Title: Wii U
Post by: gec05 on April 14, 2011, 01:02:00 pm
Pretty standard rote coming from Nintendo. Especially when rumors like this (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/04/14/new-nintendo-console-at-e3.aspx) start going around. True, this is just rumor. Then again, what objective is there for someone to fabricate something like this. Secondly, can Nintendo continue to push current stagnant Wii sales with almost no big titles coming through in the coming Months for the home console? It's a given that a new console will come. And judging by current feelings coming from investors and analysts, this seems to be the right conditions for Nintendo to show what they have next.

Discussion commence.

That's weird.  I could've sworn the Wii2 was confirmed a while ago.

I remember seeing an article about a rumored "Wii 2.0" a long time ago. Maybe 2009, early 2010?

That wasn't from a very good source though.

I've seen them too, but they were all speculation and predictions. But this one claims that it's now totally legit and sure to be announced this E3.

Sure this is just another rumor. But it also makes sense. The Wii craze is officially dead and stagnant. Time to let it live out the rest of it's cycle and start talking about next gen.

This is basically DS functionality in home console form. Nintendo probably wont be using 3D on those controllers. Or that could hurt the 3DS itself.

Also, this makes local Mario Kart parties much more convenient not having to use split screen like that.

This looks like the handhelds-as-controllers stuff they've been trying to make work since the GBA and Gamecube, and it never caught on.  I'm not sure how I feel about it.

It never worked because of the peripherals you had to buy for it. (console, handheled, cable) The Cafe solution is ready out-of-the-box and potentially open to any game developed for it. The only thing it needs is rechargable batteries built-in as well. That's one of the things that sucked about Wiimotes, forcing you to buy more batteries or paying for a recharge package.

Project Dolphin was the dev name for the GameCube. It's been released already.

Don't believe me? Turn your GameCube controllers over and look at the model number on the back. It's DOL-003. Nintendo does this with all of their products. Check out Nitro, while you're at it. :D

One thing i was knidy surprised about, but they can totally add, was the lack of a camera on the back of the controller. You think they would be all about the augmented reality in your living room. Imagine holding up the pad and seeing Mario jump out of your tv and start running around your living room. AR is the future!

From the Nintendo livestream... (http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu)

Quote from: Nintendo
Wii U goes on sale on 11/18! You'll have two options to choose from. The Basic Set includes the console and GamePad in white, AC adapters, HDMI cable and a sensor bar ($299.99 MSRP). The Deluxe Set includes everything in the Basic Set with black hardware, plus Nintendo Land, the Wii U console stand, a GamePad cradle, and additional storage memory ($349.99 MSRP).

I could have sworn on a stack of burning bibles that there was a Yarn Yoshi topic. Either way, reviews are coming in. Scoring solid 7s and 8s. There's a minor kerfuffle over GameSpot and their apparent inability to review platformers.

http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/yoshi-s-woolly-world-review/1900-6416168/

Check this one out. The second paragraph is gold.

For more entertainment, check out GameSpot's review of DK Tropical Freeze. They really don't get platformers.

Nearly have everything in Amiibo Tap unlocked. I kinda wish if you bought enough amiibo figures to unlock everything (30) that the time limit would go away for the demos. Each amiibo runs about 13 bucks, so you're looking at almost 500 dollars to get 30 amiibo figures. That seems like a fair trade.

Anyway! Two more to go. Looking to get Dr. Mario and Sheik soon.

Mario Kart 8 and all the DLC.

How cheap are you getting it? It might be worth your while (after crunching the numbers) to get the Kart bundle since DLC is included. They should still be pretty easy to get.

Otherwise, I enjoyed Star Fox Zero, but try that one out first if you can. If I wasn't a Star Fox fan I can't say if I'd recommend it.
LEGO City Undercover is good fun.
Star Fox Guard is very good.
Bayonetta 2 (see if you can get the copy that comes with Bayonetta 1 included) is also great.
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is a ton of fun and probably one of the most polished games I've ever seen.
Rayman Legends is good.
New Super Mario Bros. is great if you like platforming.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is fun, easy, and gorgeous to behold.
Wonderful 101 is hard and fun and hard.
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is a must-own game for this system.
Super Mario Maker is also worth getting, even if you don't love platformers.

Those are all the games I own that you didn't already mention. You may also want to look into some choice Wii games like A Boy and His Blob, Okami, Punch-Out!!, and Excitebots Trick Racing. Also also, if you already own a Wii, make sure to hang onto it so you can do a System Transfer. You'll be able to re-download anything you purchased on that Wii onto your Wii U.
