As confirmed by Kotaku, EA has landed a deal on the Spore movie with 20th Century Fox and the director of "Ice Age." Lucy Bradshaw will co-produce the film. This is just a confirmation of a picture deal and it may or may not mean the movie will actually make it to official production, seeing as EA has other IPs getting the games-to-film treatment in queue.
Buuuuuuuuuuuut...
Assuming we'll be getting a Spore film, I already sent a inquiry to one of Spore's head designers. But if there is more interest from them, we might as well ask ourselves. What user-created Gaming Steve creature deserves a stand-in role in the movie? It'd be nice to have some forum representation. But I wouldn't just lobby any of my own creatures. (as much as I'd like to) I think Hydro's Naucean, LadyM's Mallen, and Oviraptor's Vvukkrauur deserve our prime consideration, especially since Maxis was so kind to recreate (http://www.gamingsteve.com/archives/2008/04/gaming-steve-members-featured-in-latest-spore-update.php) them before the Creature Editor was released.
Now I'm only thinking they could give us a stand-in role for our creatures. Understandably, they are writing the story, they will make the characters suited for the leading roles. So a 15-second glimpse is all we ask.
I think LadyM and Hydro could give their thoughts, since they have been in contact with Maxis in the flesh before.

A Spore movie. I think I'm going to pee myself...
I'm not sure if it's from fear or from happiness.
It has a lot of potential, but then, so did Spore. I just hope they don't over-hype it, like they did with Spore.
-
Seeing the kind of charm and humor Maxis puts into their games, I can see this as being a family film. They've been that way for ages, I don't know why everyone is so clueless to it.
Everyone should come to expect the same. If you carefully examine how Maxis adventures play out in Galactic Adventures, you can expect the same with this movie. It will be a charming film and nothing too dark or serious.
-
If there are fan-made creature cameo's then the Naucean is a given. It was the first. It is the greatest.
Granted, I would be able to die happy with even a second long glimpse of my Kratair somewhere in a distant crowd shot, but there are for more deserving. Like the Somberon for one (I'll say it if Gec won't).
Of course, this is all still in the realm of distant possibilities, and history should have taught us that no good comes from overhyping something that's half a decade away.
Well, some good, but not enough. Not enough.

A spore movie? A SPORE MOVIE!? How the heck are they going to pull that off!?
-
As long as we are dealing with hypotheticals, I'm going to represent my old stomping grounds of Sporesite.com (R.I.P.) and suggest Petreak's Mentripod. He's a member on this site too even though he hasn't posted in ages, and was included with Hydro, LadyM, and Ovi. (Seeing as I was Third in Command at sporesite, I'd nominate my Gocket as an alternate.)
As for creatures from GS, I would suggest the Sombrerons, Torpals, and Wexxians.
-
I would rather they just worked on a new expansion, but a Spore movie might also be enjoyable.
Oh and yes, I'm back ;)
-
The only real cameos to be made will be the micro-celebrities from the spore groups, which is a shame. Some lesser-known species/creations, combined with their descriptions, would make great additions. The trouble is, without that micro-celebritism, nobody is going to know of them, nor get their references.
-

As much as I'd like them to be confirmed as part of the cast, it really pains me to say that inserting the Wexxians into the film will be kinda out of place, since there are no mechanical creatures in the game itself, except for the Grox. :(
Sure, they can make them look mechanical, but in reality, they'll still be just biologicals wearing robot-looking costumes. :-\
Though, "honorary" Wexxians would most probably be able to fit into the movie. Then again, the only reason there are honorary Wexxians is because of the mechanical Wexxians. :(
-
A wexxian wouldn't be a stretch at all if you ask me. If those of you who have Galactic Adventures will remember, the very first adventure has you being ordered around by a robot.
-
I can't see any way a move centered around spore would work. The only thing not user-made is the Grox! Other then that, it would really be "spore", just a weird "science fiction" show.

Epic Awesome!

Epic Awesome!
Dude, seriously, it's starting to equate to spam...
Anyways, all I can say is that this will no doubt be without story, or at least a compelling story.

