Can you draw? Can you take pictures? Can you write music?
Whatever you can do, tell us about it. Show it to us! We want to see it!
Since the other thread "Any Artists Here?" is off topic and buried, I made a new one.
So post your stuff!
Here is the culmination of two hours standing on the same spot on the boardwalk this weekend.
That is the best one I got. (You will need to open in a new window)
I also got a really great time lapse-series of the whole sunrise.
-
Thats a great photo! I love sunsets. :)
-
Nice picture. Was that from your "Hurricane Party"?
Here is one of a mountain taken from a jet on my way to Anchorage, Alaska earlier this June:

Same trip, as we descended into the clouds, the sun began to set:
I have a lot of other pics like this, as well as lots of aviation pictures, but I'll start with these. :)

Sunrise from Bermuda...I didn't take it though, my mom did.
-
I draw on occasion. Usually on the computer. Or doodling.

-
C14, I also said to show it.
Since you don't want to, I want you to remove those two posts from this topic. Otherwise I am reporting them.
Here, some of you have seen this one already, but I like it. Again, open it in a new window to see it in the proper size.

-
It's like when people write "Art is Dead!" in graffitti style. Ignorance must be bliss.
-
yes you do KS.. ;)
-
I saw a photo of these kids crying
Apparently, the lady who took the pic gave them suckers, then took them away to get a picture of them crying
The point was to show how a kid would react if he knew how bad the world was.
I don't get it, but whatever it's still art

I remember the Joker (Cesar Romero) doing that. I believe it was titled Deceased Albino Bat in a Blizzard or something to that effect.

Thats a great photo! I love sunsets. :)
I prefer a sunrise Sunsets are a dime a dozen at least with the rise you have to make the effort to get up to see it.

I remember that too. It is very befitting of the Joker. That and giving the Mona Lisa a Joker smile ( I dont remember where that is from exactly i just remember the Joker doing it ).

Lucky for you, it was a sunrise.

I stood out there watching all the crazy people walk past me. You know, the ones that are on the boardwalk at 4AM. :D

Actually, I made a mistake. Mine's a sunrise too.
I actually prefer sunsets, because the colors are a lot crazier sometimes.

C'mon guys! Keep showing everyone what you've got!

More to come!

Damn look at the rear on that plane!
I would love some of that action...

Those are some pretty good shots their, although the last one does have some pretty bad red-eye.
-
Were you using a custom brush? I've done that before and I use the path tool with a brush set to fade out slowly, it looks pretty nice!
-
are you a vampire?
-
For one thing thats my sister and second its called photoshop ;D. The picture in the middle is me the other two are my sister.

What tools did you use and what did you set the brush parameters as, if at all?

14 in the pictures, but shes 17 now
-
Good stuff, thanks! I love the pen tool.
-
I don't like the first one. It looks like a cheesy picture from the 90'ies
-
So I don't draw. Oh no. My sister, though, is loving awesome.
Let me see if I can dredge up her deviantart page. Be warned she likes to draw anthropomorphized animals. With wings and stuff. But she is just a girl, I suppose she can't help herself.
-
As long as it isn't mature content.
I don't hate furries, but I despise the pornographic type.

I'll finish it eventually...

Heres my drawling of a kirby person looking at a hand in a hole. I made this on a weekend when the internet and cable went out.

-
Dude, that is just AWESOME!!! ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) :)
-
Glee! Many thanks. I'm no good at perspective or anatomy or anything, so I had to take a picture of myself like that to use as a refference to get the positions of everything right, but everything there was drawn by hand. With a mouse.
I need to get a tablet...
-
I love my tablet, i couldn't live without it.
that is some good work considering you don't have one.
-
... everything there was drawn by hand. With a mouse.
Sweet! ;D That just doubles the awesomeness even more! :)
A tablet will do wonders for your future artworks! :)

anyone like my pic??? i like some good comments :(

Huck, your browser may have cancer.

Yes, but it got better. That means I can see it now.

