Title: The Heavy Petting Rodomontade Topic: Wherin are recorded anecdotes of ribaldry
Post by: eropS on September 22, 2013, 08:28:34 pm
So rather than continue to treat the off topic - topic as a place to share my weekly stories (should there be any), I think a dedicated thread would be more inviting.

The basis of this thread is to just share any sort of interesting event that is taking place with you right now or last week or whenever. Current events are much more fun since our input (if we have any, not that you care what we say at the end of the day (that's the fun!)) would be more relevant and maybe helpful.

That's it I guess. If you did something interesting, have some reoccurring life drama that's not a real problem (see: Personal Problems thread), partied hard and have a story from last night, went to some show and had an epiphany, met a cure girl and landed a date, went to a fun improv show after party, saw this waitress at a restaurant you frequent at an electronic show and danced with her, etc.

I mean most of us are pretty young so there's still stories to be had at some point, so why not share them with us as they happen? Advice is cool, but not required since that's not the point of this thread.

Social lives?  Who do you think we are?

I finally found some people to watch ufc fights with in this town.  While watching the fights last night one of the guys somehow shattered a pint of beer just by bumping into it.  Dude's a freaking giant, good thing he's so happy all the time.

Before they got there I was sitting at the bar and overheard this girl who I assume was on a first date, talking about all the jerks and creeps who had flirted with her or tried to date her.  She was talking loud and it was a boring fight, I couldn't help it.  I hope the dude she was with knows what he's getting himself into.

I have realistic expectations for this thread I don't expect it to be bumped often haha.

Sounds like the big guy should compete...

I lived life on the edge yesterday and parked without a valid permit at my old university. It was a weekend and the lot was almost entirely empty, but there was some pretty menacing language on the school's website about parking violations so it could have gone either way. Crazy stuff.

I also brought cookies to the people I was visiting, so that was a nice experience. Got to eat some cider and doughnuts as well.

The few girls who I hang out with and who like me are slowly turning into lesbians. I'm slowly losing my tiny future dating pool.

However, I ate a donut with bacon inside it, so that's pretty cool.

Oh man, tell me about it. Out of the four people I've ever considered dateable, two are sexually incompatible with me. It sucks.

I don't want to sound like one of those old people that dismisses everything kids do but people don't generally 'become' gay. While the actual problems kids have are often wrongly dismissed as 'just a phase', well, sometimes it really is just a phase.

Went to learn Blues dancing yesterday (as per swing club suggestion). Definitely one of my favorites, dance is fire man.

Also Sam i guess we've technically been learning 'East Coast'? And we start Lindy Hop next week for the rest of the semester I'm thinking since they say that's our 'end game'.

Going to a birthday party where I know a single person as mostly a distant friend. Met her on the London trip and have seen her 3 times since haha. She has a boyfriend so she's off my radar in that regard. Foreseeable problems include the fact I'm 20 and if they decide to go to a bar that is too harsh on IDs I might be SoL. We'll see how the night goes but I'm fairly excited. Woo

Nope, early audible and they cancelled the initial party and were already at a venue I could not get in to; chillin with the roommates instead.

Next weekend is my birthday though so hopefully I'll have something interesting to talk about then.

I suppose this counts as a curious outing. My fiance and I (I probably should have also mentioned I got engaged; if I remember to upload the engagement photos I think you guys will enjoy them. But I digress) decided to start walking/jogging. There's a road super close to my house, maybe a few hundred feet away (my bus stop was actually on this road for a while), that we decided to walk down. This road is in the opposite direction from the center of town and everything, so even though it's close we never really have reason to go by it. So, first thing we notice is that it's blocked off by big rocks, maybe 2-3 feet high. As we continue down, we begin to notice the following: all houses gone, burned down (you could tell from the ash); broken and hanging telephone wires; an old half-submerged dock (the road runs alongside a pond) and an abandoned shed; and a small (maybe 10 graves) historical graveyard. The road's pretty short and had a dead end. It was super weird and creepy. I really wanna make a movie there (we make short movies; I'll post a link to those too if I remember)...

It drove me crazy, when I tried looking up more about the road all I could tell were that people had lived there at least as of 2012. After some more searching we finally found out what happened there but it was super disappointing. Apparently all the houses on that road were owned by a company that leased them to people. Apparently, being on the water, upkeep cost more than it was worth to lease the houses, so when the leases were up they just demolished them all.

