but you'd have to give them a massive nudge in the right direction to set them in orbit, it'd do major damage to your ship. unless of course if you could build massive rockets onto your planet and use it as a ....war-world

Death Star!

It was probably like what Mr. Themhpe said, some cameras try and white-balance when lighting conditions change, and it probably white-balanced improperly and gave everything a green hue... or tint, I'm not really hip with color terminology.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to start all over if you really want to, and move back and forth and such.

That might have just been something for a demonstration, though. Since everything is probably procedurally generated, I wouldn't be suprised to find out about some sort of texture editor that starts with basic types (say, the wood from the boat) and lets you mess with it more and get it the way you like. Judging from what Wright's ninja programmers have done so far, I wouldn't think that would be out of reach at all.

Oh, and about the screenshot posted 10+ pages back, the second-to last icon looks a LOT like some sort of mason's tool, maybe for shaping the "clay of life?"

I'll probably design some sort of stormtrooper, complete with plastic-like feet and opposable blaster rifles. If not, plan B involves enormous slug creatures with thousands of arms.

Try out E.V.O., it's a really neat game for the SNES. I don't know where you could actually BUY it, but you can always get the, ahem, ROM. It doesn't exactly offer as many choices as Spore, but it's really good for its time.
