Title: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 03, 2008, 03:30:14 pm
so i wont just start the fortress yet

there are a few things we need to do before we can send our dwarves to there demise:

where are we going to set up camp? flat land..or mountains, or...i dont know...in the midle of a goblin camp?

the advantage of flat land is that its easier to survive and stuff like that...the disadvantage is that its lavaless and there is less cool underground

the advantage of a mountain area is the coolnes since it should have lava and maybe some cool monsters lurking inside...the bad side is that the slopes make the area confusing and annoying to build on

goblin camp speaks for itself  ::)

note that i will always try to find a river area since we dont want our dwarves to die thirsty(we want to see them thorn apart)

another question is how are we going to do this? i though of just naming the dwarves after forum people and then let the people vote what we should do next like building an underground river or making a giant lava wall of death

and also if you want to join then post it here

Sign me up.

Also, if you prefer flat land over mountains, then go for the frickin' desert.
Unless that spells certain doom, go for grassy plain.

its not that i dislike mountains

its just that it gets messy with all those slopes and its hard to understand the big picture

I figured a mountain because I had my first succesful Fortress by one. (YES thanks to your support I got an operational Fortress).
There should be a Durgon Dwarf, that can defend everyone from the evil Goblins. (My successful Fortress got ownd by the Goblins :( )

Mountain, 'cus I want lava.

I'm hoping to get a Neoadept Dwarf on the team, perhaps?  He will construct the traps to crush goblins beneath rock, lava, and the occasional room of slowly rising water.

Note too: the LEVEL_UP and LEVEL_DOWN keys have been changed to / and * on the keypad!! Remember this!

I'm thinking a mountain in a frozen wasteland.  Mountain of Madness-esque.

Could we have the living area in flat plains near a mountain and just strip mine the mountain flat?

Slartibartfast will work with stone.  Miner/Mason/Engraver.

cool, also with a mountain you can usually have some sort of water based doomsday device - I'll explain more later.

alright huge problem with icy mountains:

water

there is only ice and i dont have the heat yet to make it water

so our dwarves cant drink or make crops

unles anyone has an idea im not going to go icy...unles you want this game to be short

Is there anyway to bring ice inside and melt it near a fire?  We could make a pool.

If you dig down far enough you might find a level warm enough to sustain liquid water. Also, aren't there native beasts to hunt for food?

That's why he specified a stone mason.  That is, a mason who works with stone.  It's a play on words, wherein mason in conjunction with the handshake comment refer to the Free Masons, and stone mason refers to the profession.

I say we move unless there's a level deep enough to melt ice manually.

It looks like moving is going to win.

Let's move to a malaria ridden swamp . . . with a mountain in it.

When we start over, let's redo skills and equipment to make sure everything is ready.

You, sir, deserve a salute!

Also I reckon C, we'll need to mine down anyway and if we're further up the mountain then we're protected against flooding. All we need to do is dig down a couple of levels and when we're making the irrigation for our farms we can dig one level down and create a reservoir for a well to guarantee drinking water for the winter.

Make it a diary.

There needs to be some sort of story to make this interesting, otherwise we're just watching you play a game.

Have you read Boatmurdered?  Have it setup from the point of view of the person in charge.

We need to come up with a back story for a group named Ace Crazy Ball-Breakers of Frenzy.

Are we in a swamp or a forest?

Does Durgon have skills now?

Show us our thoughts.

Expain some of the symbols on the screen.  What are those crystals?  What kind of rocks are those?  Give us details!

Have Slarti smooth all the stone in his room, then engrave the floors and walls.

Defenses should have priority.

Rename them as people request it.

Where are the animals?  Why aren't we being attacked by wolves?

ok...this may not go a smooth as i expected...i had to abandon the fortress since almost everyone died of hunger >_<

all because at the last second the brook froze over right before i could water the farm

this is going mighty crappy... i will try to find another place and try again and if it wont work this time i will quit  :-\

this time im going to take all precautions though
first i will make a backstory of why our dwarves go there in the 1st place and then i will do it all diary style

lets hope to god it works this time

Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 05, 2008, 04:25:49 pm
alright here we go again  ::)

a small group of dwarves have been sent to a large mountain area in the south to search for endless riches. the group called Nil kast or 'the Hammer of geniuses' consits of 7 dwarves assembled to fill each roll needed to create and maintain an outpost in the mountains. there goal is
to set up a camp where they can live on there own and then to find as much ores and gems as possible.

however what they do not know is that the mountain and the plains around it are filled with dangers.
goblins rule the land and monsters hide in the shadows of the mountain. will this outpost known as Savotavus or 'standmine' grow to be a city of its own, or will it be nothing more than a crypt? time will tell.

