Forests most likely depend on whether objects need bufferzones or not.....as with the mating prozess (or the less important hand-through-body-editor-videos ::) ) obviously they didn't, but that might be changed....
one part of the definition of a forest is, that there are many different (floral) species in a small area at once, including giant species carrying other (thinking of trees)

Maybe I'm a Newb here, but not in real life ;)

So what I think forests are way to hard to realize....maybe even harder than ringworlds and stuff

so: not in, but replaced by nearby-standalone-trees

Wouldn't this have been a better thread? That's the second thread I got when I searched for 'Forest'.

It seems like you just wanted to bring back a very old thread, as there are newer threads that are more specialized on the topic of forests.  :-\  But I will give you the benefit of the doubt for now.