I finally managed to dig up some of my sister's art.

-
wow...thats nice
-
A little to animish for my taste, but still top notch.
-
My sister likes to do the anime stuff to.
-
Is it just me or does it look a bit like a wolf version of Seriphoph from Final Fantasy?
-
Heh, it does.
Well I'm not crazy about anime ferals, but at least it isn't a furry.
-
Eeewww, furries. Ewwww.
But seriously, that is one awesome piece of artwork.
-
Is it just me or does it look a bit like a wolf version of Seriphoph from Final Fantasy?
Close. Far right.

-
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
-
Nice.
-
i dont like the style but she has some really nice skills
does she do anything with it? or just as a hobby?
-
It's just a hobby now. She really likes to draw though.
And here is a hat:

BURN IT! Too cute! :-\
-
My eye's are melting at the cuteness.

Aw, how cute.
I can never have the confidence of using real markers. You have to be real careful not to bleed over your coloring.

My latest work with mah tablet;

I call it "Blind Man Burning". Nice and simple.
-
Huckbuck that scared the **** outta me.
-
i would call it puzzle demon...but thats just me
-
Nice!
Pretty reminiscent of the Feends. :)
-
That's amazing! :o
-
Thanks :D
And that is not a daemon. It is a man, he stands puzzeled in front of the worlds horrors (the fire). He was blind so he did not see the flames untill they had started to engulf him. I think this can be applied to humans in many cases.
-
That's deep...
-
The Jigsaw peices make me half expect Banjo and Kazooie to appear in to image.
-
(http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z242/Hucklordofbuck/birdcreatcopy.jpg)
That's a birdy thing I painted in a less art'y manner. I think it took to much time to be considered a doodle though.
-
Good stuff, Buck, good stuff.
-
reminds me of oddworld...cool
-
Sweet! ;D
The way you did the overlapping beaks is my favorite part. :)
-
Impressive, takes talent to do drawings like that, for sure.
So, what do you you folks do with your drawings after you are done? File them away? Hang them on the wall?
-
Reminds me of a Kiwi bird oddworld style. :) Or maybe its Nulls avatar affecting my brain and the drawing.

Uh, for what?
-
Probably maths.
-
Probably maths.
Ha, no. It was Global studies i had to compare and contrast Mexico City and Chicago using Capzles, an online slideshow maker, this was my background.
-
Must have given students epileptic attacks.
-
Why?
-
Because the crudely cutout pictures and the bright jarring colors would not do well as a background for a presentation. How would one even read the text?

No, I got it!..... Wait, no I lost it.

I'm a terrible artist, but I wanted to illustrate what happened in my last DnD adventure. I'm pretty pleased with the results.
-
Hand of Crystal god? The Sun exploding? What?
-
Terrible artist? pfft, your skills are actually pretty good.
Is that with pencil or like what? just wondering.
-
Those three are so gonna get owned.
-
Yeah, I drew it with pencil. It's called "The Splinter". It's essentially a giant jagged chunk of rock stuck between the Shadowfell (i.e. mirrored dark world type thing) and the Astral Sea (the realm of the gods).
-
Me and my friends have our own forum, and I've got a metagame rp thread that uses my irl friends who are on that said forum and I thought i'd just copy paste the most recent update here to contribute to ART!.
Directly translated from norwegian.
You pocket the snake, it was strangely enough quite cooperative.