So apparently I dodged a bullet last night. I was being friendly with this lady in the Union bar and we decide, in that way drunk people do, to go to her halls, which was quite a trek. Then a load of miscommunication happen, I find her in bed with this guy (fully clothed, they were just talking, at least while I was there). Then my friend rings, tells me he's out on the main road and I make my way home.

So I'm in Media Research and I'm in a group with two of the guys I was out with. And we're talking about the night before, one guy all like 'oh this girl was all interested in [Haseri]' (not that I really noticed - I was interested at the time, but had no idea if it was reciprocated, being as dense as I am to body language). I, being quite the cognisant inebriate, could remember the lady's name. Then the fourth guy in the group asks about her. He lives in the same halls as her, and he thinks it could be the crazy person that goes into unlocked houses (these halls are a bunch of houses) and writes 'It's OK, I'm just making sure you're safe' or words to that effect on their whiteboards.

And she's only been 18 for 2 months.

It's a minefield being old enough to be a masters student.

Well she's younger than my second brother and younger than a girl I tried to ask out last year (she was 17 at the time, but worked behind the bar - didn't pour drinks. I've always held she didn't say no, just that she couldn't go out for drinks). I don't know, maybe I am worrying too much.

About the crazy, eh, I've known crazy. It could be I never run into her again. Or I could, and I'll have another part of the story. Unless she kills me or something. I'm going out with that same group for a birthday weekend kind of thing (could have gone out with them last night, but they went to a club I would not want to pay for again, so I went to the pub and had very nice Swedish cider poured by a cute Glaswegian barmaid and talked about nerdy things with drama society), so I may have something new.

I've got two slightly less interesting stories, but I like to boast. Not that there's much to boast about.

It's the night before I leave for uni, and I've 'planned' a night out with my friends. First I go see my last show at the Old Vic, a dance show that did interesting things with memory. Then we move onto this pizza pub and get invited upstairs to where the Old Vic people are saying goodbye to the Outreach director. At one point this guy his next to me, doing the classic 'put up ya dukes' boxing stance. Naturally, I join in, and we playfully, drunkenly wrestle for a little bit before I concede. It was because I was standing in the way for him to sit down. The next day, I'm on Facebook, and my friend took a photograph. And knew I was wrestling with the director of the show I'd just seen. That was a surprise.

Anyway, the main thrust of this story is, we were supposed to try and get to this club before midnight so we didn't have to pay. My friends being flaky arty people, we don't. But it gives me time to say goodbye to some of the Old Vic people, get some life affirming replies, all that jazz. Then we finally start off at around god knows when, but too late to get in for free.

But it was worth it. First of all, it was a DJ who knew what he was doing, not just playing songs. Second, this happened. So I'm doing my approximation of dancing, drink in hand. And I notice this lady keeps looking at me. She does this several times before she finally talks to me (like I said, I am terrible at reading people). We get to know each other, by shouting over the music and start dancing together. Now, to skip to the end, the most that happens is we hold hands throughout the night, I kiss her on the cheek and dance closely, but then the place was packed. This was because she was sort of seeing someone*, someone she had hoped to meet that night, but couldn't find, so she attached herself to me. Not that I minded, it was more than I expected for my last night. My friends tried to help - we were dancing a little away from them and every time I looked over, they would be egging me on. But I didn't push anything, because that's not me, and it's not what she wanted, and the night ended with me escorting her back to her halls (it was her first week of a local uni). Then I got my friend, in his mixture of being drunk and high, on my shoulder, waxing philosophical about relationships. And my other friend, who was saying how much braver I was than she, which is what she always does when I ask someone out. The grand total of twice over the last year, the aforementioned front of house lady and a old school friend who was rehearsing a show (she was seeing someone*, so we just got food and sat down in the park and talked).

The second story is shorter. Basically it's my first night in York, so we all go out. We get bored with Student Union so we look for a pub. By we, I mean myself, a flat mate and her twin and my goth flatmate. Now, this goth flatmate didn't eat much, so after the amount shots we shared, she's pretty drunk, and I'm not sober either. And we kiss. Twice. Quick pecks on the lips mind you, but, more than I've ever expected. And, she, admittedly drunkenly, said if she didn't have a boyfriend*, she'd go out with me. Then the next morning, it was all drunk talk that she couldn't really remember.

A good start to the year, I think.

*notice a running theme? I think fate likes toying with me.

Fencing's pretty cool Kish.

