I am disappointed in the fact that the split-screen co-op is limited to an arena mode. In any case its freaking monster hunter so it shall be awesome!.

As long as they don't botch the online multiplayer with pay to play this game could actually get a bigger fan base out of japan

I'm planning on picking up a copy once I get around to negotiating the use of the wii from my sister.

I plan on using the switch axe and mastering it along with great sword

Oh man my favorite game series...makes me almost wish I still had a Wii...almost.

Ill wait for Monster hunter frontier to release for the 360, still I hope Tri does good on the Wii. The series needs a larger fan base outside of Japan.

Eh...ill take back what I said back. Monster hunter being my favorite series I am yearning for this game. Really wish I had a wii, cant afford one and even if I could I couldn't logically spend over 200$ for a single game. No matter how much i might want to.  :(

Yeah I know double post. I caved and got this game and I have no idea what I'm doing I spent an hour killing Jaggi. How do I convert the kills into resources to complete the quest I'm getting plenty of scales and stuff off them but how do I actually put them to the quest?

Edit: Also I was told in the tutorial I can regain health from from the blue mushrooms and honey I have gathered how in the heck do I do that? I'm trying to click on the items in my inv all I seem to be able to is reorder everything. The only thing I worked out how to eat was the meat I gathered after I cooked it.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Gorman Conall on May 01, 2010, 04:00:11 pm
You can only convert kills in to resources from free roaming on the forest, not quests. Talk to the guy standing on the crate in the village and pick hunt report and he will convert your kills in to resources.

You can combine blue mushrooms and herbs to create potions, and combine honey and potions to make mega potions. By itself the blue mushroom does not regain health, but the potions do.

Ah so I need to find some herbs 1st before I can make potions well that makes some more sense. Thanks Gorman I got the resource conversion working so everything can move forward now. Expect further noob questions from me though.

Now I'm trying to find a torch so I can go into the cave to do ore mining. I see a white butterfly near the entrance but it won't let me interact with it.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Yossitaru on May 02, 2010, 01:25:54 am
Butterflies seem to indicate insects which you need a bug net to capture.

Also, which weapons have you guys been trying out? I'm getting pretty good with the lance and the hammer. Using one after using the other for a while is pretty disorienting since they are vastly different weapons.

its a torch to the left of the entrance, right there at the gate

you dont really need it though, you can still see in the caves

My TV is somewhat dark so I actually have to use the torch. Its to the left of where you enter the forest.

I'm a long time vet of the series and I have always been a fan of gunbows. But in unite I took a liking to the gun lance. In this one I quite like the switch axe because its vials are almost like the wyvern fire on the gun lance.
(Sorry if this post ends up botched, I'm posting it from the Wii)

I'm just kind of guessing from your earlier statement, but to get into a quest you have to talk to the Guild Quest Gal in the left side of the village above the vendor. After you have the quest go directly left onto the dock to begin your quest.

Also since were talking about weapons, I'm just using the GS (HA HA HA HA) right now since it's what I'm mostly used to, though back in MHU I also used the gunlance. Then I would have taken twin swords but they were gone too. Also hating on how they removed the normal farm and stuff.

I hope the DSL's have some of this stuff, why did they remove such good elements  :-\.

Okay, double posting just to bump this for a moment, but for a multiplayer game we aren't doing much about it. Can anyone here set for a good time they can usually play?
Me and Yossi have been able to play quite a few times at 12 midnight so far, every other day or so.  Both HR3, having problems with the R.Ludroth, probably for stupid reasons.
Anyone else able to play at a time like that? Ehhh... 14 and a half hours later than at this post.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Gorman Conall on May 05, 2010, 05:06:46 pm
Unfortunately I cant play midnight games with you guys, I'm working some flea markets May and June so I'm usually in bed before midnight. But ill post my code later (when i get on and see what it is) and maybe I can play with you sometime.

I think I'm HR 16.

Well, if just after midnight is your problem I think we could probably play, just making it clear for... Cobra. Really I'm good to deviate about six hours backwards >_>

Ah right, I said twelve since I can't really speak for Yossi, who's still stuck then.