Hmmm, wonder what Veraal posted this time.
*sees huge face outta nowhere*
HOLY SHEET!
*takes a holy sh*t*
-
Pretty cool I guess.
Although for some reason the jaw looks broken as the mouth tilt is off from the face. Then again, it is suppoused to be a zombie vampire type creature.
-
huh, must've been a bit spastic when i drew that line.
Oh well.
-
Awesomeness! All of it!
-
Is it just me, or do i resemble the scout?
..Bonk.
-
a bit
-
Huh.
Well then, MORE PICTUARDS
I GUESS NOT.
Quick drawing.
Blending zero antialiasing with shadows. Basically practising shadowing.
(http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/8545/hand.jpg) (http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hand.jpg)
AHWAT DO YOU ASTHINK
-
AWESOME!
-
It looks like you scribbled black randomly around the hand.
-
I think Veraal tried to achieve lighting from the rear. Could use more smoothing on shading though. The scribbled shadows could give off an undesired texture.
-
Yeah, kinda first timer with realistic shadows.
I'm not sure which way is the best way to illustrate shadows in photoshop, I guess I should just experiment more.
-
Your hand looks dirty. Where has it been?
-
For shadows: don't use the burn/dodge tools, they look like ****. If you have a tablet, find a darker color of what the shadows are on, and draw where the darkest shadows would be, then use the eyedropper tool to get a new "in-between" color and draw that between the dark and light spots, to make blended shadows.
If you don't have a tablet, I would suggest solid shadows, without trying to blend (at least for practice at first).
For where to actually put the shadows, that's harder and mostly just takes practice. Practice shading simple objects, like balls and cones etc to learn how shadows work, then work up from there. Look at other pictures in the same style you want and note how the shadows are drawn in them.
-
Your hand looks dirty. Where has it been?
Not my hand, just googled hand for reference.
Don't use any burn/dodge tools.
I use darken and lighten, and just flip opacity to wherever i want.
-

Shameless advertising that fits to the topic:

-------

I think so, too. Used these tools in my early coloring attempts. :/
Now I'm trying to use "solid shadows" (Until I'm getting a tablet)
-

What program are you using, by the way?
And in any case, your current method looks terrible to put it bluntly. What kind of style are you going for? Blended shadows, solid shadows etc...
-
For shadows: don't use the burn/dodge tools, they look like ****.
Not always. It's all in how you use it.
Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
You shouldn't always rely completely on ony one techinique, but find something that works for you and stick with it.
-
Those are very good, but the burn/dodge tools create a very distinct style that looks very generic, in my eyes. Perhaps it's just a matter of preference.
-
Man, I remember how those two images made me think they were 3D, Martyk! :D
-
Hey everyone! This crazy dude wants 1 Million hand drawn Giraffes by 2011. (http://www.olahelland.net/giraffes/)
They have to be hand drawn (Tablet drawn might be ok.) and you can draw as many giraffes on one drawing as you like. No MSPaint or GIMP, the art work must look as natural as possible.
-
(http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x30/Zeeky64/hangedyerxe.jpg)
This is a rather bloody image of a creature that UFO King doesn't want to post in the CC. It fits the race, as they are more violent than Roman emperors. I think that King should post them already. He's got them fleshed-out beyond belief.
-
Hey! A background Martyk made a year ago that is pretty nifty!
What's that? You have to click a link to go see it since it is big and would stretch the page?

heh.

It definitely represents the drug scene that was at woodstock. Not sure if that was intentional or not.

Totally didn't notice the nipple until I saw this high rez version.

I'm guessing the turret from Portal.
-
It's clearly the starship Enterprise. It's just on its side.
-
Even I saw that.
-
I've never seen the Starship Enterprise.
-
You will now be beaten with whips for this treason. You are not allowed on the internet any longer. Leave. NOW.
-
It's clearly the starship Enterprise. It's just on its side.
Ah, I see it now. It looked like a robot with it's knees pulled up to it's chest for starters.
-
AARGH! TOO MUCH TO REPLY VIA MOBILE PHOOONE!
-
Even I know what the Enterprise looked like but never knew what that drawing was supposed to be either. Plus, it's pointing upward. So it didn't really help.
-
Wow, never thought of it that way, it being the Enterprise...
-
Hmm... I didn't really intend for it to point that steeply up. I wanted it more at a 45 degree angle.
-
It looks like you've un-intentionally made a Rorschak test (or similar).

Not too shabby, I like it. The eyes could be a little bigger though.

