I prefer the Shotgun and Sniper Rifle in 2 over 1. And global cooldowns rather than long cooldowns per power. Thats it though gameplay wise. I still think 2 > 1

There's always plenty of ammo around, I never seem to run out, except for my heavy weaponry.

The story and character management was better in the first. The gameplay and pacing was better in the second.

According to the "internet" (as if that's real), to have everyone survive the final mission you have to do the following

Choose Tali/legion for the specialist (as long as they're loyal) and choose Garrus/Jacob/Miranda for the squad leader, a loyall squad member for the escort, Samara/Jack for the biotic and your final squad needs to all be loyal

Not true.

I used Legion for the specialist on the first part of the mission, he died even though he was loyal. Though admittedly I did choose the riskier 'crawl through the vents and hack the doors' plan. What annoyed me slightly is that he didn't die while actually doing his assigned mission.

Anyhoo. Completed it just now. That save file will now be laid to slumber until ME3 comes out. I will not insult the noble sacrifices of Mordin and Legion by savescumming for a perfect ending!
But thats just the way I want to play it. My second playthrough will probably be the one where I play around with possibilities and what have you, but I feel like seeing through Sam Shepard's story in one long run, I've grown quite attached to that gaunt, big-nosed ginger-goatee'd face

How on Earth did I manage this with nobody dieing on the first try?  I thought it was fairly common for them all to survive, but apparently not.

The only thing I did wrong was send Thane through the vents, which was a mistake on my part anyways.

I found it be fairly easy to have everyone survive, actually.
