Title: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on June 23, 2009, 06:44:42 pm
Just got it in the mail today and I'm enjoying it alot

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Hunter_Portable_2nd_G

anybody else have or planning to get?

I definitely enjoy the fact it's not ridiculously easy like most rpg type games I play

Sadly i do not own a PSP, But Monster hunter for the PS2 is my all time favorite game.

Theirs nothing quite like the monster hunter games.

What exactly is this? Is it the same as 2 with extra stuff or is this just the extra stuff in a standalone game? I got a PSP but sadly no games because I dont know what to get 2 or freedom unite.

freedom unite is like 2 but with more extras if your going to pick get unite

This game is extremely difficult. Addicting as well. It took me like 10 tries for the very first one star difficulty.

I took a break playing when I reached the old ladies mission to kill the wyrm that shoots lightning, I kept getting him to go berserk but my great sword kept bouncing off of it every time  :-\

When I play again I'm gunna hafta go resource hunting to power up  my armor and weapons...or swap to a gun, the great sword is so annoyingly hard to use but when you land that big hit you just swell up with the feeling "gotcha bitch"

Sucks I don't got a PS3 I'd go play online and get geared really fast.

If you cant kill a boss use this http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/943356/53725

Easiest thing I found to do is just farm the big pink monkey since some good armor is made out of his hide

That monkey makes me his bitch.

*heads up

Wait a tick I have a ps3. Whats this you speak of boy?

I've heard you can hook up your psp to it and play online, allbeit from what i've heard the american release of it isn't till october but if it's that important you can do it through the japanese way and go find a clan to play with thru the forums. as for me i'm looking into another method involving a removable wifi usb and a program designed for your router (to download) so you can link your psp to the internet and play monster hunter online.

think it was called xfirekai or something

and the congalala is easy wait till you meet khezu....only tip i can give for him is know what your doing and ambush him when he flies to area 1...other than that prepare to die in frustration....alot..especially since you cant spam flash bombs on him cuz of the having no eyes bullcrap

I think I should upgrade weapons. I want to make the Iron Katana but i'm having trouble finding malachite.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on July 10, 2009, 11:20:49 pm
Are you upgrading the pokke farm and using it every time before you go out on a hunt?

I get malachite from that and the mining spot in the jungle,
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Hammerman58 on July 10, 2009, 11:23:32 pm
I am the mine upgrade isn't available yet. Also I have not done much in the jungle. I should do gathering quests so I don't have to worry about killing things. To farm more. I farmed the hell out of snowy mts.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on July 10, 2009, 11:31:20 pm
things I found useful in the jungle

1. (not sure) theres a mining spot right below that jump spot that will take you back down from the open cave area (where yian kut ku was)
2. Hermitaurs (crabs) are easy to kill and materials are delicious
3. plenty of bugs and carpenter bugs are usefull for alot of builds
4. if your going to gather at the jungle take the vines in starter area up and talk to the cat he will give out free items
5. do it during daytime so the island area is open
6. watch out for: velocidromes (big ass raptor) and vespoids (those bugs)

best way to get stronger is to build new gear by gathering, hell my great sword can 3 shot bulldromes if I full charge it

other than that read a FAQ since the stuff you think is hard now is actually just wetting your feet...hell even khezu is a "weak" monster and I cant kill it
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Hammerman58 on July 10, 2009, 11:33:15 pm
I don't care for the great sword. I prefer dual swords or long swords.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on July 10, 2009, 11:38:25 pm
From my experience early in the long sword is good but it wont get much stronger once you reach 4 star elder missions

everybody says bows/hammers/greatswords

Bows are great because pierce shot hits multiple times as it goes through the target
hammers can cause KO status effect on each hit
great swords have the highest end game damage (which is great for when you need to chop off limbs of dragons)

really it's a personal choice....unless you use the hunter horn then your just silly
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Hammerman58 on July 10, 2009, 11:43:22 pm
Im just not used to the combat. I find it hard to be able to charge a shot to mack a monster.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on July 10, 2009, 11:47:51 pm
thats what traps and flash bombs are used for  8)

when I bagged my first giant monkey I used a shock trap to throw out my first full charge shot then i ran around till he did that move where he falls over ran behind and cut off his tail then continued doing that till i broke off his crest on his head till he enraged then I popped a flash bang and laid down another shock trap and finished him with a full charge

flash bang exploiting is the greatest thing ever...until you fight monsters that have no eyes to flash...

