Title: Site update
Post by: Gaming Steve on September 25, 2005, 08:53:34 pm
A few quick items. Expect the site to be moved during the week, so it might be down for a few hours during the week (but nothing major).

Also the big surprise for the podcast is nearly complete and ready to go. So expect that in the next podcast.

And my Spore surprise, I have that ready as well.

And I'm working on the new site design as well (but that's going to take a little bit longer).

So expect quite a bit in the next few weeks!!! It's going to get busy over here!

Heh, I've been listening to the new "stuff" for the upcoming podcast (still not ready, before the end of the month though). When you guys hear this I think your heads just might explode. But I'll give you a little hint...

What I've been working on is to make this not just the best gaming podcast out there but the best podcast ... period. I'm working to make this the "gold standard" that all other podcasts will try to live up to. Yes this might sound a bit presumptuous, but when you hear the next podcast I think you guys are going to understand, and hopefully agree. But let me tell you, it's going to be worth the wait and you will never be able to listen to the podcast the same way ever again!

Damnit, Steve! You can't say that much and then just say, "Oh, you have to wait a week. But trust me, you have not experienced life yet."

I'd like to put myself into a coma right now. Just for a week or so. I just don't feel like being conscious.

The site was just down for a few minutes...that probably doesn't have anything to do with updating it though, does it...lol.

You must be updating the site right now. And yes I found a way to post.

Is the error. Tranferring Steve?

So the site is moved. You'll be able to tell that it's on the new server because of the brand new "Spell Check" button on the bottom of the page! One thing down and about a million to go...

Yay! \@/

Spell check test.

Cool Steve! The post above was before the maintenance mode.

Sweet, it works great!

P.S. Is there any reason why I can't see my avatar, but I can see everyone else's?

And how do you explain this? http://www.imgcity.net/server/primary/Not right.JPG

Your avatar should be up and working now.

Let me know if you see anything else odd (but give me details so that I can debug it).

Ah, simple, the time on this server might be different than the original host. I can look into that and fix that.

I'm glad, the sites been down quite a bit lately.

It has been a total comedy of errors. Every single day something new was bringing down the site, including tonight. Every time I fixed it something else would break the site (something that wasn't my fault). It was just freaking insane.

Still need to tweak the settings on the new server, but at least now I have total control over everything.
Title: Re: Site update
Post by: Oviraptor on September 26, 2005, 08:12:49 pm
Well the only minor issue (not really an issue) is that down on the bottom it says, "View the 10 most recent posts on the forum," but when you click on it it shows the 20 most recent posts. :-\ That's not new, it has been like that, well since at least when I joined.

Can't think of any real problems right now.

Except your new server is set on a different time zone, so everyone will have to change their time settings.

Seems like the sites running and loading faster now on my dial up.
Anyone else noticing any difference?

Yeah, Steve new server is lightning fast, especially because he's the only one on it.

I just noticed something else; when you hover over the recent posts button at the top, it says "Edit Profile." Clearly that's not what it is supposed to say.

Also, I am loving this new spellchecker!
Title: Re: Site update
Post by: Gaming Steve on September 26, 2005, 08:33:40 pm
So is the site faster for you guys? It's actually a bit slow for me, which is making me a bit concerned. I'm looking into the server load and seeing what's going on. But tomorrow should be a better test since the updated domain name will be all over the Internet.

Just keep mentioning anything you see and I'll get to those changes. The "big" ones I'll do right away (like having avatars working) but smaller ones (like the "last 10 posts") I'll fix a bit later.

I'm finally back on. I couldn't sign in last night even after the site was up. :(  I felt so left out. So far so good and it is fast for me too. Spell check is cool and I spelled everything right  ;D

edit to add: Do we still have the option to add polls? I tried to find it today and couldn't.

Your DNS must have updated later in the evening, which is why it took you some time to get moved over (it used to take 24-48 hours, but it only took me like 5 minutes to get the DNS updated last night).

Try to add a poll, it should work. The button is there for me and the option is turned on in the software, let me know if it's not working for some reason.

The site does seem to be running faster, except for when I click the 'Forum Index' link on the main page.
Other than that, its all goooood.
Now, hows that new and exciting podcast coming along? ;)

The good news, the new podcast is "done". The bad news, I have several hours of work to do on the podcast before it's finished. Probably will be up tomorrow (will try tonight, but I doubt it). Oh yeah, and it will have the new Spore "stuff" as well. Heh.
