Yeah.

I guess it comes with the territory when the election is to install a dictator.

"You can't just call for a referendum whenever you want, Sturgeon." *Calls for election three years early.*

Anyway Labour are such a joke that I guess we really are going to be reduced to a two-party state and then two, one-party states.

Well come on, a general election isn't the same thing as an independence referendum. You'd have to be some sort of Canary-tier left-populist dingdong to genuinely think this constitutes hypocrisy. (For the record, obviously Theresa May IS a hypocrite but not because she's calling an election).

A bunch of people: "Buh Theresa May became Prime Minister without anyone voting for her"

You would hope a different bunch of people but possibly some or all of the same people: "BUUUUH Theresa May can't call an election!!!"

This is definitely all about Brexit, right?  Is it trying to strengthen her position to push forward on Brexit, or an attempt to hit the brakes?
Probably not a Goat, either.

I guess from that perspective it's win-win for her, right?

Either the Tories win, with the implicit mandate to push forward with what ever Red, White and Blue Hard-On MegaBrexit they want to cook up, or the Tories lose* and I guess she can be the Prime Minister we deserve, but not the one we need right now and fall on her sword to stop the whole thing happening in the most bizzarely machievellian political act in British electoral history**.

*This won't happen

It's about having a vote when labour are as dead as possible.

A wise Surface to Air Missile once said about marrying 9 year olds in Saudi Arabia "Its pretty hard to tell if a 9 year old is going to be hot when she grows up, kids change a lot, usually, seems like a bad system. That cute little nine year old you married could end being a fat, zitty teenager."

Yeah also that.

There's no jam home-made enough to get Jeremy out of the metaphorical jam he's got himself into.

The politician 21 posted is... Alex Salmond?  He looks like a baby doll where one of the eyes has gone off balance and stays shut.

One of the weirdest things to me about Parliamentary systems, maybe just governments other than the US, is how you'll call elections whenever you feel like it instead of them being on a set schedule.

Right but on the other hand because of your scheduel the process lasts 2 years where here we're getting it over and done with in less than 2 months.

Yes that's fishperson #1.

One of the things the Lib Dems were supposed to do in their coalition with the Conservatives was get the elections on a more fixed schedule every five years. They passed legislation to do this but did a crap job and Theresa can just dump it (much like their entire party got dumped).

Well come on, a general election isn't the same thing as an independence referendum.

Yeah, independence referendums have higher turnout.