I must be a terrible aim. I tried using one of the guns. Shot him 30 times with the fire rounds and did not go down. I got him to enrage though.

It was the heavy.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

Aw man..as i said before Monster hunter on the PS2 was my favorite game of all time.

Nothing has been close to taking it spot. Anyhoo..i never get handhelds..but my job is a job where i travel almost constantly so me and my GF both picked up PSPs and Monster hunter Unite so we can play together wherever we go.

Man ..i love this game...

Anyway i am somewhat a vet since i played the original i can offer some advice.

If you are having that much trouble with Khezu then you are going to have to take some time and prepare. Try to get an armor set that is resistant to electric and make some pitfall traps and barrel bombs. Flash bombs wont work because Khezu is blind. If you are playing the offline mode make sure you have a fairly high level cat comrade who is a pure bomber.

Until you are skilled you should dodge a monster in rage mode until it calms back down then attack it again. I don't remember for sure but i believe Kezhu is weak to fire. So a fire weapon would help a lot.

Post by: Hammerman58 on July 15, 2009, 12:51:13 am
I tried Khezu 4 times almost beat him 3 of those tries. The problem is I know I can trap him. It is just I mess that part up. It is asleep and I put the trap but then for some reason it never goes into it.....

This game sounds like a lot of fun...

Plus how much are PSP's anyway?
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

I will admit the game is hit or miss, Some people will love it some will hate it. In Japan this game is what Grand theft auto is to the US.

This is a very slow game, You will spend a lot of time collecting parts to make armor weapons and traps. And you will have to battle the same monsters over again to get some parts. The thing is though this ain't a MMO. If you kill a monster once that does not mean you can do it again, The next time you will still have a challenge.

There are no levels in this game, Your power is based solely on the weapons and armor you make, If you get up high and have bad ass armor and decide you want to try some new lower level armor and weapons vs a lower powered monster, You can do that.

Also the main thing that turns off the western audience is this game is hard, This game will beat you in to a wall and kick you in the balls while your up against said wall. But that's all part of the fun!.

Its a fantastic game, Its my favorite for a reason. I just wish the rest of the west would stop treating its difficulty as a game flaw.

What level of quests are you on? I'm about ready to go on to the third level quests.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on July 16, 2009, 08:07:45 pm
in the third level you fight daiymo and plesioth and you also unlock 2 new zones

I got lucky when fighting daiymo since he is a walking tank, luckily my greatsword stagger spam worked and I beat him with 1 potion left...Would of had more if my god damn feline would stop throwing bombs at me >.<

Wow, this thing ACTUALLY sounds like a challenge.  Seems more like an action title than an RPG though...  Kinda like KH I guess.  I'm still not even sure why they tried adding stat building to that game...

Fun fact- bosses in the KH games will automatically level you after defeat without changing your experience total.  Also, the bonus gained from scripted levels is different from those gained naturally.  Due to the level cap, tis means that a maxed out sora at the end of the game will have different stats with a sora you grinded by earning TP against riku back on Destiny Islands.  Of course, to me this ACTUALLY makes sense, similar to the EV training in the more recent Pokemon titles.

Can you tell that I just inhaled about 30 giant pixie stix and it's 4:40 AM?  WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

COOCOO FOR COCOA PUFFS!

I don't know I might switch from my Katana to go to hammers. I tried one out at the training school. SOOOOOOO.....much fun. I annihilated the Kut Yu or Yu Yu kut or w/e. I also managed to make it my first trapped monster. It was a 2nd star elder quest.

I was thinking about making a hammer since I could make the powerful crystal hammer which I think is rare-3 (havent checked) i've been dumping all my materials into my bow and armor for it (pokke point farming is boring  :-\)

when you do beat khezu if you cant beat daiymo i'll try to show my strategy i used to beat him

In order for a piece of armor top show up in the creation list i believe you ether must have half the materials needed to create it. Maybe more.

But for the record every single piece of armor has a full set.

Is it on the lines of having so many guild points to unlock the stuff?
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on July 23, 2009, 05:37:38 pm
I don't understand how the unlocking system works because I got 1 blue kut ku piece and it unlocked all the pieces that I surmise use it

well anyways I went into the guild hall because I was tired of farming Kut Ku (gotta learn how to break its damn ears >.<) and noticed one of the ladies had an exclamation mark, turns out I have a lv 2 star quest to hunter a rathalos and a rathian. I decided to try it since after all my farming I had access to a ravager (greatsword) a crystal hammer (really powerful upgrades into a rare-4) and my iron katana "gospel" So I figured what the hell I got a chance...wrong. Rathalos was ridiculously hard I could barely land a hit before getting smashes in the face by his tail or a fire ball. Rathian didnt go well either 3 seconds into the fight he bitch slapped me with a back flip he did mid-air and poisoned me which lowered me to less than half my life, then he did it again and I died of poison. This game is already frustratingly hard, I'm dreading the later game  :D

oh also is blangonga weak to fire?