Celdur`s diary:

Granite 1st, 1055.

we are almost there! i cant believe this is finally going to happen.
Neoadapt said that the mountains where filled with demons and monsters
but i refuse to believe that.

we have finally arrived at our destination, i waited on this moment for so long.
the weather is allot better than i would have expected and its really peacefully.

durgon scouted the area and found a few good spots to start encampment

somewhere up really high in the mountains (ground lvl 5)

or allot lower and close to the river (ground lvl 1)

he said he saw a few good spots along the river too (ground lvl 0)
big picture so i linked it (http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/Celdur/DF1-3-1.png)

i guess its for me to decide where we should go.

thats it...hope you all stick with this...since im kinda messing this up

I agree with Slarti, that looks like a pretty defensible area to me. Just don't dig it out so that it becomes too big to defend, start the digging at the actual back and go inwards.

im tired of doing the basic beggining over and over :P...anyway i have to make sure we dont die so fast so i have to give you guys a little les freemdom in the beginning

Celdur diary

Granite 6th

i chose the location close to the river since its well protected from any outsiders
we couldnt get down the mountain with all these goods so our miners dug a way down
(http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/Celdur/DF2-1-1.jpg)

its pretty dark inside, it gives me the chills.

Granite 10th

our miners dug out the begining of the living quaters
to my suprize most of the stone is blue
Slarti said that the blue rock is microlite
he said that its worthless but at least it looks pretty

Granite 29th

me and sam made a farm plot outside and then i went looking for some things to plan
i found some berries and im sure they are eatable so i will plant those.

we finaly finished the bedrooms!
im sick of sleeping on the floor so im glad its finaly done

Hematite 2nd

we finaly finished the living quaters
the next step, acording to neo, is to tap the water of the river
and to make an underground water suply so that we have something to drink in winter
he also said that with this water we could make an underground farm
i like that idea since we are running out of plump helmet

ok thats it for now
its allot more fun doing it diary style...i hope you guys like to read it too
the underground water suply has to be done...so i will not add it to the poll

Food, storage, workshops, defense -- seems to the the right order.  Don't forget to make a trading post.

Microlite. (http://www.galleries.com/minerals/oxides/microlit/microlit.htm)  Interesting.
Quote
Remember, this is a slightly radioactive mineral and should be stored away from other minerals that are subject to damage from radioactivity and of course human exposure should be limited!
Glad we're not humans and the that game can't possibly be that detailed.   ;D

Yes, just go ahead and do things that HAVE to be done.
Everything on the very bottom, just go ahead and do those.
You can ask us what we would prefer to eat, but always make sure we have something.

Our votes should be for interesting and crazy things like making a temple that looks like the GamingSteve's head.

alright here we go again...

Celdur`s diary

Hematite 10th

the miners began working on the water storage
its amazing how fast they work

we have found our first ore! acording to slarti its galena
he said that you can melt it into lead and that there is a small chance of it containing silver
he also told me that by finding this there is a large chance of finding gold in the area
i have no idea how he knows this but at least he knows what he is doing

Hematite 20th

there is something wrong with this area
the plants wont grow up here, i have no idea what is causing it
we better find the cause soon. or make the underground farm

Malachite 5th

Neoadapt finished construction on a trade depot
they said that traders would come in fall so they could come any time soon now

Malachite 30th

still no solution to the farm problem
the water storage is almost done and i cant make any food
where are those damn traders?

limestone 3th

finaly the traders arived! its nearly winter already
i bought some plump helmet, it should be enough to get through the winter

neoadapt had nearly completed the floodgates nececary to manage the water flow
i wish the traders had chain or rope since we cant build a well without it

limestone 20th

some imegrants arived. great, more mouths to feed
the winter is going to be rough
at least they know how to fish

yeah can anyone explain why the hell my farm plot aint working? i know how it works so thats not the problem...they just refuse to plant anything...its driving me mad

next turn i will make a underground farm...

anyway here is a list of the immigrants:
farmerx2
fisher
jeweler/miner
metalsmith
animal trainer/fisher
soldier/peasant

choose any if you like to join

EDIT: daxx is the soldier :D he has a crossbow
        Henqix is the metalsmith
werechicken is the jeweler who is now mason and miner
        cobra is a animal trainer/fisher

the other jobs are still open :D

sure you can! :D

but i do always give dwarves a few extra jobs...

so he isnt really pure  ;D
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast

But we need a pure fisherdwarf to get us through winter!  Unless the river/brook has already frozen, in which case go ahead.

We need to find some good ore so that we can make some proper weapon traps, and our own chain for the well.

yeah can anyone explain why the hell my farm plot aint working? i know how it works so thats not the problem...they just refuse to plant anything...its driving me mad
What are you planting?  Where are you planting it?  When are you planting it?

