I know it's kind of a late reaction, but...

Congrats on your seventh year, guys!  :)

So the Sagan 4 forum is down for a few days now. We are waiting on LadyM to find out what is wrong. In the meantime I wanted to use this thread for Sagan 4 discussion again until the forum gets back up.

Haha, this is what I get for trying to come back on! XD

Of course, current manager won't let anyone in the office (even when he isn't there) so currently no access to a scanner for drawing... but I could try to go back to my MS Paint style..?

Beyond that I've been spriting my own stuff lately in a nice, simple style, and have started spriting my old Sagan species, partially for the heck of it and partially because I have for years planned on doing everything I've ever come up with in the same style, and this seems like the easiest way to do that, ha.  Here's my Beach Shrotter, for example:

I heard people had trouble registering here so I made a topic in the speculative biology reddit.

Update: One problem is that the disc usage was maxed out so I had to upgrade and BUY more space. I no longer want to host and pay for this project so after this problem is fixed I'll be moving ownership over to Hydro.

I put a support ticket in to the host and hopefully they can identify the problem. Maybe it'll take some time for the disc space to be recognized. It's hard to believe this is still going for almost 10 years.

LadyM was able to get the forum back up. I am no sure for how long, so lets get those approved species to to the wiki while we have the chance.

I've been playing around with rigging and animation during my study abroad experience in Chicago (I'm returning to Brazil in August). For the final project in Advanced 3D Rigging we had to create a beast of burden, so I decided to model, rig and animate something based on my bubblehorns from Sagan 4. I combined a bunch of features of many of them and added some extra details in order to make it look like something you can ride in, like the seat on the shell. It took days to create the controls for each individual branch and mouth pieces in Maya, but I'm very pleased with the result.

I hope you enjoy! :)

What is the benefit of having a creature with those prehensile branches tamed or domesticated?

Maybe it can pick things up?  Maybe it looks cool?
Probably not a Goat, either.

More like it can smack whoever is riding it.

Maybe the rider is into that sort of thing.
Probably not a Goat, either.

I noticed there has not been an update posted since before the Limbo. Here's a summary of events:

- In 2017, LadyM left and the Sagan 4 forum and wiki went down. Though a backup of the wiki was made, it was supposedly too corrupted to recover, and the last backup before that was made in 2011 and only went through Week 23. A backup of the forum was also apparently made, but it is lost. Sagan 4 moved to the Speculative Evolution forum.
- Throughout 2017 and possibly into 2018, Mnidjm attempted to recover data and hosted a backup wiki, but this eventually went down and contact with Mnidjm was lost. Sagan 4 became lost media.
- During 2018 and early 2019, an attempt to restart Sagan 4 at Generation 54--the last generation to occur here on Gamingsteve--was made. However, this fell apart quickly due to nearly all artwork being missing.
- In August 2019, using a YouTube video Hydromancerx had uploaded with the artwork of all Week 1 species, members Bufforpington, BlackTalon, Vailnoff, RyanKoopa, and Coolsteph founded "Sagan 4 Beta", a reboot which split after the first mass extinction event. This is where I entered, becoming the first new member to join Sagan 4 since before the Limbo. (Sagan Bot, a discord bot for browsing organisms developed by non-member Squidy and hosted by myself, was also born)
- Sometime in late 2019, Mnidjm's backup wiki mysteriously went back up. However, it vanished within days and contact with him was never made.
- Shortly afterwards, I started doing some digging and found the Week 26 backup, and with help from non-member Squidy, all species descriptions through Week 26 were found intact in plain text inside.
- In early 2020, contact was made with Mnidjm and I informed him of the data recovery. Throughout the first few months of the year, work was done to bring back the original Sagan 4, now dubbed "Sagan 4 Alpha". It was randomly discovered that there was an open slot in generation 160 (the project was already into late gen 161), which I filled with the first new submission of its revival.
- A new Sagan 4 forum was made and Sagan 4 Alpha was reopened. Members wanted to continue Beta as well, so both timelines have continued since.
- Earlier this year (2021), Sagan 4 Beta was moved off of the Speculative Evolution forum and on to the new Sagan 4 forum, bringing the Alpha and Beta communities together.

In short, after some hardships, Sagan 4 is still alive and it even had a baby! Here are the current links:
