Console Games / Re: The Smash Tournament Thread - World Special!

So a little off topic from this specific tournament...but does anybody know where I can go to get information on some official Brawl tournaments? I've never really faced too many other serious players, so I have no idea how I'd stack up or like how I'd rank in a tournament. Do they have pretty regular tournaments for Brawl? I've heard it hasn't been as popular on the tournament level as Melee was, but I'm guessing they still happen at least once in a while. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, and let's get our little tourney rollin!

Thanks for the Planet Elder Scrolls link, Pat! Read up on a lot of good ones I think will make the game just that much more enjoyable...

PC Games / Oblivion PC mods
« on: October 16, 2008, 05:24:09 pm »
So I picked up Oblivion and once again have begun the journey to close shut the jaws of Oblivion (mostly just cuz waiting for Fallout3 has me in an RPG mood). I completely forgot how awesome this game is! But I'm thinking about getting it for the PC, so I can use the construction set and so I can try out all the player mods floating around out there.

Question: where's the best place to find player mods? and what are some of the best ones out there?

So I finally got the demo last night...I guess I really liked it. Most surprising was that it actually worked. A lot of what they wanted to accomplish didn't seem as though it would translate well into actual gameplay...but for the most part it did. The graphics were pretty...the cutscene was neat. I liked The Apprentice's expression when Vader told him to kill everybody  :o ...I liked all the force powers well enough, but I was hoping to see more of the "combining of powers" that they referred to. There's a lot of combos I guess, but it doesn't quite live up to my personal hype. The force throw one is obviously the coolest...but what a total letdown after trying to grab a flying TIE Fighter out of the sky for the last hour...doesn't work  >:(

All in all I liked it; gameplay reminded me a WHOLE lot of PsiOps, especially the first throw.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna buy it or rent it...

I'm like the burn victim they'll show in an advertisement about remembering to change the batteries in your smoke detector; you don't want to be me!

So how long does it usually take the new game demos to "go silver?"

Damn! I can't download the demo yet with my stupid Silver account. It's for the Elite High Roller Goldies only...

Haha sorry my first post in like 3 months was a flame...

But for real, the obvious intent of Limeade's remarks was to mock. I know because I'm just as big of a Dbag to other people, and that's exactly the kind of thing I'd say if I wanted to register an account on a VG Forum and poke fun.

It was kinda funny, though...

I have to say, this electronic game has captivated me in ways that have not been done since I first laid eyes of a moving picture, questioning, "How is that possible, Momma? How do the people move inside the screen?". I remember that moment vividly, my mother put her hand through my flowing blonde hair and chuckled. In the years to come I would of course come to learn the truth of motion video and how it works, but at that time it was magical.

On the subject of this "Star Wars" game, I enjoyed the style with which the "power-ups" were portrayed. Colorful pyramids, floating in nothingness. It makes one start to believe that they are not physical objects at all, but delusions portrayed in the mind of the protagonist. By reaching something that was before a mental or emotional block, the character portrayed may, for a limited time, surpass what they are normally capable of. Using a fictional setting like the "Star Wars" universe to tell players of this hidden potential within all of us is obviously the work of a genius not seen since the days of Einstein and Edison.

You're an ass...

But anyways...I've been hearing conflicting statements all over the internet, especially on the Joystiq/Kotaku threads. Stuff like the targeting system and how the Force bar is affecting game play. The lightsabers are like baseball bats. This board seems to be more positive...So I'm pumped to try it out for myself. One question: How does the toned down violence affect your guys' immersion? I'm still worried about what it's going to feel like the first time I hack some guy with my saber...

Ha ha such a long post for nought...they were good ideas though

I really dig it, but I think with a few more parts and textures it could open up many more possibilities as to the variety of creatures available (i.e. some more mammal face parts and fur textures, and something like a skull add-on to make realistic humanoids)

Spore: General / Re: Anyone else a little disappointed by the CC?

The more I use the CC, the more I love it. Can't wait to try out my dudes in the game...I haven't done a lot of research so I'm sorry if this is well known, but is the CC pretty much what they're planning on putting in the game? Or do they have a lot more features that just aren't in the CC? I bought the full version, btw...

And two gripes I have about it (even though it's my favorite "game" right now):

1. It's near impossible to make humanoid creatures. Sure, you can have a bipedal with two arms, but nothing that closely resembles a person. I think the problem arises from the head part of the creature, where instead of a skull all you have is an inflated vertebrae. I'm the last person who wants to see the Spore universe spammed full of "variations on the theme of human," but I really want to create a realistic Zombie race.
2. On the opposite end of the spectrum from zombies, I also find it nigh impossible to make cuddly, cutesy animals, or as somebody else put it, your standard woodland creature. There's not enough mammalian parts and textures in the program to make a star-faring race of kittens.

I know a lot of people have been saying you can achieve a lot of things by fiddling around with what's given to you, but I think it would be more fun if they gave you some more parts (i.e. a skull, fur textures, kitty whiskers, a human mouth that doesn't protrude) instead of forcing you to mess around to achieve the same effect. I think the fun in the game comes from being able to make whatever you want, not messing around with body parts that are completely different and coming up with something that vaguely resembles what you wanted.

But definitely will be logging in many an hour on the CC for the next few weeks...
