I live in the great sub-continent of Texas. Yes. That is how awesome Texas is. We are our own sub-continent. ( And to all you geography buffs, What's that ? I can't hear you over Texas being so cool! )

I was born in England, near Felixstow (sp?), but I've lived most of my life in America, south of L.A.

Cool. I commute to there regularly. I'm a student at CSUSB. I relise thats probably no where you; San Bernardino is the largest county in the whole dang country (larger even than many states).

That doesn't make sense ???  Do you mean "largest region in the whole dang state"?  You couldn't say the same thing here since our largest state is about 3 times the size of Texas and our smallest state is about the size of Missouri

A county in the US is usualy a grouping of cities within a state. They usualy center around a single large city (ie. Riverside County centers around the city of Riverside, the same with San Bernardino County). The cities within a county are typicaly fairly loosely afiliated. Usualy they share things like Police or Fire Departmen. County political bodies can also pass laws to govern unicorperated areas that don't belong to any particular city.

Edit: Here's the Wiki entry. Doesn't say much about US counties, but it does have a map. San Bernardion County is the large rectangle shaped county in the South East of California (the long bent state on the west coast), Riverside County is the long thin county directly south of San Bernardino County.
