Title: Galactic Civilizations 3?
Post by: AuraBoyX on September 27, 2008, 11:05:20 am
I know it's a wacky theory (and would probably never happen)... But how do you think a Galactic Civilization 3 would work with Spore technology? I mean the core game would have to be designed from scratch but the pollination/procedural technology seems to me to be a PERFECT fit for the GalCiv 'franchise'. I heard that other companies are looking into using the Maxis technology for their own uses... This combo seems a no brainer to me as you would be able to design your own races, ships (much easier than the current GalCiv2 ship designer), buildings and even wonders. Of course it would have to be tweaked and customized to Stardock's needs. Imagine if you could use the spore tech now with the current GalCiv2... SIGH I can only dream...

Me, want, now

Lol, great idea, space stage with way more depth, I would love to see it in action.

I mean theoretically Maxis could DO it's own GalCiv type game as an expansion for the space stage... But Stardock does it so well... Flawlessly actually. This could even be applied to Master of Orion or even STAR CONTROL! God I love that series...

Isn't this the wrong forum for such discussion. I mean after all there is a general Games forum.

I know, but there isn't a general gaming forum. There's Portable, PC, Console and Forum games sections.

Well what you do is you find the platform for what the game is for and you post it there...

Oh come on... You have got to be kidding me... Is there always something wrong with anything anyone posts on these forums? MY original post WAS Spore related.

It wouldn't surprise me if Stardock couldn't afford to license part of the Spore engine.  Stardock makes good stuff, but they are a tiny, tiny operation compared to Maxis or some other companies.

I've been a member of these boards for well over two years and browsed the forums prior to 2006 without posting/registering. I've been around, I just don't post much.

It would work, given that Spore doesn't use a lot of numbers, and Stardock's devs tend to balance their 4X games "by feel".

(I'm still bitter about how long it took for them to make it so that unused Social went into Military...)

I don't think Stardock will ever have anything to do with EA. It would be like asking the Grox to convert to Spode.

Leave the Spore area, and we'll talk.

What does this mean? Me?

If you do mean me... Might I add that my original post was completely centered on Spore technology and is completely appropriate to talk about here in 'this Spore area.' Are we not allowed to reference other games? Is this against the the strict spore message board code of the 'elders?' I mean seriously it's not like I was posting something about Grand Theft Auto. You guys have taken what could be an interesting conversation about Spore technology used with other (similar) space type games and morphed it into some little b i t &* %-fest. Lighten up.

Thanks everyone else for defending me. You are all sane.

"Games, Games, and More Games" <- Forum for general games. Some would call it a category or a group, I call it a forum. Just because you can't post or access it directly doesn't matter to me. It's still a forum.

You would than post this (as it concerns a SEQUEL to a non-Maxis title) in the proper sub-forum, PC Games, Console Games, or Portable Games. In this case it's talking about a sequel to a PC Game, so it would go under "PC Games". The topic concerns use of SPORE technology in a game made by a different developer. It has nothing to do with Spore, ideas for Spore, problems with Spore, nor the betterment of Spore or it's franchise. This topic does not belong here. Period. THE END.

I wasn't being mean or disruptive. I was trying to be nice with the way I originally worded my post. I was gently prodding you to think that maybe, this doesn't belong here. It didn't work so I'm trying the direct approach. This doesn't belong here.

I disagree. This would be just the place to talk about it. THIS would be the place people (who might be interested in spore and the possibilities of its tech) would see the post and respond to it. I could see if I was just rambling about some random game or even just GalCiv3 in general... But Spore technology IS spore and yes... Discussions like it DO belong here.

Well Stardocks new turn based fantasy Strategy game includes being able to make your own units and includes a fairly advanced 3D engine of their own making. They will be giving more info about it soon apparently.

Am I the only person who actually understood that this comment was not meant to be taken seriously?

You know, given how obviously not-serious it is?

...

I am? Oh, okay. Just checking.

In response to the move, please continue the discussion. Please don't take offense to this AuraBoy, we just feel that the topic can have a little more freedom if it was here.

Chances are they'll never find this topic now that it has left the Spore forum.

Still, if you think about it Gal Civ has pretty much had the basis of the Spore editors for years. Granted they're nowhere near as dynamic but the general idea is still there.

The idea has merit. The problem is I think Star Dock with be more apt to make the game similar rather then use the engine. They already have a damned good system on hand.

So I have been thinking of working on my GalCiv3 Civ after the big expansion that came out a while ago. My Cyber Ghost Space Pirates. I still need a better name for them to be honest. But I do have the backstory and all the mechanics for them work out at least. Need to work on getting art assets to for them. If anyone is willing to help then please contact me. If we upload it on the workshop you will of course get shared credit. ;)

A short synopsis of backstory. (WIP)

The Cyber Ghost Space Pirates started out as any other group of pirates. Looking for plunder in the great cosmos, praying off merchants brave enough to try to cross the deep void of space in the name of profit. Captain Rylian and her crew had fallen on hard times. But after hanging around in too many bars trying to drown their sorrows they got a tip. Some ancient pre-cursor ship was rumored to be lost within the Ve'ska belt. A dangerous place to be sure. At first Captain Rylian though that it was not a job for them as there pirates, not scavengers. But, on the other hand, a good old treasure hunt could not hurt. And if the rumors were true about this ship then she and her crew could become the most feared crew of pirates in the whole sector! The ship is rumored to have weapons far beyond anything any merchant might afford as escort detail, or even anything that the military could muster.

Captain Rylian decide to set out on her treasure hunt and after a long exhaustive search Ve'ska belt pirates found it! An old sleeping titan from an era long gone. Remarkably intact despite her old age. The ship gave all of the crew shivers as their comparatively small ship came close to the ancient monster. To their surprise, it was pretty easy to dock with the ship. In they found signs of long gone battles. Desiccated corpses showing preserved in the vacuum of space. Where there old explorers? Or maybe the crew of the ship it self? Some seemed contorted. Others burned to a crisp. Some of the crew wanted to turn back but Rylian pressed them on. She knew there was no turning back now.

(Stay tuned for the next exciting continuation of Cyber Space Ghost Pirate!)