In the first game Rathalos is the first major monster you face, He is still a badass in this game too.

Rathian is the female version and shes quite a bit easier. You will want to have pretty decent armor before facing ether one and traps and supplies are a must.

Blangonga is weak to fire btw.

Heeeeey guise. Got this for my birthday a while ago, sometimes play with a friend who has it too, right now Lvl 3 Solo quest Lvl 4 Group. I'd probably be Lvl 4 both but I hate the Blagonga.

... A full bomb cat is a horrible idea for a melee-er. I think Gormans trying to trip you up >_>

I'd say you probably want a full melee, or favors melee if you can't find full, and make him get as much defense as he can, so he can cover you a bit for heal and sharpening breaks.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on August 12, 2009, 07:10:47 am
yea, a bomb cat for a melee will just screw you up, especially if your trying to combo with a greatsword, I gave my cat poison atk, poison flute, and flute so he could just cure me of poison and hit the boss with it and keep the smallers away from me.

in other news I picked the game back up after many frustrating deaths to plesioth and BAM managed to beat it and blangonga, got new powerful weapons and armor and I've been one shotting every monster in my way, only one that I cant beat is monoblos, I'm just farming Yian Kut Ku though I wanna make the Chicken Cutter sword  8)

If you're still having trouble with those two the Hermitaur armor is really easy to get and good with the defense. But I use a gunlance so it might be a bigger help.
I haven't actually bought any cat skills so I can save up for the secret stuff, which is rather silly. Like about everything I do in this game, like try making the Makluva set.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Kaizer on August 13, 2009, 10:04:30 am
I beat the monoblos with no potions left and all my bombs and traps used up. also got my raven cutter which I'm working on upgrading to a rare-7 greatsword which has blue sharpness  :D

only problem now is tigrex, my greatsword makes me too slow to hit him before he combos my face off, I was told to drug him with meat to make him sleepy but he seems more interested in me >.>

Generally full bomb cats are useful for wyvern fights whether or not your melee. If your melee you shoudl rarely get hit by bombs because you will rarely be near a wyvern for long. Generally you take a few hits and dodge or block right?

No?, Then your getting selfish with hits and that's why you keep dying.

Just keep an eye on your surroundings and you will know if your kitty partner is about to launch a bomb. Bombs do a lot for damage and can knock over wyverns.

I have 3 types of cats, Pure melee for hunting small monsters, *mind you DROMES are smaller imo. Pure bomb for big monsters and a non attacking cat with support ability to fill the in between.

For example a Bomb cat would rarely land a hit on Tigrex, A melee one will get plowed over and die, So a support kitty to get his attention and heal you works good.

The way I fight with me greatsword is to rush in and get under their legs and start using side slash into an uppercut because it combos continuously only problem is i cant get under tigrex and i cant exactly run away from him when i try to sheathe and run

Yes, neither of our classes has much in the running department. What weapon do you use Gorm?
Title: Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Post by: Gorman Conall on August 14, 2009, 07:57:45 pm
Mostly a Gunlance but for tigrex i used a Great sword.

When using a great sword you can actually roll off to the side right after a swing, Tigrexs weakest point is his head.

So i hit him and roll out of the way, If i think i am not going to move fast enough i block it and try again.

Sonic bombs are your best friend against Monoblos, When he dives under if you throw a sonic bomb right away he will pop and become trapped in the ground as if you pitfall trapped him. It only works when he is not in rage mode however.

If you are going to make Monoblos armor you have to be sure to break off his horn during your battles with him, That's how you get blood red horn.

Feeling pretty good, I've beaten down almost everything elder 5 star can throw at me (well except for kirin/chameleos/lunastra) and I'm working on the urgent quest now. I have to say my strategies have changed a lot since I started, at first my strategy was crush everything with brute force, now I find myself exploiting traps/unhittable zones/weaknesses on everything I come up against, A week ago I could barely stand up against a lone rathalos now I am slaughtering both rathalos and rathian at the same time using only a few demon/armor drugs and a few flash bombs and pit falls.

I'm coming for you next Akantor  :D