Crops. (http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Category:Crops)  Make sure you're planting above ground crops in the right season.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 07, 2008, 04:38:40 am
i planted them outside, on the right soil
i told them to plant it in the right season
i checked the wiki if they could be planted in the seasons...it could

look i have had allot of farms before so its not my mistake

i checked the DF forum and some guys had the same problem...but it just magicly fixed at them
maybe i should just wait until after winter

If you can't get anything to grow before fall, kill everything you can find and turn it into jerky.

this is it
the amazingly long super crazy deluxe episode with a massive turning point
so lets go! :D

Celdur`s diary

winter, unknown date(s?)

so cold. the brook froze over but the water supply didn't
there isn't a well but we can get water from it anyway

food is running out. i have no idea how long winter lasts
but it better be over soon or i will eat a dog

they started digging an underground farm for after winter
its close to the river since we have to pump it dry and we don't want that water in our fortress

today was terrible
2 of our men broke trough the ice because it was too thin to stand on
they both drowned in the ice cold water

Granite 1th, 1056

spring has arrived! they started working on some forges to make metal crafts

they also began working on a huge storage. i wonder when it will be done

granite 20th

some elves came. stupid treehuggers
the do not accept any wood or animal parts
because its 'against nature'

hematite 4th

YES! Sam found out the problem of the farm and he was finally able to grow something!
i went planting seeds right away

hematite 10th

neoadapt made a pumping system to clear the sewers of water
it didn't work, he said the brook was to shallow to turn the water wheel
he said he was going to replace the wheel to the dug out deeper water

hematite 19th
allot of immigrants arrived today
we chose neoadapt to be our leader
since he does the most things and he is the smartest
he said that if anyone wants to be the sheriff they could
volunteer at his office.

malachite 3th

werechicken went crazy today
he stayed in his room shooting 'jeweler workshop'
to everyone who passed by.
neoadapt heard of the story and he told us to make one
for him and to see what hapens.

malachite 7th

they finally finished the workshop for werechicken
and the next thing he does is run in a straight line from his room
to the workshop.
then he sat down a started screaming for rough gems
i cant sleep with all this screaming
someone should shut him up

malachite 8th

veraal found some gems south of our camp!
i cant believe our luck! he started cutting them right away

i never saw a dwarf run so fast when werechicken heard the news

malachite 9th

damnit! this has got to stop now!
werechicken took some gems to his workshop
and now he is screaming for leather!
we don't have that!
I'm going to ask neo to do something about it right now!

i can believe what neo said.
he said we should butcher an animal and give him the leather!
am i the only sane person around here?

malachite 10th
i finally had some sleep tonight
it seems like werechicken Finlay shut up
and he started making something mysterious
i wonder what it is

malachite 15th
neoadapt finished the pumping system
it works now but the water is going everywhere
as soon as it finishes we can make our underground farm

damn what an episode...
the 2 guys who drowned where celdur and wizard  ::)
i took the 2 nameless guys and renamed them...its a bit to soon to let anyone die
but when anyone else dies from this point they die...so remember that

the farm magically started working after winter...as i predicted
yay!

the immigrants are:
Fisherx4
recruitX4
woodcutterX2
child
blacksmith
farmerx3
mason/mechanic

yeah...quite a list
and yes...we have allot of fish now  ;D

and i cant believe that i got all the items for werechicken! i was lucky to find those gems and i got the leather just in time
if i was a little later werechicken would go crazy  ;D

also i made some screens of the whole fortress(the river is on level0

level1 (http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/Celdur/fortlvl1v1.jpg)
level0 (http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/Celdur/fortlvl0v1.jpg)

Defense or possibly a big lake. Water is impotent. But risk of attack is getting greater and great. The rest i think can wait.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast

Nice, good to see i am an excellent gem-finder.

Anyways, we need to do something about defenses, as Yok said.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Werechicken on February 07, 2008, 09:40:40 am
lol - I went nuts. Also if your farm is above ground only a few crops will grow, for best results you need a below ground farm.

