Has anyone considered that these new images and footage are not from the very beginning of the cell stage? It could be a highly evolved cell already for all we know. I would assume everyone would start with a blank canvas and be able to evolve their own Cell as and when they chose. Eyes are scalable in the creature editor, I see no reason for them not to be for the cell.

Relax folks and stop over reacting about the cell stage (which is basically the tutorial). :)

Yeah, I think people keep getting stuck on the idea that the progress bar at the bottom is showing the progress through the game instead of just through the demo video.

Yeah, but I don't see where everyone is getting this idea that there's a lot more of the tidepool phase before this. There's no evidence of that.

Maybe because Will at some point said your creature gradually grows until it's big enought o come out of the tidepool, so you probably start out pretty small and grow in size overtime :P

Is it possible they devided the first stage in to two parts.
they would play the same
first your an aomeba in the cellular stage,
then a tiny water creature in the tidepool phase?

It's possible, but I don't think that's how it'll work.  Cellular is tidepool.  You're a little organism in a cubic milliliter of water and you grow as you progress until you're a bigger organism in a cubic meter of water, for example.  That's my guess as to how it'll work.  So...

molecule --v
(tidepool) cell thing -> sea slug --v
(creature)                              slug -> ape --v
(tribal)                                               smart ape -> caveman --v
(city)                                                                             early man -> modern man --v
(space)                                                                                                        spacefaring man

  Something like that.

Yeah, but I don't see where everyone is getting this idea that there's a lot more of the tidepool phase before this. There's no evidence of that.

We're getting it from a few things. We're getting it from common sense, hints like the green blobs, the increasingly contrasting colors, the evolved look of the critters, the background color, and the fact that spore changes a lot as you play it so it could be the same phase we saw in '05 in a later state.

Why would you assume that its a brandnew phase? There's no evidence of that. In fact, the above can be called common logic against that.

It's either I'm right or Will Wright is the devil (see page eight of this thread, a little bit more than halfway down the page)

I never said it was a brand new phase. It still seems to play like the old one, but the look is drastically different.

I just think that what passes for common sense on forums like these is often just people saying to themselves "that's what I would want if I were making the game." They're happy enough to forget that this does not necessarily line up with what the devs are actually doing, and it leads to people building up false impressions of what to expect from the game, leaving them disappointed to find out they were wrong when the game actually comes out.

They both have their charm. What I like about the new one is that it fits very well with the overall theme of the game. I really enjoy the new updated graphics. :)

I wonder if will was inspired by flow? the vid and screen shots look that way. As you get bigger and change the world changes around you.

It was on the flOw forums. The developers of flOw were stating the reason why there wasn't any updates lately.
The website escapes me now. Its probably on wikipedia, go have a look :)

Oh, there is also this interview with the flOw developer; http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/18/joystiq-qanda-jenova-chen/

"What are you currently working on?
Right now I'm working on Spore. "

Thats how I know.

Besides which, wasn't flOw, the original flash one, made after Spore was unveiled?
