that. fable 4 a on rails shooter, fudge that, Star Wars: the arm failing, kill me now.

My Highlights: The new Kinect Hub looks good
Minecraft! (the only MEGATON)
Dance Central 2
Kinect Labs could do some neat stuff.
Ghost Recon Gun Modding looked slick.

Lowlights
Everything else in the Kinect Section. Good lord that was bad.

You're mistaking them.

They are mad at Microsoft's apparent inability to learn from past mistakes. Nintendo messed up hard with all this same stuff two years ago. And Microsoft has gone and done almost the exact same thing.
Title: Re: E3 - 2011
Post by: gec05 on June 06, 2011, 11:51:13 am
That's what I'm talking about. MS is doing the same thing Nintendo did.

You'd think these people who claim to stand by hardcore gamers would try to market this stuff outside of E3 instead of subjecting them to it.

indeed. i was wondering if MS was in fact making an Xbox conference or advertising for the voice system of Windows 8.

i hate when companies get hopped on gimmicks and forget it's games that gamers want...

Ubisoft's was kinda fun. Looking forward to Farcry 3, but not much else.
I liked the energy of some of the presenters, even though the games largely didn't appeal to me personally.

Another hour or so until Sony. This one is big so I hope you guys watch.
Stop by the IRC for the added fun of commentary, heckling, larfing, and cringing.

Seriously, you can really feel the collective cringing when those moments come up.

EDIT: Sony is up next. This should be a good end to the day.

The best thing at e3 so far in my opinion is BF3
it uses an upgraded version of the engine used to make 1943,  in that everything is fully destructible

here is a video that was shown at e3
http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/videos/98d580f003660310VgnVCM1000001065140aRCRD

this isn't the exact video, but close,
the best part is at the end, when they take out a helicopter with a building

Sony's conference can be summed up in one word - Boring. The sad thing is that it's probably still better then Microsoft's (mostly because on the kinect crap) Sony could have cut a lot of stuff down.

The Good:
Uncharted 3
New Bio Shock (i was going to buy these games anyway)
vita Price point (3DS needs some hot games quick)

The Bad:
So bored
Ken Levines ramblings on the move
The Move games
Vita has Party chat but not the PS3?

Wow Nintendo doesn't need to do much to "win" E3, and they are showing new hardware to begin with. Damn I'm calling it now.

Worldwide Sales

Wii 86.01 million as of 31 March 2011
Xbox 360 55 million as of 4 June 2011
PlayStation 3 50 million as of 31 March 2011

That's the only metric for "winning."

Not even that Tesla. Profit is all that matters. If they only sold a thousand consoles but somehow managed to make billions and billions of profit then whoever that was would be 'winning'

GameCube turned a profit on every unit sold. PS2 didn't make profit for YEARS and the XBox was a black hole, Microsoft didn't turn a profit until a few years ago with the 360. And as far as I know, the Microsoft games division is still a billion dollars in the red.

So yeah, Nintendo has been doing pretty well for itself. You should stop saying things, Clayface.

OH boy Nintendo is about to start.

*Edit: Wii U?

**Edit 2

It's over and I'm kinda dumbfounded by Nintendo's press conference. I still don't know what to think of Wii U, I feel like I should feel more excited?

The Good: Orcrastra playing Zelda Music live <3
3DS game lineup looks good
Drawing on the Pad controller looked sweet
All Wii plastic forward compatible

The Bad: Too much yapping on Zelda
The bird Video
No Price or Specs?

The whaa?
Everything else concerning the Wii U

I skipped this past gen of consoles.  The Wii-u looks like something that could definitely earn its keep.

Though one big question is...multiple video controllers?  They showed one video controller and multiple wii-motes, but I'm wondering if it will be able to handle more than one video output stream.  And if you have to buy another new controller, it can't be cheap.  I would guess $100 for the controller at the very least.

By the look of the thing I'm guessing only one pad controller at a time. It might be able to handle more, but the controller by itself is probably to expensive to expect people to buy and extra controller.

I haven't caught up on stuff today yet but Nintendo may be winning profit wise...which really is all that matters to them. But I don't consider their console a victory when people buy it and it becomes an expensive dust collector because its a piece of gimmicky garbage with very few good games for it, and even most of the good games for it pale in comparison to the other consoles *decent* games. (Ironically I own TWO wii's only one game is ever played on them, monster hunter tri)

So yeah a win for Nintendo, and a big fat loss for its gamers. Now I gotta go look at their new console..probably more gimmicky casual trash but its worth looking at before I say more.
Title: Re: E3 - 2011

They didn't show a single casual game for the Wii U. They'll probably exist, but waggle seems to have gone away as the main mode of control.