I think it's fine. Any bigger and it might look too out-of-place than it already is.

Finally! I spent a day and a half on this... I suck at human faces....

...
No, he no one in real life...
Just a character from an upcoming story of mine...
The one I posted the first chapter of in my story thread...
-
Apart from slightly only slightly oversized eyes, that is incredible! I certainly can't draw a human's face that good!
-
I think the eyes are okay, though a bit bordering on the limit.
The mouth seems a bit to big, but since her's smiling I guess it's okay.
Other than that, it's pretty okay. :)
-
Not too shabby. The mouth and chin could be a little lower down and the indent on the side of the face could easily stretch down as far as the middle of the ear (while remaining just as shallow). Other than that, not too shabby.

There's a lot to say about this... So I'll just copy paste what I posted on DeviantART.
"Alas, old friend
Forgotten you have been not
Your consciousness still brushes mine
deep within
deep within
We'll remember that dream
we once held close
The one that shattered like glass
when held too tight.
We'll remember.
We'll remember.
Your grave lays within my mourning gaze
and within morning's blaze.
I'll always remember that dream
and the fear of waking up.
Of waking dawn.
Of waking dawn.
I've traveled long
I've traveled far,
All to find it was incomplete.
That fading dream that bound you and me,
now rests within my soul
A burden forever.
A burden forever.
Dear friend,
Our bond has not end.
A journey I took
All for that one look
Of soul bonding deem
before I awoke
All of that toll a dream.
Dear god, this brings back thousands of memories...
First of all...
Have you ever had a dream character?
Of course. They exist in every single dream.
Have you had a reoccurring dream character?
Possibly.
What about a dream character who remembers the dream it was in and has stories to tell.... Stories of what they did while you were awake?
Probably not... And it's starting to get creepy...
Now... What about a dream character who begged you to stay longer, and begged you not to wake up, as they didn't want to die or be left to the rest of the dream world?
No. You haven't.
And... What of a dream character who has appeared in over 23 dreams?
Maybe.
Here, my dear friends, is DRASU, a dream character from my early Digimon fangirlism.(Yes, laugh and point at the Digimon nerd)
She appeared once in one of my dreams, where i was on a "quest" for Guilmon. I found him, but she shoved me back, and just then, she was mortally wounded by the other Guilmon.
She's appeared ever since.
I dreamed of her just a while ago... She snagged me away from the action, where I had been on a killing rampage and everyone was trying to get me back. She hid me, and we talked, and she shared adventures of what had happened while I was gone, and how she had struggled to find me. She also told me not to be as reckless, as it may take toll in my later dreams.
Now for a bit of Backstory on this mysterious "Guilmon"...
DRASU is an android(as you can tell) made out of nanobots. She was originally made for working into technological networks and also serving as a body guard to the head of the company.
Imagine their distress when she took the form of a digimon.
So... She can do mostly whatever the hell she wants.
"Look! There's that girl! Get her!"
"Enemy values 23. Initializing code number 72849627462534524..."
"What?"
"Loading... Loading..."
*Arms turn into gun*
"Oh ****."
-Dream conversation(Enemy and DRASU)
So yes... She been protecting me and I've protected her... And she keeps invading my subconscious... Oh yes... And about dying...
ME: *Fear*
"OH MY GOD!"
*Tries to wake up*
DRASU: "Don't wake up... I don't want to die alone here."
ME: ...
DRASU: "Please... I don't want to die alone here while you go on with life... Please don't let me die alone..."
Dear god... She scared the **** out of me... And she's almost always just sitting there and watching me...."
...
Yeah....
-
W... wow.
I... I'm not really sure what to say here.
-
The... the eyes...
THEY STARE INTO YOUR SOUL! NO NO NOOOOOOOOO-
*vaporizes*
-
Interesting dream. I've never had a dream exactly like that, but I have had one dream about the council in my mind. It was weird.