Anyway you'll want a gem workshop as it's a really good way to make allot of money.
For a good water supply build an underground lake then a well right above it, your dwarfs will be much happier than simply drinking out of the river.
As for the goblins just build loads of traps.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 07, 2008, 09:52:20 am
werechicken i already made the underground farm...i only need to water it

and didnt you read carfully? i made a gem workshop for you cause you went nuts lol

and i already have a small water supply...with a well on top of it(made a lead chain)

Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast

Then why are you making a farm above ground as well.
Also why are you asking if we should make an underground lake then, if you've already got one?
As for the gem workshop what I meant was that you'd have had to have built one anyway so it's not a bad thing that you had to build one.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 07, 2008, 11:45:42 am
the above ground farm is just until we have the underground farm working

and the water suply under the well is kinda small...if you have a lake you can use it for lots of engineering things

Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Neoadept on February 07, 2008, 11:57:43 am
Wait, I thought we made some flood gates, how did the farm flood?
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 07, 2008, 12:24:34 pm
the farm flood? it didnt flood...if you mean the small room on the right of lvl-1 then thats the water storage

the room above the sewer on lvl -1 is the farm  ::)

:D And I asked for fisherdwarf as I thought they would last. :D Turns out we were the first to die!

Also, I agree with the defenses. Nothing Fancy for now, Just something we can do to keep the whole fortress from getting slaughtered when a half blind old goblin (with a limp) gets in.

Post by: Celdur on February 07, 2008, 02:38:15 pm
this was kinda boring...nothing really hapened...ah well here we go

Celdur`s diary

malachite 20th

i found out that the underground farm is moist enough to farm on
so we don't need to water it
i made a farm plot right away

malachite 21th

werechicken finaly finished his job
its a beautiful coffin
why would he make a coffin?
he really is crazy

limestone 5th

they are conecting the farm and the water suply so that we dont have to walk
all the way around

limestone 6th

we finally have a well! i was getting sick of going on my knees to drink
slarti and veraal also found gold while digging out the storage! now where finaly
getting somewhere!

limestone 8th

another dwarf went crazy today
he didnt scream like werechicken did so i don't mind much

that crazy dwarf finished his thing already!
its a amazing armor stand
i wish i had that in my room

limestone 15th

they made some storages close to the farm
one is for seeds and the other for plants
they also made a place to brew drinks
and thats god cause its been a while since
i had my last drink

limestone 21th

we made a small wall today
the gates can only be opened and closed by a lever
its not really much but it can prevent most things from coming in
neo said that he was going to make some traps soon
i dont know if thats safe, its not like anything is going to attack us

limestone 25th

even more migrants came today
its getting quite crowded
luckaly the farm is going great! i  have lots of people helping me
and the food stocks just wont stop growing!

thats it for today
only a puny wall i know :P i will make some traps next episode
i tried to look for ore but the miners where to busy finishing the storage
luckaly there was ore there :D

also here are the migrants:
clothier
farmer/fisher
blacksmithx2
farmer
child
mason

39 people living here now...

and werechicken is legendary!
so is the random metalsmith dwarf

Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Mr. Wizard on February 07, 2008, 04:01:27 pm
This is great! Show us the description of the armorstand too :D

And make an inner and outer door set too. That way you can make a small enclosed area to mess around with. Lots of options with that lobby of death ;) Is Magma unlimited, or is that only with volcanoes? (if that's implemented) It's been a while since I played, so I am not aware of all the changes. I would love if we could both flood that lobby with water or magma,  depending on our needs.

Can we get a full Fortress shot now? :D
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 07, 2008, 04:14:42 pm
i had a full fortress shot last episode...the only thing new is the rooms beside the farm

and magma isnt infinite

and im sure we can make an area of death >:D

it are up/down stairs...so they go both ways

that way i can build a...underground flat...if you get what i mean

wouldn't lava be infinite if you encounter a lava flow, wouldn't it behave like a river?
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 08, 2008, 09:12:37 am
ok im constructing something really really awsome and deadly but it wont be finished until next episode
most of it is done already and yes, it has allot to do with water  ;D (also: ballista`s!)

oh nad ladym your a craftsdwarf you make toys and instruments to trade with and you also make arrows...if that makes you happy

so here is episode 6:

Celdur`s diary

winter, moonstone 3th

the storage room is almost done
veraal found another blue stone but this time its darker

neo said that cutting out the storage make more stone than it can storage so we made a huge stockpile north of the outpost to get rid of it all

moonstone 7th

the river froze again
luckaly we dont have to worry about that now
our underground farm is going good and the water supply isnt near empty

they made a big golden statue in the bedroom lobby to show of our wealth
its beautiful

moonstone 11th

today a clothier had the same weird behaviour as werechicken and that metalsmith
unfortunatly we dont have any cloth and there is no way of getting it here until a merchant comes.

the clother just went nuts
he started screaming and he knocked someone out
before i knew what hapened durgon came down and killed him
it was bloody

moonstone 30th

they replace the stairs leading up the mountain
now the only entrance is trough the gate or trough the farmhouse

Granite 1st 1057

this year passed allot faster somehow
i guess because everything is going so well
neoadapt and slarti desinged a 'death trap' for any unwanted visitors
i have no idea what it is but it looks like a pipe
it leads straigt underneath the entrance

