Editor representation: E3 Video & Screenshot Disjunct
« on: May 11, 2006, 12:57:24 am »
A particular thing I noticed as I was watching the IGN/GameSpy recording of the E3 video was the discrepancy between what we could see of the editor in that video, and the screenshots we saw of it earlies (see aquaman's thread for that).

In particular, the video shows seven meters to the right whereas the screenshot only shows five. (It also says Strength where the video say Power, but that is just a semantic thing.) The two additional meters are called, from what I can decipher, "Sense" and "Special". The former is pretty straightforward, but the latter might be of interest for those that have been calling for special abilities. ;)

Does it say that? Even the WMV version is so blurry I can't make it out, but my eyeshight's been going bad at a horrendous pace anyway.  :D

Well, even if it doesn't say special, there's still the difference to explain. Which do you think is the (more) final version?

Not 100% sure if it says Social but it seems to make more sense.
It would show how much the creature sticks to herds or goes out on it's own.
Would also effect the tribal and civ stages quite a lot.

Its definitely social even on the .mov version.  I think its a more final version of the editor.  Afterall they will want to display their most current work at E3 not something outdated when possible.

I seem to recall that when Will added hands onto his creature the social bar went up.

Hand-gestures, perhaps?

Yeah, the 'social' raises as the creatures now have the potential to form crude hand gestures, such as waving, pointing, handshakes and a million other concepts completely alien to ourselves.