Getting back into the single player a bit, it really is a lot easier than the multiplayer equivalents. Where it takes Kratok and I over 40 minutes to beat down a Lagiacrus to the point where we can capture it, I can take down to death the same thing in single in about 20 minutes, with the same weapon and armor.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Kaizer on October 21, 2010, 03:44:59 pm
so here's my breakdown to success

play singleplayer till you can acquire barroth armor(for melee)
gem it to negate the -expertise
farm one of the dragon element weapons (the ones requiring jumbo pearls)
go online
team up with three competent players (rare to find them -.-)
get 2 star quests
farm rathian
??
profit

online is only hard if you don't go for a full team, with four of us as melee users properly set up we can usually down a rathian in 10 minutes tops

although I do prefer having a gunner since a sleep shot+all of us doing double large barrel bomb+ to their faces will basically insta-win
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Gorman Conall on October 31, 2010, 12:34:12 pm
I disagree, I feel single player and online should be separated completely. Nothing worse then looking for other HR1s and finding them fully equipped in Lagis armor and weapons who one shots anything you can fight for the next 8 hours.

I generally only hunt online with Serenity because its so dang hard to find teammates for an appropriate power level.

anybody still playing? I'm HR 30ish havent checked in awhile

Post by: Gauphastus on March 19, 2011, 09:33:03 pm
Strange coincidence. I just got a LAN adapter so I could stick around online reliably. Got that all set up decently I think.
Played some rounds with Kratok but in the end, he was the one getting disconnected more than me. It was kind of surprising given what I had just experienced without the adapter.
My god, so frustrating.

I'm HR4 with jaggi gear and some.. chieftain's great sword thing. I'll get my HR up a ways as I pop in now and again and let you know.

Not sure if you can friend me while I'm offline, but try to look up my character, Gauph. I can't remember my code.. let's see.
There, found in chat logs. 98XBGP

Pretty good connection, aside from sync issues, but we've had those since Monster Hunter 1. _

EDIT: Oh yeah. So I'm not playing currently. I take breaks all the time, so I might just be done for the day at this point.
I'll be around though.
Want dat powah.

EDIT2: And the word censor is retarded. I can't say "after".

EDIT2: And the word censor is retarded. I can't say "after".

That's everyone's gripe, but from what I've heard the word is apparently profane in another language... German I think? Not entirely sure but there's also some odd cases..

Framerate, admin, and administrator are blocked but douchebag, retarded and puto (yes it's a slang term but seriously, how does one get away with that?) aren't... Whomever came up with the censorship system were high off their ass. What makes it more funny is that even before you make it online it mentions that server updates are constant.. it's been out for this long and they haven't taken notice to this? BS.

Also for your sake Gauph I suggest you stay off for a few days till this Jhen Mohran event dies off. The server has been acting nuts, randomly kicking people left and right, just an hour ago I was in the middle of a Lagiacrus quest and the next thing you know my partners got kicked. I soon followed suit with the connection error.. so yeah, offline play would be a good idea.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Kaizer on March 24, 2011, 04:34:07 pm
ahh the low level jhen mohran.

why they would allow low rank players to fight the final boss of the low tier at around hr 10 confounds me.

I have issues fighting him in my full lagiacrus gear, not to mention randoms are terrible at not dying >.>
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Ultramarine on March 24, 2011, 04:49:44 pm
Guess they wanted to give everyone a fair chance at taking him on... though that sounds like a great recipe for rage quits (which I've seen plenty of each time this sandstorm shows up..

I usually go Los, simply because of my critical eye+ 3 and fencing (really comes in handy). Haven't given Lagi a try though, speaking of which I need to make the high rank version of that.

Quote
not to mention randoms are terrible at not dying >.>

Depends on where you go and who you're with, I usually have a few trust worthy buds and at least one random guy take it on. Provided they've actually fought one before. Failures with Jhen and Jhen+ have been rare these days, I can only relate to a degree. Had the same guy die twice during the HIGH high rank "Double Trouble" mission, and almost died myself since the other two were screwing around with their eggs and no providing back up. I mean sure I can solo los+ easily but with BOTH him and his bitchy girlfriend tag teaming it was proving difficult to gain the upper hand.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Gauphastus on March 24, 2011, 04:58:59 pm
Yeah, we tried the fight a couple times. I tried later on with a couple other crews, some of whom were happy to help me learn the procedure of that particular battle.
There were no successes however. We all simply absorbed too much damage, though I rarely was the one dying. The expert guy died a lot due to ramming, and then we'd have some other dingus who wasn't given instructions getting nailed by bombs.