Hematite 10th

veraal finaly found something in the underground tunnel
its not what they where looking for but its a metal where you can make
nickel out of, they say. its called granierite, whatever that means

hematite 21th

even more migrants came
now neoadapt is officialy a mayor and he is making demands right away
all of the sudden his room and office is not good enough
and he made a mandate that we need to make copper items
we dont even have copper, what the hell is wrong with him

not so exciting episode this time
but i will make it up for you
i made another blueprint of the whole area
and i will explain neo`s CHAMBER OF DEATH!

ok this is what im doing:
the pump will pump the water trough the pipe...one Z level up at the end of the pipe is the chamber
(the wheel powers the pump)

there will be balistas placed at the red arrows
ballistas are 3X3 size and can be turned 90 degrees to any side
they can fire trough the windows that i made
ballista`s kill almost anything with 1 hit but they can only shoot in a straight line

when the goblins come i will close the north floodgates(also count as doors)
they will then go in the LOBBY OF DOOM and try to break them
then i will close the southern floodgates and then i will active the pump
the pump will drain water out of the pipe that is one Z level down
the LOBBY OF DOOM will flood drowning everything inside

im also making a pump above the lobby of doom...so that i can be emptied once the goblins are dead

i know...its awsome!  ;D

here is the whole map blueprint

(the river is on lvl 0)

level -1 (http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/Celdur/DFlvl-1v2.jpg)
level 0 (http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/Celdur/DFlvl0v2.jpg)
level 1 (http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/Celdur/DFlvl1v2.jpg)

and here are the new migrants
i will make a full list of what we have soon

soldierx3
farmerx4
metalsmithx3
woodcutterx2
fisherx2
minerx2
hunter

thats it for today  ;D

well the clothier was 'posessed'...werechicken and that metalcrafter had the same

its when they take a workshop and make a legendary item

we just didnt have any cloth and it was imposible to get it in our area so he couldnt make his stuff

and when they cant make it...they go nuts

in another fortress i had a dwarf who took off all his clothes and then jumped into the river
it was funny ;D

Big big lake. Just for safety.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: B.A.S. on February 08, 2008, 02:47:38 pm
We defenitly need some Weapons, who knows how many more dwarves may get possessed and myself and Daxx (I think he was a Solider Class) cant hold them off, also what about Goblins? In my last game I got attacked by alot of them when I barely had any Dwarves so I dont know who would win in a one on one fight between an ordinary goblin and ordinary dwarf.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 08, 2008, 02:52:41 pm
goblins only start sieging when you have over 80 dwarves

before that they just send thieves that sneak in and steal your kids
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast

If you make a big underground lake, the water wont be..."spoiled" or anything?
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Celdur on February 08, 2008, 04:14:01 pm
the river is infinite...and water cant be poisoned or anything

lakes are just usefull as a water suply and you can use them for all kinds of things like water traps, farms, wells or powering a water wheel
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Veraal on February 08, 2008, 04:15:32 pm
Veraal: I like water, lets slowly make a lake.

First i think we should make weapons and armor.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Werechicken on February 08, 2008, 05:12:45 pm
more armour than weapons, if we've got a good passive defense then when the goblins attack us, just wipe them out with your drowning chamber and you've got a pretty decent sized collection of weaponry.
Title: Re: The Dwarven fortress adventures of Nil kast
Post by: Slartibartfast on February 08, 2008, 10:26:26 pm
Make armor for everyone

Now that there are two more miners, set Slarti to smoothing the floors and walls and once he's an expert at that, have Slarti engrave them.  I want to see the sort of graffiti he comes up with.

SHOW US THE LEGENDARY ARMOR RACK!

FYI:  Kimberlite usually has diamonds in it.

Yeah. Kimberlite is a good indicator for diamonds. If there is no Kimberlite then the chance of finding diamonds are slim to none.

yeah its hard to show every player...i can only give them a name and a task and thats it

and its hard to keep track of everything when there are 30 other dwarves

some people just got lucky like neo...the game just randomly selected him as 'leader' probably because he was the smartest with engineering architecture and siege engineering  ::)

and yes ladym...now she is making allot of toys out of fish bones :P

mega episode! with some intersting twists :D
it was hard to make weapons since it coulnt be made out of gold or aluminium
and wooden swords isnt really that effective
but i managed to get some copper and weapons are in full production now ^^
armor will come later but now most of them have leather armor so its not to much of a problem

Celdur`s diary

hematite 24th
a dwarf volounteered to be the sherrif. his name is Danzik
i have no idea why anyone would want that responsebility
but i guess he likes to boss people around

hematite 26th

neoadapt is seriously worried about goblins
he set up a lists of what weapons and armor all the soldiers should have
its hard to make now since we dont have any metal that can be used for weapons
i wonder if there will ever be any goblins

malachite 1st

the food supplies are really low
we can barely feed everyone.

