Yeah. Farmers tend to have a lot of cash. Not every farmer. But most. There just a other arm of big business in many cases. At least here in the west where there is almost no subsistence farming.

(Though one should be careful about mixing up rural population with farmers.)

But I might be generalizing to much. Though I do know there is a far bit of farmers that are on the extremist right here in Sweden. And they tend to be the rich kind.

If anything you should be worried that the Russians might have stuff on the Republicans. That is actually a good way to blackmail people. And has been used before. You leak the stuff you have on someone competitor. Then you go and tell the other guy that they could be next if they do not play ball.

Are Republicans crooks? Yes. Are Democrats? Yes. But that does not make Russians angels ether.

And like Sam pointed out. Two wrongs does not make a right. That others behave bad does not excuse Russia.

(Note that I know there good Republican and Democrats to. Just there are a bit to many of the bad kind to my liking in American politics.)

I feel the view that is ether good for Europe or is good for you Nation is a bad view. First of all the EU needs is member states to be strong. And there is the aspects that two can benefit from a trade and cooperation. It is not some zero sum game.

There several cases when you may want to abandon a colony. Easing border tension is one. Maybe you want to create a no man's land between you and a other empire. Maybe one of the planets was a conquered one and vasalization is not the best option. Maybe it is a tomb world you inherited (or accentually colonized) and you do not want to piss off you religious pop or a religious empire. Maybe you want to make you empire more lean and focus more on building tall avoiding those low pop planets. Maybe you want to avoid the planet falling in the the wrong hands. (This last situation however must be tempered with the fact that you can not instantly abandon a planet. You can already gift the planet to someone else to avoid that it falls in rival already. And that is instant.)

These are some of the situations I have come by when I play where abandoning a colony have made sense.

More likely that if he says something good or do something good that is just happens by mistake. The overall theme seem to be that he just do stuff for him self.

Though one wonders sometimes. Wonders if Donald has some sort of split personality. Because sometimes thing slip out that is goes against everything he normally says and does. Like who can forget the gem where he criticize unintentionally the wall project by simply saying... Well it could be defeated by a ladder and a rope. Paraphrasing of course.

Maybe it is not slip-ups. Maybe he is just insane. >_>

would still be nice if you could abandon colonies however. At least with some ethic structures this should be a option.

Is it me or is it very common for nations to be coloured the same way on maps? I mean England tend to be red and French is Blue and Japan is often yellow. Or am I just imagining things?

Also to give an example of how potential murkiness can slip in. On the tradition/progress axis you have questions like "immigrants should be required to assimilate to our culture". On the face of it the "progressive" answer is to say no, how dare you force people to give up their culture. But then what if those immigrants happen to come from some sort hypothetical scifi society of patriarchal religious fundamentalists who force women to live in bags and cut the clitoris off young girls? Not insisting that they adopt western values would actually be counter-progressive. If such a ridiculous thing could happen in real life, which obviously it can't. ___________

Oh yes. The whole issue with integration vs assimilation.

On top of that I think there is a sort of post-modernist thinking here that creeps in. That everything is equally false. Well I do not ascribe to that notion and I do think morality do have a place. That there are ways that are superior to others. I do think that migrants should adapt to the culture they migrate to. Well at least if is a culture I think people should replicate. So when you do join a "Western culture" you should start to value Pluralism and Democracy. That all people have equal value. No matter what gender you have. Now what folk art or music you like does not matter really. As long as you actually try to adapt there moral norms. And we should also be ready to evaluate other cultures ideas to. I mean our ways of mass consumerism is not the greatest values to hold on to.

But we need to be actually open to discuss cultural values. And by that we also must be willing to critique them. Including our own cultural values. I mean you want to be believe what is right, right? And if we think that certain aspects of our culture is more right then other cultural ideas then we should not be afraid of critique towards our social values. And if we do happen to be wrong then we should be happy that we where corrected.

I feel that most who are the ones defending cultural values right now, at least the most vocals ones, are also the ones that do not represent my cultural values. I whom value Pluralism and Democracy do not like it when when the extreme right try to remove those parts of my culture and at the same claiming there defending my culture. Yet a lot of the people who do hold the same cultural values as me are to afraid to actually discuss them.

But then again not everyone is afraid to stand up for there cultural values on the left. It is often not as dark as people think.

Well I am done ranting...

OK I have not watch the video (yet) but I will give you a quick reply. Even the "Hitler Salute" is not racist depending on the context. People do not have a monopoly on defining the meaning of words. And what is OK in one situation might be bad form in a other. As always is about paying respects and trying to learn local customs. And western cultures are far from cultures full of taboos. But yeah it seems like some want to make it such just because I do not know.

Well do not let people appropriate part of you culture I say. So your a American so you two have a say what goes in to American culture. It is not up to a small minority to decide this. There are no handbook on this. Just one guideline. Be respectful. Or as some put it. Don't be a dick. And this is why I actually dislike both camps of all this SJW crap. There both trying to be dick's towards each other.

Well one of them is a puppet of Russian corporations so it sort of does matter because despite all the liberal handwringing Russia is still much more unprincipled and vastly more illiberal than any of the western powers.

Yeah Sam very much right on this. National Front has connections with Russian and is not secret. And while I do not think we should always see Russia as the big bad in a lot of cases there is actually a reason to view them with great suspicion.

The whole thing of Russia supporting extremist in Europe seem to be based on the notion of destabilizing the EU so that Russia gain more influence in the geopolitical area.
