Title: GamingSteve Wiki
Post by: LadyM on July 10, 2008, 01:56:58 pm
This is the official topic for the unofficial GamingSteve Wiki.

I created a wiki on my website to host the GamingSteve Wiki. You can find it here: GamingSteve Wiki (http://ladympire.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page)
There are no advertisements on this site so it's clean and usable. We can use it for documenting projects and history in an organized fashion. You will have to register on the wiki in order to make articles or edits.

Oviraptor and I have already set up a basic structure but we're open to suggestions to make it look better. We need to keep it looking nice to keep all your personal things in your user page.

So, let the wiki fun begin. If you have any suggestions or problems, let us know. I'm currently having one and I'm trying to find a solution.

Problem:
Large image won't produce a thumbnail

Edit:
You cannot create an account on the wiki, it must be done by myself (http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=64) or Oviraptor (http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=237). If you want an account, please message us your user name and the password you want to use.

Awsome work LadyM. :) :)

Much  history to add to the wiki ;D

I just ask that we keep it relevant. There isn't a need to talk about banned people or their "phrases" like in the other wiki.

LadyM, I was having the same problem.

When I resized and uploading the image again, it still didn't work as a thumbnail.

EDIT: It works now.

Yeah, I'm trying different changes to the settings to see if we can get the thumbnails working. It's being tricky.

Everyone who registrars gets a user page. You can edit your user page with your bio and projects.

I'd like to get the art section set up, I figure we can have a section for portraits, comics and other drawings. Not sure what the right categories would be.

You can edit other people's pages.

Don't bother with vandalism, though. Rollbacks are easy.

It's come to my attention that a user page was made without the person's knowledge, the page contains personal information. That's not only unethical but it goes against the spirit of the Wiki. We don't want personal information made public especially for an underage user.

Please make your own user page and add the information you would like shown. Don't post anything too personal and keep it clean.

Thanks

You might want to oversight the history, or flat-out delete the page. I found all the info to which you were referring in little under a minute (just because I could).

Cool wiki, I hope it works out.

Oh, and shouldn't the Superpower RPs be added to the wiki too? Or at least have a link? :-\

For things like this, and especially this particular example, I'd like to request that if you weren't involved with it (and I mean involved, not posted for two weeks), don't go and write about it because you just don't have enough experience with it. The same thing would go with people writing about forum events that happened before they joined, as that kind of leaves the door open for misinterpretation and bias.

As long as who ever makes it does so as the sort intro part is done in flash with bright yellow text that scolls upwards and off into the distance all the while the classic theme from John Williams plays. Once it ends the vertical scroll bar for the page which has been locked until now unlocks and the page scrolls by it's self! Down to the main body of the article if down properly and timed right this happens when the music changes fromt he super dramactic tot he softer part in the middle.

I understand the whole "Banned from forum=Banned from wiki", but why "Banned from forum=pretend a lack of existence on wiki"?  It seems like pretending Hitler and Al Capone didn't exist.

We don't discuss people who are banned on the forum, nor do we need to discuss them on the wiki. The forum projects should focus on those who are good members not those who cause trouble.

Anyone banned from the wiki has caused trouble or defaced it in some way. We don't need that.

Title: Re: GamingSteve Wiki
Post by: PatMan33 on July 15, 2008, 07:02:37 pm
There are some inaccuracies and inconsistencies with the wiki. First and foremost is the usage of "Gaming Steve" and "GamingSteve". I know we all use both, but we should pick a standard usage, preferably "Gaming Steve".

Also the page about the Storytelling and Roleplaying Section is named incorrectly. The wiki has it as "The Storytelling and Roleplay Section" when it is actually "The Storytelling and Roleplaying Section". That'll need to be patched up as well. I can't do it without making a whole new page and that's kind of useless. Anyway that's all I've got for now. I've opened up a page for the Superpower RP and also am playing with a page that is a general introduction to the Role Playing segment of the forum which will have links to all of the other places that are relevant.
Title: Re: GamingSteve Wiki
Post by: Brandonazz on July 15, 2008, 07:17:17 pm
I've gone about and moved the page from "Storytelling and Roleplay Section" to "Storytelling and Roleplaying Section."