i know that neoadapt is a bit crazy but i didnt expect this to happen
one of the soldiers has been elected new mayor
i never heard of him and i heard that he has no skill in ANYTHING.
who voted for this guy anyway?

malachite 20th

today was a crazy day
im quite shocked and im happy i can still write this journal entry
early in the morning a goblin sneaked in and grabed one of our kids at the well

durgon was close so he sliced the goblins head right off
it was quite amazing how fast it went

later that day
the kid who was saved by durgon held a party for the heroic deeds of durgon.
but it was soon interupted by another goblin!

the goblin was soon killed by the guards
the kid has no been saved two times in one day
lucky kid.

and then after another while i was farming on the field when i saw a goblin sneak
i ran away as fast as i could and called for help

a guard came down and made sure the goblin didnt go further in the fort

he chased the goblin down the corridor and it tried to escape trough the farm
someone locked the door from the other side but then the goblin managed to run by the guard

the guard then chased the goblin back and knocked him unconcious

it was killed soon after
it was quite a mess

galena 7th

another dwarf got a mood to make something amazing
he kicked ladyM out of her shop and started making something

after a while he finished and make a beautiful stone ring

galena 18th

neo`s chamber is finaly done
the pump is operational and the ballista`s are loaded
he is going to mechanize the pump next he said
im happy to hear this because now i know that the goblin treath is real

limestone 10th

durgon died of hunger
i wish i could have made more food
then he wouldnt have died
everyone is hungry but the merchants will be here soon
i hope its not to late

sandstone 10th

the merchants came today
we moved all ladym`s crafts to the trade depot
and we got around 100 plump helmet out of it
she made crafts all year and she really saved our lives with it

our foodstocks are now back in action
i hope durgon was the last and only man to die of hunger in this fort

what an episode

most of the weapons are done by now

and yeah...durgon died of hunger...why him of all people
daxx is now the leader of the soldiers
at least he sliced a goblins head off >_>

anyway here is the armor stand you people asked for

better late then never ;)

we can expect a goblin siege in the next few episodes
and today we even had more migrants:

fisher
soldierx2
mason
metalsmith
trapper
jeweler
siege operator/mechanic

Prepare to repel goblins.  More deathtraps, especially at the farm entrance.  Train all those dogs into wardogs.

Rename the child Durgon II.  It's a very Dwarven thing to do.

Are those dwarf skeletons laying around outside?  If so, Slarti volunteers to dig a mausoleum.

Shucks I died, and of Hunger what a way to go. Saved a kid and killed a goblin and a psycho Dwarf I guess thats not so bad. I agree with naming a kid Durgon II, or at least name another one of the Soldiers after Durgon >.>. Also a question was I captain of the guard? Or did we not have on before and Daxx just decided to become one?

this is a boooring episode...almost nothing hapened
at least the fortress looks 10 times better now

Celdurs diary

sandstone 16th

they renamed the kid who was saved by Durgon 'Durgon II'
i think Durgon deserves that

timber 15th

a metalsmith made a really weird shoe
it looks perfectly crafter but it just doesnt seem right

timber 20th

the meyor decided we should make the whole fortress look better
he thinks that these rough walls are too sloppy for this outpost
i dont know whats wrong with it but this means i wont be able to sleep for the next months
all that ticking to smooth the walls drives me insane

moonstone 13th

we had allot of kobolds sneaking in stealing our stuff
but this time we catched one!

the same guy who saved me from the goblin at the farm killed this kobold
and he became quite a wrestler now
the mayor decided to make him leader of the squad until someone better shows up

opal 6th

the lake froze over again and neoadapt noticed that our water trap is quite useles in winter
i hope those goblins never come during winter then

opal 30th

we are finding allot of new gems
the mountain is filled with valuable stuff
we really picked the right spot

granite 8th

today allot of migrants came
there was also a dungeon keeper with them
i heard they are in charge of all the gold and gems
and that they can even tame beasts as big as dragons

granite 15th

the smoothing of all the walls is complete now
it looks really nice in the end
im proud to live here

let them come i say ;D

list of migrants:

minerx2
crafter/carpenter
soldierx7
mechanicx2
metalsmithx2
farmerx2
masonx2
fisher/farmerx3

granite 20th

they made some traps at the farm entrance
im sure no one will get trough now

granite 29th

they where expanding the water storage today
i had to haul all the rocks out
its really hard to lift these rocks when your to your knees in water
they had to expand the well because one well is to few to suport all the people
living here