I don't have time to watch it all because I have to go to work, but it looks like the Wii U is just a new controller for the existing wii and not a new console huh?

I cant see people doing that again, they marketed wii motion plus (something that should have been on the wii at launch) and people bought it..and then almost nothing motion plus related came out and the stuff that did saw almost no difference from non wii motion plus games. I cant really see people going and buying another add on for the wii. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my behalf.

Are you serious, dude? You're supposed to be one of the consistently smart members of the forum and here you are blabbering on with tired and factually inaccurate arguments. I admit to being a Nintendo fanboy, but I WILL NOT let you sling crap like that.

The fact that the Wii sold well is just the icing on the cake. We're talking about some of the best games that have ever been made being released on the Wii. Even without massive third party support, Nintendo's achievements with its first party titles on the Wii is nothing to dismiss. It's a shame you bought into the "it's a gimmick" line that the competition have been peddling, because you're missing Mario Galaxy, Donkey Kong, Zelda, BIT.TRIP, A Boy and his Blob, among others.

Really, the Wii is a remarkable success and shows just how good Nintendo is at making games. They're the best. And yes, Nintendo made mistakes. They ignored the hardcore and fell horribly behind in the online space. Certainly more could have been done to tie the handhelds and the console together. And I'll even admit that Nintendo went overboard with making some of their core IPs casual-oriented (Kirby in particular). But to come here and have the stones to say that the Wii is a failure, and then to conclude that Nintendo's best offerings on the Wii pale in comparison to the competition's "regular" stock. Gorman... really? Really?

You go back and come up with a proper post filled with proper reasons why you think the Wii is a failure. Not some elitist, snooty BS that ignores the facts. You're just looking for a reason to say that Nintendo sucked and that's not right and I will not tolerate it.

Okay Pat fine, The nintendo wii is a failure in my eyes because the moment I walk in to gamestop and look at the wii section I have to wade through literally 90% of shovel ware like stuff like deca sports and one hundred sports and mini game clones, games like cooking mama with absolutely no substance just to find a good game, and even then those *good* games are normally sub par and outdated. You cited donkey kong, the exact same game we played on the SNES with a graphics upgrade, same with super mario brothers wii.

Galaxy is pretty good, its only my personal preference that rules against it, I don't find that game fun because its a walk in the park, my mom loves Donkey kong, SMPW and Galaxy, shes 50 years old and not a gamer, and there's my problem with the console, its not for gamers, but it tries to pretend it is.

The whole waggle thing is an attempt to fix what is not broken, innovation in games is great, but PC gamers never complained about using a mouse and keyboard, and  I never complained about normal controllers, the whole motion thing flopped hard, very few games use it well, even my monster hunter tri simply uses motions to trigger a canned animation as if you just pushed a button and that's what a lot of wii games do, very few games actually mimic your movements or at least do it well. So what happened? every old franchise and its mother got a new side scroller thats what happened. And how do you play these games? you turn the damn controller sideways and use it as a normal controller abandoning half of perks you marketed the console with.

The wiis best games use the console and its controller to play like the other consoles play, if its best games are to be played in the same way I would play a 360 game, yet lacks all the graphical and processing power that the 360 has..I don't consider that a win.

I can count the amount of good wii games on my hands, without bias, not just games I like, but non shovel ware games. And many of those like I said feel old and outdated. The wii sold a ton of consoles, but not a ton of games, and some of its best sellers are stuff like Wii fit, I don't know about you, but I've never lost any sleep over being excited for the next exercise game.

I don't think Nintendo sucks, I think the Wii sucks and I think because the wii sucks and is doing well its hurting the industry, case in point, the 360 kinect and the playstation move.

If the WII U keeps its promises I may not share that sentiment with it, but the Wii to me is something done terribly wrong marketed very right.

The Wii is behind its competitors in power, has terrible online capability, marketed itself on its motion capability but failed to do them well, the vast majority of games that exist for it are budget mini game or sports collections. Its best games rarely use the motion capability if at all (Smash bros, NSMB, DK) some of its best sellers are games revolving around working out and getting in shape. Most of its games lack depth of any kind and are incredibly simple and easy. That is why I think it is a failure as a game console, a failure for gamers, not Nintendo.