It's on everyone to collectively use the term "Gaming Steve" correctly when referring to the community.

Why does that issue bother you so much? I find it very puzzling.

I fixed the portrait section to list by artist and to show it as a gallery. It'll be easier to add new ones.

I uploaded the Sim Cruise Winner image onto the wiki for any of the winners to use on their user pages.

There is probably some code I'd have to edit in one of the files to do that. If you can find the code for it, I can add it. I hope to add all the players and their sims to the files eventually so if anyone wanted to download them, they could.

edit: I found it, I'll work on getting it installed.

Not sure. I can't find any wiki code for any type of infobox.

I was looking for a way to make infoboxes similar to this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_Nations). Though it's a VG infobox, it seems of fairly simple design that can be changed to be used for any type of page.

Code: [Select]
{{Infobox VG
|title =

|publisher =
|distributor =
|designer =
|engine =
|version =
|released =
|genre =

I use a program called Logic Express which runs exclusively on Macs. A lot of these programs set you back at the very least 200 bucks. Logic is pretty good on price without sacrificing quality since a lot of other software is too complicated or very crappy.

Maybe I used the wrong info box templete. This is the one I installed: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Inputbox
The wiki starts sort of vanilla and extra things like that have to be added to the local settings php file and one wrong letter can screw up everything. I'll see if I can find a different one. If you know of a link, that would help.

Okay, I just noticed that I did an Inputbox not an infobox.  :-[  *I hate when that happens* Let me try again.

There's not enough updating happeing!  I put forward that we should push for more progress on our wiki front!  It'll be fun.  I'm already planning on starting up a page about Yannick and DarkDragon's shenanigans over the weekend, as it seems to have garnered a deacent bit of noteriety and should be documented for future generations!

*shrug*

I guess if we're gonna wikify something, it wouldn't be the forum. Just doesn't seem important enough and does the community really care? We can't even get people to read the rules, they'll never read a wiki. Besides, I don't think we're going to be seeing a huge rush of new people, we're on the decline now that Spore is out and was a bust.
Title: Re: GamingSteve Wiki

Time to dust off this topic. Side note, the spellcheck tries to correct "GamingSteve Wiki" to "Germinative Viki"

This wiki can be a great resource for us. We can record information about different creatures/characters/stuff from our different games and RPs. All those silly things you want to stuff into your signatures can go into your personal Wiki page. We should be encouraging it's use more. As such, I have put a link in my signature that links to my user page and have updated it with current information.

Just use the Random Page (http://ladympire.com/wiki/index.php/Special:Random) button on the side of the page to see how it's been used in the past.

I got a winner tag for... something.

I don't remember what, but its a stop sign for an image. I see it every now again in my pictures folder, and try to remember why I got it in the first place.

Here they are...

Mediocrity to excess is glory.

It means that even things that are meaningless, or even negative, when done to such levels can be the quality of some kind of pride. Like being the most detainee guy at your school, or building detailed working sculptures out of millions of toothpicks, or reproducing the Mona Lisa on an Etch-a-Sketch or even staying a virgin for over a hundred years.

And do we have an article about why Flisch sucks and deserves what he gets?

Flisch is our Israel.

Israel is treated well, flish badly. Flish deserves it (apparantly?)  but Israel doesn't.

They're pretty much opposite.

Update on the wiki.

We had a problem with spam attacks so we have locked down the wiki to ONLY registered users. If you are not registered then you must ask me or Oviraptor to create an account for you. Sorry.. but the captcha program wouldn't work and we had no other solution.

You can still use the wiki, you just need to let us create your account.