malachite 4th

while diging out an area for the new barracks some sand collapsed and knocked
veraal and another miner unconcious.
veraal got up quickly but the other guy had to be taken to bed

malachite 16th

they finished the bottom floor of the barracks
slarti says that its the armor and weapon storage
there arnt many weapons now though

galena 5th

the mayor took the craftdwarfs workshop!
he is making pictures of rough gems but we dont have any
all the gems are cut

the trap at the farm entrance catched a few kobold thieves
there are body parts everywhere
i dont like to go trought that door now

galena 25th

another goblin sneaked in our fort
he was quickly overpowered by all the soldiers
i didnt even notice it hapening until it was over

galena 29th

it seems like everyone is working on the barracks
i wonder when it will be finished
i dont even know what its going to look like

limestone 15th

the mayor went nuts today
he couldnt make what he wanted to
he locked himself in his room and he refuses to eat
now we are searching for a new mayor

limestone 20th

the new drinking room is done
we now have 4 wells
its allot bigger than it used to be

neo also finished to automize the water trap
i hope it all works when it needs to work

moonstone 10th

goblins attacked yesterday
they ordered us all to go inside so i dont know what hapened
all i know is that more than half of all the soldiers are dead
we survived though

i would have done 'daxx`s journal'...but erm...he died
so i will just say it like this

the goblins came from the north beside the river
(they killed a kobold thief when they entered twas pretty funny)

they moved torwards my main entrance
i left it open on purpose to make them think that they could just walk in
i let my soldiers wait in the barracks until i used all my tricks on them

but when the goblins came the people who where maning the ballistas got scared and ran away
even though they are protected by a wall if the goblins come to close the ballista people will run...so yeah thats pretty useles

so then i thought i just let them go in my trap and drown them all
but what i didnt realise is that i made a ramp so that my dwarves can build a roof on the barracks

so all the goblins just went on the roof and then inside the barracks
they fought my soldiers and about 10 of them died before the goblins where all dead

so that was a pretty messed up fight

when the goblins come next time the barracks will be done so they should walk straight in my water trap

but i dont know what to do with those ballistas  :-\

this is whats left of the army:

sorry daxx >_<

we also had some migrants:

fisher
fisher/farmer
farmerx2
mecahnicx2
Guard

Atleast his daxx' death wasnt as bad as starving to death.

Also put doors on the rooms to the ballista, and lock it when the dwarves enter the rooms, that will increase the chance that they get a spine and fire the darn things. Also, the only reason they may have gotten scared was that they knew the goblins could get at them. So when the breach is fixed you should have no problems with soldiers abandoning their posts.

Make a cage which crushes the goblin inside it with the dead bodies of other goblins, the irony!

Seearch for magma, if you can store it you can make very deadly traps.

well i think they would more likely just all push there back to the walls instead of fireing the thing
but i will try to lock the doors next time

i will also make some traps on the barracks and then connect the barracks to the fort underground

and ofcourse, remove that damn ramp  ::)

this episode is CRAZY
its hilarious disturbing and sad all at the same time
i didnt get to do anything because well...here is why

moonstone 11th

danzik went crazy today
he chased everyone down trying to kill them
luckaly i didnt run into him

also another farmer laughed like a madman and
went to the tanner workshop
he killed the guy who worked there and made a dwarven bone chain
i stay away from him too

the little boy Durgon saved has gone mad too
he was soon killed by the soldiers

moonstone 12th

it stinks everywhere
its unbearable
i hope i wont get sick or anything

danzik who was stil running around trying to hurt people
was shot by a hunter who tried to defend himself

and the next day celdur died...im not sure who i should pass the diary to so im going to do it like this

the way celdur died made me laugh

mr.consideration went mad and killed celdur really quickly (he is a woodcuter...he has a freaking AXE)

then he went inside...killed another farmer
and after that another 3 dogs
before he was slain by the soldiers

after that a trapper went nuts and went after the people in the mining area

he left a trail of death behind him
(http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/Celdur/DF10-15.jpg)

he trapped (hehe he is a trapper irony isnt it) allot of dwarves in a corner
and he was ready to kill them all
the guards where a long distance away so it was hopeles

but mr.wizard was among those people! and he killed the trapper with his bare hands

next a soldier went mad (sigh)
he had no weapons luckaly
he went one floor up and tried to kill the guy who made the dwarven bone chain in his sleep

the guy woke up however, and killed the soldier...damn...that guy is something else  ;D

after that it cooled down a bit...everyone is still sad and mad
bodies everywhere and miasma fills the rooms
no one feels like doing a job since its all missary
this will pass after a while though
and then we can get on the go again

this is whats left

who should a pass the diary on to?
since celdur is dead  ::)

alright it took a while but here it is:
wizard`s journal sounds kinda odd but whatever