Mind you this is all just my opinion, you are of the opinion that some of the best games ever have been released on the Wii and I think its insane but its your opinion, I wouldn't rate galaxy DK or any of that above an 8, good games but nothing special. We will just have to agree to disagree on that.

That's an awfully narrow-minded perspective to be coming from. It's just games... they're supposed to be fun. I don't care if it's Super Mario 750. If it's fun, I'll buy it and love it! Heck, if Madden Football suddenly becomes spectacularly awesome and it's only that way on the PlayStation, I'll buy that!

The great games on the Wii might not be readily apparent because they're no hype train for you to follow. But if you took some time and looked around, you'd see that there are a ton of really great games to play on the Wii. And that's about it. The Wii is a wonderful console and worth the time.

I'm kinda disappointed that the Wii never got a Pikmin game (unless you count the pikmin 2 port), really kinda of lame that it decided to skip a console generation. Hopefully the Wii U is keeps its promises about being as good as they say.

Sorry for the double, but I feel this is worth posting.

http://venturebeat.com/2011/06/08/nintendo-admits-e3-wii-u-reel-used-ps3-and-xbox-360-clips/

If it could not have been demonstrated on its own merits, then it simply did not need to be shown yet. I don't think its a good idea to show clips from your competitors while saying, "we promise our games will look like theirs!"

Reggie admitted this plainly and simply yesterday. There's no problem here. The system is still at least a year away and a production model hasn't been finalized. I can see how video games become markedly less entertaining when you dedicate even a moment of your time to hating the competition for arbitrary reasons. You're just a hater, Gorman. Plain and simple.

And haters gonna hate.

Plus, at one point or another, most of the major console companies did something similar.
The comment thread here (http://kotaku.com/5809744/nintendo-used-360-ps3--pc-game-footage-in-its-wii-u-demo-reel) has some examples.

My hate is reasonably founded for the wii and I stated my reasons why, I don't hate the Wii U, I just think that was a terrible mistake because even if the console does end up looking like its competition then its still 7 years late in that department. If the Wii U is not due until after next E3 (which it seems that way) then wouldn't of it been a better idea and wait and show it off..when you can actually show it off?

I'm aware of little kings story, but that's a poor substitute, its like complaining that there's no Pokemon so someone points you to Digimon.

those are pour examples,
example 1,
mr game and watch compared to DS,
yes both have 2 screens, but ds is touch screen,

next up,
powerglove vs. wiimote?
.....honestly?

can't comment on virtual boy vs 3ds as i didn't own either of them,

but this last one is the worst of all,
as the WiiU controllers aren't separate game systems on their own,
I think it'd be better compared to Dreamcast / VMU, since the controller for the dreamcast had a screen, and could be played as a separate game system and yet still only be part of the dreamcast,

I think the joke is that Nintendo is going back and improving their old ideas now that they have the technology to do them right.

well, they use something similar for motion capture these days, for animating,
would just need to take it 1 step farther to make it control a hand / arm / fingers in game,
would work well with head mounted displays instead of TV screens

Hey a new mario party and an actual Kirby game..not a stupid yarn version of Kirby!

maybe my Wii will get some use this year, as much as I hate to see mario continue to be abused I have always enjoyed playing Mario party with my friends..Mario party 8 was terrible though..

The Wii mario parties suck.

For this game: Waggle your Wii mote side to side.

For this game: Flail your Wii mote up and down.

For this game: Waggle your Wii mote up and down.

No we swear, there is a real challenge somewhere in here.

i liked the wii mario party,

EropS it's not supposed to be a challenge, it's supposed to be a contest,
its not, "see if you can do this super hard thing"
its, "here is this easy thing, who does it the best / fastest"

I just wish the wii one had more mini games,
they should make a mario party and put all of the mini games from all 8 or however many there are into 1 game, that'd be epic
Title: Re: E3 - 2011

It's not a contest when 'waggling' in most of the mini games is sheer dumb luck as to who's waggles get registered the quickest.

E3 goes on for one more day. The only thing I'm interested in for tomorrow is more Dark Souls. We may see more coverage come out from private conferences but I guess that's about all we're gonna get.
It was fun but not as fun as that time Reggie got his face burned off by Bowser.
