I left it upgrade overnight, it's a really easy process. When I got into 7 it still had my desktop background and all the shortcuts in the right places. It even installed a missing driver (my computer had previously been refusing to install it).

Wish mine was as simple :\

My shiny new formatted HDD has Windows 7 on it and I must say it is rather nifty.

I've been waiting for my monitor to die (19 inch CTR). When it does I'll probably grab one of those new touch screen ones and upgrade to Windows 7.  ;D

Touch screens are quite expensive  :o
Why would you get Windows 7 with a touchscreen and not just now with the normal monitor?

I have three questions about windows 7.

1. How buggy, is it? ( i tested the RC on a friends Pc and it seemed fine, But has anything arose lately ?)

2. can i keep my old files?

3. Is it worth it?

If yes should i duel boot with vista and W7 or just keep W7 and scrap vista

1) I've been using the Windows 7 RC for the last umm, at least 3 months.  It's pretty great.  Far better, in my opinion, than Vista.  Have had very few problems with it (none come to mind actually).  Just upgraded to Windows 7 Professional tonight and it's running great.

2) What do you mean by "files"?  I'll assume you mean word documents, and save games.  Just back up that stuff up to cds/dvds or an external hard drive.

3) Depends on what you're using now, I think.  I only paid $30 for my copy so it was totally worth it for me.

I'd say scrap Vista

By the way, if you have a college .edu address (or have friend with one.  I used my girlfriend's address) you can get Windows 7 Home or Pro for just $30 here.

Sadly no 30$ W7 for me ;( and i read somewhere that if you upgrade from Vista to W7 it saves all your files, basically everything in C;// or whatever drive and puts them in a folder called Old.files then you can reload them. However some people are saying they are losing there stuff, so i dont know. I have backed up most of my stuff but not all of it, 400GB of stuff is kinda hard to back up in any reasonable amount of time TBQH.

If you have vista and a copy of 7 you might be able to simply upgrade. This doesn't even move your files it just keeps them in the same place so all the programs and files are just where they were. You can only upgrade if your editions of the two OSes match up on the following chart.

Otherwise, you will have the option of moving all your files to windows.old.

So custom Install moves them, straight up upgrade leaves everything as normal ?

I've seen them as low as $300, any way Windows 7 was made to be touched. Touch it!

Perhaps if you have Vista... All I know is that i did custom install and it formatted XP/HDD.

If you have Vista why not just upgrade?
