That is very cool. For a second, I thought you misspelled "frappe."

Edit: It looks like I am the first to add myself!

Edit edit: Crap! I misspelled my saying! There is no way to fix this, is there?

It says my zip code doesn't exist.

It sucks to live in North Dakota.

I'm there. If you guys like the satelite maps I recommend you try the free version of Google Earth. There's a lot of features; especially if you live in the US.

Isnt this a tad unfair to those of us not from the US? i know theres a few people here living in England, A few in Australia, one in New Zealand i think, some people from scandinavia. is there an international version?
Title: Re: Gaming Steve Frappr!
Post by: WoozleWazzle on November 01, 2005, 04:57:25 am
Hey, i'm not in the US either, but Google is. There's no international version, but for a free program it's worth a look.

Yes it does! Anyone in the world can add their location. When you want to sign up there is a link which says "not in the US?" and if you click that you can add your information. Anyone in the world can sign up!

Jeez, that's scary.  I put myself up there anyway... then found where I truely live, the thing had me put a little off... ohwell.  DON't ZOOM IN ON ME!!!   :D

All right, so Google doesn't recognize that North Dakota exists (can't blame 'em), so I used my old ZIP code.

I bet none of you knew where 54701 really is before this (Offer void for Oviraptor).

Post by: 762 on November 01, 2005, 05:12:10 pm
Yeah, mine came up right next to my friend's house (Rustic Pines) and near my old elementary school, about 2 miles away. I didn't know that zip code areas were that small.

Steve, can you force it to recognize that the zipcode 58503 exists in northwestern Bismarck, North Dakota?

No, I can't do that. :'( It is a bit wacky, but damn cool. I just put in a zip code next to me and that seems to work. (and the location it shows for me isn't anywhere near where I really live! But it's still very cool!)
Title: Re: Gaming Steve Frappr!
Post by: Samog on November 02, 2005, 02:10:11 pm
What's weird is that I can just search "58503" on Google, and it'll send me to a map of Bismarck-Mandan that has my street on it.

Heh, I understand. You can put up something general then, like Washington DC or something if you want. If it makes your parents feel any better the map is off by quite a bit, it has me living inside a park!

Actually if you look at the "main" site a lot of people read that as well! So many of the people on the map are probably readers of the main site or people who listen to the podcast.

116 now AND it now shows all the countries markers on the map!!!!  :)

Suggestion.. if your not comfortable using your own zip code, use one near you thats still in your state or country. It's really interesting to see who is from what state or country.

It's up to 250. It is growing really, really fast. Way faster than the forum.
Title: Re: Gaming Steve Frappr!
Post by: Gaming Steve on November 22, 2005, 05:21:30 pm
Something to keep in mind is that this site gets tens of thousands of visitors a month, so the number of people actually in Frappr is still a very small of the overall percentage of the site's total traffic. But it sure is fun to see people adding themselves to the map.

My mistake. I was looking at the shoutouts. I was still under the impression that shoutouts were mandatory, so I didn't think to look on the right of the screen for members.

My bad.

Edit: For the record, this computer has such a crap vid card that I can't exceed 640 x 480, so I have to scroll to the right to read that.

Wow, this "Archalus" is only about 30 miles away from me. That's kind of creepy.

Also, Steve apparently sleeps on a bench.

LOL.
The Zip Code Pointer located it there, so Steve lives around there, but not there specifically.
I am only about 30 miles away from NYC... but the weather here in NY is horrible... Now I know why so many gamers and video game developers live in California.. Although that's not the real reason.  ::)

Well, it's been a while since anyone updated this thread, so there are now 335 people. Still less than half, but I don't expect that to last forever. Although maybe the recent influx of new forum members will slow it a little.
