Title: Animation
Post by: gec05 on October 30, 2008, 04:01:34 pm
Post your animations here. Whether it be cartoons, claymation, stop motion, giffs, you name it. All skill levels are welcome.

Here is my lasted project. A Yoshi strut loop.

Just need to do the arms and then post-animate the outlines and color.

I have some others where he's actually doing something but I'd have to convert them.

I've been hobby-animating for some time now, let me just puke out a part of what i have made:

@above: In primary and middle school, I was constantly drawing in my books, sometimes i drew a ship, the ship would explode, drawing by drawing, and I have finally found a use for my constant animation-ish behaviour when i was a kid, seems it wasn't a complete waste of time after all.

@above: simple running man being shot in the head.

@above: I was listening to a video recently, and meanwhile i made this, was thinking of adding sounds and voices to it, to make the flicker make sense, but for now, imagine the guy with the club challenging the guy on the wall to fight him, the guy standing on the wall doesn't want to, so the guy with the club taunts him, wall guy gets slightly sad because he has to fight, but is surprisingly beaten by the guy with the club. Also, the characters seem to be moving upwards, i guess i was too distracted by the video in the background to notice, oh well, not being professional.
What a twist.

You mean published Flash files? Putfile (http://www.putfile.com/) is a good place to host swf's. Try it out.

I don't see how keeping the same picture at the same spot is going to help when what you draw look like excrement.

But I guess you know what you're talking about.

What I think he means is onion skinning so he can see other frames before and after the selected frame.

Flash has a button called onion skin. It's right under the timeline. You can also use the < > on your keyboard to move between frames.

Summoner, instead of drawing each frame by hand, you can try keyframe animation using objects. It will look different but doesn't need quite the steady hand.

Is 3D animation OK? It's actually just a static model so the only thing that moves is the camera, but still:

Someone help me animate this image? I'd like it to flash similarly to Legendary Dwarves in Dwarf Fortress. I'd like the Animated image to maintain the transparency and for it to Blink at a constant rate like the example.

Blink would be similar to the top left image here (http://dwarffortresswiki.net/images/7/74/Icons.gif). Everything would blink on the above image. Face, Beard, Legs.

On this computer it's actually going pretty fast...

Title: Re: Animation
Post by: Yuu on March 15, 2010, 10:25:43 pm
There seems to be some missing pixels inside the hood.

But other than that and the somewhat slow framerate, it's not really that bad, especially in a lower resolution.
Title: Re: Animation
Post by: Guilmon on March 16, 2010, 06:32:57 pm
It's been edited. It now goes about as fast as it can go without looking rushed ((Well, at least in Photoshop)) and the hood's pixels have been changed.

Also, he goes through another round of eye shifting. :P

I don't know...The Internet slows it down quite a bit... I can't get it to go any faster, considering it has no delay between most of the frames.
Title: Re: Animation
Post by: dndfreak on March 17, 2010, 05:32:52 am
Use the option to change the framerate.  I'd be more specific, but as far as Adobe stuff goes I use flash for all of my art.

I made some of these for a series I've been working on. For Ouch, not my best work, but I didn't have all mah tools. I sah, PAINT ON SEVEN SUCKS. I make these frame by frame using paint and Windows Movie Maker, as well as my laptops' microphones. My one with Seven on it has a great microphone, but paint sucks, and so does my Windows Seven port of Movie Maker. So yeah....ah, not my best work!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIVVhs4IW2U
Yeah, as you can tell,
A) A Message From Randomisity was recorded with my laptop w/ the bad mic. It'd sound alot better if I had my other laptop.
B) They get better the more recent they're made. I'm getting some experience.
C) My british accent. It's epicly a load of crap. It sucks.
Title: Re: Animation
Post by: Yuu on May 30, 2010, 07:50:23 pm
Video 2 is the best, in my opinion, though it can use some touching up with regard to the stickman's facial expression.

Also, the sound is too blurry in the last one, so I wasn't really able to understand much of it, though it does seem like you were commenting on an upcoming trailer for Randomosity.

All in all, I have to say that you're getting somewhere. Just keep polishing those frames, and the British Accent, and try and use a peripheral mic for the next ones if you can.

If you're having trouble with British accents, listen to monologues of villains that use them. And you can also try using it as much as you can throughout the day or week.

Okay, this will need a bit of explanation on my end...

Basically, I'm coming up with a new character... We call him "Squicky" for now as a mixture of "squeamish" and "ick"... Because that describes what he does perfectly.

... He's a parasite... *Cough Cough Alex Mercer* And he ... *ahem* eats things through a mass of muscles, organs, blood, and stuff like that. But, basically, a predatory reaction is triggered whenever something moves quickly, be it a rat, over expressive hands, or waving a corn dog.... And as soon as he follows it through, mass consumption of said moving object.

T.V.'s kinda out of the question for him...

And, believe me, I would love to ramble on about him, but this is not the time and place...

But, I really want to say this about Squicky. He's so "polite" because... Think about it. People like polite people. People hang around polite people. It's a feeding strategy...

Now, enjoy the waving corn dog as he tries to resit eating my hands off.

Thanks for clearing that out. :)

I gather you blurred the wavey parts to make it look more, er, blurry?

Yes, because it wasn't moving fast enough, so a sense of motion helps.

Nice animation! :D I love sprite art like that.

This... I don't know where it came from.

Basically, me and DG were talking, and we were on the topic of my new Character; Niles Brooks ((also known as Mr. Clean and Douglas from previous hosts :P )) You guys might know him as "Squicky" from the Corndog comic. ((Look up. ^))

Well, anyway, we were talking about how the parasite needs matter to heal itself, so essentially, Niles' foot get's chopped off, chop off another foot, attach with tentacles, and in an hour you have a new and fully functioning Niles foot. Sure, he could just regenerate one with separate matter, like a good meal, but that would take too long. So, why not become Frankenstine?

Now, we were saying "Imagine how weird it would be if he had to fill out a biography or job application."

And I joked "I think the only thing he'd worry about would be his eye color, even considering it almost never changes."

THEN THIS HAPPENED. >___>;

Like the rest of him is never changing.

Also, it brings up the thought that whenever he sees an eye color that appeals to him, he could store the iris inside his head. ._________. Or just contact lenses stored in there.

It does for me.  Perhaps you just think it should be faster than it actually is.

I think you can enhance the effect by making the guitar vibrate. The swooshy lines are a nice touch, but the static nature of the action still stands as dull.

Try fixing it. You already have two frames running, why not give the guitar a slight adjustment on the second instance.

This is mine though.

Was to be the opening credits of that Spore Cartoon Project we discussed a while back. It is still mostly a concept animation and is obviously unfinished. But the premise feels quite epic, despite only being about 1-2 minutes long before stopping.

How do you get a photoshop class?

Either in high school (in a computer graphics class or elective), or in College, (be it CSU, UC, or a community college like Sierra College).

Well, I am studying game design. And since photoshop is pretty much standard everywhere we are getting class for photoshop. As well as Maya and 3ds Max.

Thirty something frames.
My respect for animators has increased by several large increments, this is not something I could see myself doing day in day out.
Still, it is extremely pleasant to see something move after a few minutes of just drawing what I expect to turn out like a turd on fire.

And it's just thirty frames, and it's not even coloured.

Of course the real pros do it differently (easier)than I did, redrawing frame by frame.

I made an anime.
No idea how to make a GIF out of this thing so here's some weird upload site.
I'd have used imageshack but it wants to take six-hundred years to turn it into an MP4.

EDIT: God damn, that site is such a pile of garbage.
Just go here.