NO, IT IS NOT SPAM. HE IS THE EPIC MASTER. DO NOT QUESTION HIM. EVER.
-
But I can.
Don't be stupid.
Anyways, I think Maxis has an idea what sort of story they can make. If they can make a story for Spore Hero, then they can do the same for a movie.
-
I just hope the movie is good enough to make up for not getting an expansion... :P
-
If there is a single Elbeast reference, I will say "Yay!"
I will also take over the world, because it will be evidence that I am lucid-dreaming.
-
In a restaurant scene, probably! ;)

Then I guess that means they'll also be capable of flight. :D And don't get me started about their power source! XD
Man, I love those guys. :)
-
Oviraptor's Vvukkrauur(very original), Operaghost's Torpal(violence yeahs), and Hydro's Naucean(for sure, also because I want to see a Naucean evil scientist in the movie).>_>
I would have voted for LadyM's Mallen, but Torpals are so cool. D:
Also, this guy makes an excellent point.
So.... the big question is, how can you go about making a 120 minute movie about a single cell organism that evolves into a space-traveling penis monster?
-
Interesting ...

*Gasp!* TTT? Is that you?

How could you possibly know about Helloworld?
It's like me knowing what Malt was like. :-\

What ever happen to Malt (http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?action=profile;u=1833)? Or Leng (http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?action=profile;u=440)?
-
I'm not sure, I wasn't there.
Besides, maaaaaajor blast from the past. Ironic since some members consider me a newbie :P

Both of them have been sent on their way. I'm pretty sure you know what that means.
Same goes with HW/TTT.

Back on topic please.
I haven't heard anything yet official but I would think they must already have a script idea to show the studio to get the go ahead. I could let them know of the interest in including some GS creatures, not that it would help but if we really pushed a campaign about it, they do listen to us. We already know that. The forum hasn't been very active in Spore lately so we might not be noticed as much as before.

Yeah, but remember the NASA thing? They did that with virtually no forum knowledge. They could even be watching us now... ::)
-
What does that have to do with anything?

She was talking about how the Maddists watch us, and I rehashed an event they didi with out us even knowing about it. They are quite stealthy.
-
How do you know about that event? You've only been here since July. That was well over a year ago.

It was on all the sites, remember, I was a spore fan long before i was a Gser.
-
Right, I got your number.
-
The hype cant possible be any bigger for that spore movie than the game.
I am not sure how they would do that movie.
Cartoon? Reality?
I just see A LOT of problems that needs to be fixed if a movie should have a sales point.
But PIXAR are the ones that can pull that one off.
-
It's being done by the Ice Age director, so it will obviously be a CG animated movie.
Maybe they'll base it off the Spore Hero games. About the blue and red meteor and their origin.
-
I would prefer it to be based on the original, but then again, that wouldn't leave much of a plot...
-
I wouldnt be suprised if it borrows from each. Some about the Blue vs Red meteor maybe some Grox involvement stuff.
-
Since it's from the Director of Ice age, I can safely say that I am interested :) I loved Ice Age!

It was The Hangover before The Hangover!
-
Nobody is sceptical about this?
Video Game Movies Suck (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VideoGameMoviesSuck) for a reason.
I'd be more optimistic, not a whole lot more, about one of the more plot heavy games picked up, like Dead Space and Mass Effect.
-
Remember when Street Fighter was turned into a movie?
Yeah, I'm not optimistic about this either. Plot is way too simple for a movie, and it'll be hard for them to make a script.
Mayve it could be one of those animated shorts that play before the beginning of movies.
-
You know what came across my mind when I read your post about plots? This did. (http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?topic=2977.0) It would be epic, but probably not going to happen. :/
Or you know maybe they will try something like GA adventure.
-
Best movie based on game would without doubt be Mass Effect. That universe with story is just breath taking.
Imagine a race that "plants" life and then returns long time later and harvests them, erasing any knowledge about them , then the circle continues again and again. It is so cruel that it is cool.
-
You know, I actually have faith that this has the potential to be good. Since there is no plot in Spore really, there's nothing to screw up. They're starting from scratch. They can just make an awesome story in the context of the Spore universe.

Uh... Its been years, but the movie isnt out! Where is my movie?!?! Did they cancel? They must have.... Or are using such old graphics for it that they are STILL working on it.... Probably the 1st one.
