Creatures living on gas planets.

Anyways Jupiter is entirely made out of gas. Well what about gas atmospheres?
There some be some planets that have toxic gases in which the native species can brethe and if your invading you'll need bubble cities.
What does everyone think about gas planets?

*head explodes*
Hmm, I was saying earlier that they should just stick with a universal atmosphere, but I forgot about the bubble cities. This could have some possibilities.

It could be a duble bubble, if might have to float.

*pictures a giant helium-filled gas bag type creature floating around in the giant storms of a Jupiter-esque planet* Heh...sounds cool to me.

Giant living jellyfish balloons.
I want one.

The problem would be that there would be no where to place your buddble city. If you place it in the gas would the gigantic gravity of jupiter simply let it fall to the extreme hot and compact liquid core of jupiter where the extreme pressure would eventually let it implode. Even if you can somehow let it float(would be very hard because the gravity of jupiter is gigantic) would the immense gravity of jupiter kill all creatures in it and I even don't know what the gigantic magnetic field of jupiter would do to your population. Living with very little gravity might be doable but living with an insane high gravity seems me a very hard thing to do.
The gravity of jupiter is so gigantic that on the moon IO the constant fluctuation of gravily makes the planets so warm and so instable that the moon IO has quite contant vulcanic erruptions.
I think that only species who evolved on gas planets and are build for gas planets could live on them but that is most likley beyond the scope of the initial release.

I'm in agreement with Kolpo, it would have too many complications in my mind.

The surface activity of Io is partially due to the other satellites of Jupiter but I digress. Many of the creatures I can imagine living in such a (relatively) extreem environment would
use
many of a gas giant's attributes such as immense magnetic fields as souces of energy (read David Brin's "Sundiver" for 'magnetovores' in the upper atmosphere of the sun!).
I do agree that it's probably out of the scope of the initial release but I'd be sure of seeing it in an expansion

Taking things even farther back, how would we be able to evolve from the primordial soup if we're on a gas planet?
All obscure theories welcomed and encouraged.

The planet was once liquid and becauise of
global
universal warming, it turned into gas.

Hmm... we really shouldn't make a habbit of this.

Makes you wonder how to evolve a lifeform from water to air/gas, and skip the land part.

Well, the first micro-organisms would simply inhabit denser/sparser gas structures that get moved around the planet (slowly) by all the high winds.

Interesting. After I read that I tried to think of living animals that are born in water and grow to live in air. After a bit mosquitos came to mind. Boy I hope I can make a giant mosquito. I'd enslave my entire gas planet and use all the other species for sustenance. BWAHAHAHA!!!

I think that there is a cool word for a planet of hydrogen with many satellites..... star?

Well, presumable if Jupiter was about 30% more massive it would become a star.
(and Earth would be ******)