And uh, am I the only one who brings with me a stack of potions and mega potions? It feels like everybody is all grabby for the first aid meds in certain quests, and if the fight doesn't go so well, you can really tell they've run out of healing items.
Pretty silly, but I still have very little complaint about the online besides the lag. Very few disconnects for me, but still some for others.

Well.. I guess if I did have to make a complaint about the online is that their community system (friends and stuff) is years behind the times.
Oh well. I still have my fun. Met a few cool dudes already that are in my friend roster.. none of whom I've managed to snag to play with a second time. Meh.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Kaizer on March 24, 2011, 05:13:51 pm
the first aids are a cheap and easy heal thats not going to set you back a few cash but you should be bringing all your own supplies since when you get to high rank you don't receive anymore items until after a set time of the quest has gone by

My only 2 complaints are that when bad people take the shock traps for capture quests and do them at the wrong time and you just happen to have forgotten yours and all the people that knock you over with moves they shouldn't really use (like the rising cut on switch axe and great sword)

I only disconnected once and that's because my connection was pretty bad at the time

you should consider getting a lagiacrus set ultramarine, I don't know how I ever did water fights without olympic swimmer or having my elemental heavy weapons get insane boosts from the ele attack up. The Los and Lagi sets also compliment nicely if your doing land fights or water fights, I usually swap them around (So tempting to do a 5 minute rathian with lagi armor but getting 2 shotted from fireballs isn't fun)
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Gauphastus on March 24, 2011, 05:18:46 pm
I've been building up to the lagiacrus set myself. Looks pretty cool. I've been using the jaggi set this entire time, not even fully upgraded.
Probably should handle that since I can't really take rathalos very well.. or barioth.
Oh my god that god damned barioth moves so freaking fast aaaaghsghls
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Kaizer on March 24, 2011, 07:33:59 pm
barioth isnt that hard, just got to be quick on snapping his claws then he comically slides around and lets you beat his face in

lagiacrus armor+wyvern blade fire helps a ton too
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Tri
Post by: Celdur on March 24, 2011, 09:23:18 pm
barioth has trouble hitting you if you stay really close to him actualy, somewhere behind his arms is best
also, every time after an attack he repostitions himself either once or twice, cant remember. but following that patern is a nice way to like, time your attacks

just prepare with some nice stamina items so it doesnt run out as fast and you should be fine

oh and use some traps and bomb his face to cut the battle in half

Oh my god, THIS. Yes. Thank you. For the most part though I always bring a pit fall and shock just in case, because there's always some idiot who gets killed twice and I have to resort to a capture. During capture quests though, we usually rape the monster enough to use the trap and tranqs then and there.. depends on the team though. When I'm helping noobs I usually dumb down my weapons so they just don't leech from me and not learn a damn thing out of the experience. Granted, the upswings have been rare; I tend to keep my distance. And when I use the upswing I do my best to keep out of the way of other hunters but still attacking a vital part of the monster.. but I never go switch axe unless I really have to (and considering how annoying of a weapon it can be, rarely is an understatement.)

Investing in that set as we speak actually, I LOVE the skills you get from Lagi, and to make it perfect all I need is fire res +10 and something else that stacks well (so far I have just a fire res +10 and clust attk + 3 v.v or something along those lines). For the most part though, aside from Olympic swimmer, I'm mostly looking forward to awaken. I'm still pretty attached to my current set though: Dober Helm, Bna+ Chest, Dober vambraces, Bna+ waist and legs. I had to BS some of my skills in but luckily got my hands on a crit draw + 7 talisman which helped me complete my set; skills consist of: Crit Draw, Marathon Runner, Status Attack up, Razor Sharp, Dragon Resistance +10 and Fishing Expert <--- the last being a fluke since it was part of my talisman. I was hoping for Crit draw and stam +4 but so far I have no such luck :L otherwise I'd gem it out for dragon defense. Despite the -19 to fire it's rather versatile of a set, even for Alatreon. His dragon punch does basically 1/18 damage to my overall health =D

But yeah, it all depends on your stats and evasion skills, because I've managed to take out a thian + solo with that set and a GS and took barely any damage till the jho decided to troll.

Very true, but Barioth is EXTREMELY temperamental so that strategy won't always work. He's basically the Nargacuga on steroids when it comes to speed. On the brightside though, his fits of rage don't last long and the fact that he has to quarter turn each time to attempt an attack makes dodging him a easy if timed correctly. Oh and I also advocate the use of bombs, you can never have enough when it comes to Bari.