Wizard`s journal

moonstone 15th

celdur is dead now
i took celdurs diary and decided to continue it
i baraly survived the same horror he went trough
im sure he would want me to finish this journal

and i always wanted to have one

moonstone 20th

today henqix couldnt stand all the bloody mess around here
he wanted to kill the man next to him but unfotunatly it was the dungeon master
that guy has quite a punch

the graveyard is becoming a pile now
it stinks so we decided to make a tomb

granite 6th 1059

we found out the goblins wont give up quite yet
they sent another goblin thief and it tested our traps for us
lucky for us the traps worked

felsite 11th

the barracks is finaly done
there is no way inside it without walking over a few traps so it should be safe
not even a ramp can get you in this time

we also started making some traps around the lobby
i have no idea what we are supposed to do with caged goblins
i dont think they will be good pets

hematite 4th

i think i should write in this journal more
at least im not wasting pages this way

they almost finished the tomb
we just need more coffins
its quite a creepy place if you ask me
but the dungeon master loves it

so that was it...kinda short i know

but it took a while before our dwarves picked up the chain of work again

we got some migrants by the way

carpenterx2
miner/masonx2
farmer/fisher
soldierx3
farmer
fisher
crafterx4

hurrah for crafters

im going to make sure there is no way inside the fort without serious damage on the goblins

i mean the goblins dont do much pshysical damage...but mentaly...its insane

Build lava pits under the cages, which we can open at will and burn the goblins. Or build lava abov the cages to pour on the goblins.

Or build a huge gaurd tower outside the fortress, with lava traps to pour on the first floor.

yeah sure...right after i find lava...

and besides...its allot more fun to play around with them rather than just burning/drowning them

Fine... Make an inescapeable pit which goblins fall into, and bet which one will survive all the fights.

Yeah, we should have an arena :D

RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!!

It's always awesome to see how brutalized goblins get by a pack of war dogs.

Also, a water-fillable trench is epic win... Rinse and repeat.

Brandonazz journal

sandstone 6th

today was a great day for nil kast
goblins attacked but they did not come prepared

first they tried to go trough our farm entrance
our traps did there job and after that the goblins found no entrance

then they tried the barracks lower entrance
one of our wrestlers fought to death there and a few goblins fell too

then they went up going straight for the main entrance
we shot out ballistas and they missed the goblins by an inch
then we closed the north floodgates but one of them was jamed by some wood!
what idiot placed it there?!

the cage traps did there job well and we catched 5 goblin raiders
im sure we will have fun with them in the newly built arena soon

after that they pressed on and we got suport from the human trader guards
we fought of many

soon the goblins realised there mistake of coming here and they fled

that will teach them

That big metal disk is a tribute to the traps which repelled the goblin invaders. Possibly a sort of primitive totemic device intended to summon more traps in the same way that cave paintings are thought to have been intended as a means by which the future could be skewed to contain a bountiful hunt for the human cavemen which painted them.

Oh, and could you name one of the dwarves Krakow Sam Jr... mabe a jeweller or metalcrafter.

opal 15th

we made a wall around the farm entrance and removed all the ramps
now the only way to get there is trough the barracks or trough the farm itself

granite 18th

neo finished making the control room for the lake
he says that its a miniature version of the lake
with a lever on the spot where floodgates will be
he said that we can expand the lake on all floodgate exits
i dont know why he told me that. im just a fisher

slate 14th

our military is back to full strenght
we just had loads of migrants who want to live here for some reason
and half of them was asinged to military right away
some of them had experience too!

slate 29th

our first arena fight didnt end well
someone forgot to strip the goblin from weapons so he killed the dog he fought
when the soldiers where sent to kill the goblin he fled but he met hi end soon after
at least no one got hurt, cept for that dog

they chased dwarves all around the fields

most of them where killed by the human traders that where present today though

veraal and werechicken where chased by 2 or 3 of them
they managed to lure the suckers into traps eventualy though

and from what ive heard slarti actualy managed to kill one!
with his bare hands
i barely killed that crazed guy and he didnt even have weapons

I'm just being curt.  I didn't feel the need to write an eight page thesis on why guards need to wear armor or why dead bodies shouldn't be left to rot in the sun.    :P

Post by: Yokto on February 27, 2008, 03:58:05 am
The bodies stay! They will ward of attackers with there gruesomeness! And we do not need more armor. We should expand on the defenses. Traps and defensive fortifications.

goblin bodies, even the bones, rot away after a while. I had the same idea for my fortress. Also if you're building a moat also build a wall behind it, so that it's not a complete exercise in pointlessness when winter rolls around.

Is there anyway we can turn the goblins bodies in to profit?