Everyone starts on foil. It was developed as a training weapon and has no approximation in any real weapons which were used historically in battles or duels. (Obviously sabres were widely used by cavalry and the epee is basically a rapier, which was the generally favoured duelling weapon in much of Europe for a while).

The name foil derives from the thing they put over the tip of the sword so they wouldn't stab each other during practise. This is also why in foil the only valid target area is the torso, whereas sabre and epee allow the entire upper body and the whole body respectively.

Psh the crazy thing is a rumor; unless someone verifies she is the intruder I'd write it off. Hope it works out favorably for you either way.

Also Haseri both those stories are fun; props to you for respecting the goalie. I like to think I would ever since I messed around with a taken girl back in high school but I'm not entirely sure how true I'd be to that if I was in a different state of mind.

Fun stories though sounds like you're having a good time being back which is cool.

Talked to that freshman from Tuesday and I'll be seeing her next week. Uhm tonight let's see had my brother come up and he and a bunch of us went to a club. Still the happiest I've been in a long time. And I won her over with words, not dancing.

Best is my flatmate's barely masked jealousy. The only reason I can guess at for her attempted barbs at the whole situation. Oh well, the other one will probably be more happy for me when she get home. Who knows what the Ukrainian thinks...

I don't mind competing males, because my sweetness has won her over. She'd date me, if I was the dating type. >.>

But the question is, how do I approach her? Because I just don't know how to be suave with the girls I care about.

There's a personal problem discussion thread already. This isn't an advice thread it's to just share and talk about interesting things happening in your life.

Take her out though. Just ask her with a set time and day and she if she's up for it.

Oh I guess this qualifies (for the original thread topic not the dumb one I changed it to).

Last week I went to the swing dance class that runs in Oxford for the first time and it happened to be when a reporter for a local newspaper was there to cover it for the leisure section.

The camera was really small and ****ty looking. Like just a little hand-held camera like a tourist would have, not a proper journalist camera with a huge lens and whatnot.

Cool! The class any fun?

Funnily enough our class went to see a swing band in Kansas City at this bar in a cinema last night. Just drank and danced with girls either my age, married, or my moms age. Was actually a lot of fun I didn't think people actually did this stuff still.

Saw Calvin Harris in Vegas over the weekend.

Was a fun time, a family friend got us VIP and we ended up posting up on the balcony area looking down on the dancefloor and stage. The floor was sardine tight, most of the women were out of my age range. Talked to a few girls but I mean honestly I was there for the Harris. During the song Sweet Nothing a girl stopped me to complement my dance moves so I mean I was having a good time haha.

Any who that's pretty much all of Vegas I'll divulge

I'm afraid there are no videos of me to show, and I'm not just lying because I'm scared of being embarrassed.

There are a couple of videos where you can see like, the back of my head or one elbow on a crowded dancefloor, but its really not worth the trouble of tracking those down :P

Well I've had some interesting things happen recently.

I've become physically involved with a freshman. I feel like she might be the attached type. She also has come from an abusive relationship, super small town girl, very open minded, dad diagnosed with lung cancer. She hasn't really brought up anything relationship wise but I fear she may make assumptions before too long so as the pit in my stomach consumes me I will talk to her eventually...

Meanwhile, Saturday I met this girl who struck up a conversation about dbz and Pokemon, subjects I'm well versed in. Ended up making it to second base with her that night at her place and got her number, sent her my number saying lets hang out later this week and she responded a couple hours later with confirmation so I will be making plans with her, hopefully, if she's not a flake, this week.

I feel like I'm always being a downer in this thread, but be nice to the freshman, if she's going through all that stuff you said.
Title: Re: The Heavy Petting Rodomontade Topic: Wherin are recorded anecdotes of ribaldry
Post by: eropS on November 11, 2013, 09:38:50 pm
I believe the stuff she says; and I am nice to her. I'm a good person, so I will try to nip any sort of emotional thing in the bud and establish what I want out of our relationship if she brings it up. Not sure that i'm so good I'd bring this up myself, hence my growing ulcer.

Slinky. I didn't opt for a lifestyle change to just bail 4 months in. Second base is tops off.

Well new semester so I'm back at it.

Starting it off alright, went out with my roommate and got the number of a girl who was hanging out with us earlier in the night then got another number from a girl who had complimented my dance moves as I left the bar. Hopefully one of these two turns into something relatively steady, I don't think I'm a huge fan of 'the game' PR whatever; not sure its my cup of tea