Haven't been drawing very much lately, although I made this a few weeks ago;
The contrast and shading got a bit screwed up by the scanner, but w/e.
-
Another one;
Wanted to try out painting the shading on something round that was hollow, so I drew this bottle by hand and then decided to scan it and give it some color. As allways the scanner butchered the shading though.
-
Reminds of diablo 2 potions, neat though
-
Hmmmm... I would hardly call that round!
You see? You see that... nearly straight line on the upper right edge of the bottle?
Oh, oh boy! You call this round?
Dear, have you got a lot of work to do!
-
Yea I know it's not round, it was very obvious after the scanning. Did seem quite round on paper though. I didn't paint by any type of reference, but I should probably have used something to just get the round shape right... Whatever, let's just say the glass manufacturer was drunk. :P

I've spent most of the day working on this...
It's a character of mine, Yajen, who has multiple personality disorder and can lead a very interesting conversation....
But, basically, this was an attempt to make sort of a painted-in-photoshop picture, and I think it turned out quite well...
-
Awesome! :)
Far more than what I can do, that's for sure! 8)
Just one nitpick, though...
The image is a bit too long in my perspective. Maybe increase its height or
cut out the edges by a wee a bit? :)
PS. And no, I do trust you... ... as long as you're lined up with my handcannon.
-
Holy...
Awesome job. I love the lighting.

If Great Distance reads this, how should I draw shadows on faces without it looking like bollocks?
-
You don't. Faces emit light.
SHEESH
-
Well, she's awfully white.
-
I would actually try to remove colors and do a pure black and white one (No shades of gray)
Just to test it out.
-
Well, you could try drawing with the same brush as the black outlines and hair, just with grey instead of black. Pick out the areas that are vaguely the same shade of grey and then... draw those with the same shade of gray! Try simplifying things a bit at first. Oh, and don't leave the face completely white unless you're going to use a very light grey for the shadows. You can try adding more shades of grey later on, and blending the different shades too, when you get more confident. Or whatever, when you feel like you should. But try making it simple first. Just to see how that works out.
Remember if you try more complicated shading, you'll probably end up having to shade the whole face to match the image as closely as possible. Otherwise it'll just look somewhat off. But with just two or three shades of gray, you should be able to keep it simple, so you won't have to work on the drawing all day long. Just don't try blending the shades because that'll add more shades, and like I said, you might have to try to replicate the image as accurately as possible just to make it look good. Well, I'm not saying blending is something you should never do when you're trying to keep things simple, but it'll probably help at first.
Oh, and it might be good if you don't try shading just some tiny specified areas on the face. If you see that same shade, or even vaguely the same shade somewhere else, you should probably put it there, too. (And as you may be able to figure out, the more different shades you use in those areas, the more different shades you'll have to use everywhere else. So the shading will have to keep getting just more and more complicated.)
-
I'll try that.
Thanks.
-
I set the bear pic as my background lol
-
Excellent.
Exactly why I made it 1440x900.
-
I'll try that.
Thanks.

-
That is awesome.
I have never bothered with tutorials, maybe I'm missing out on something.
-
Well, it's a great tutorial, but I don't see how helpful it is when you're drawing, I assume, greyscale drawings from reference. Well, I guess it'll make you understand what you see better, and the "Flatten and simplify" definitely applies here, too. But I always thought that tutorial was mostly about coloring stuff you made from imagination. It is a good one, though.
Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Well, since the Sculpting topic sort of died last year and I don't feel like necro-bumping a specialty topic again... >_>
(http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu207/XenaBabyGirl1138/MySculptures.png)
((Yes, yes, I know the picture's taken with my computer and it's very low quality ;_;. My camera's out of memory, and I'm missing the USB cord... So nothing can really be done at the moment...)) I tried my skill at sculpting today, using baking clay... The portal cake and Lamar the Headcrab are about one inch tall, while the Pyramid head with the scarf is about... eh, 3 inches tall. I actually put a lot of detail into him, including the stitching on his... tunic... thing. But, sadly, you can't see it in the picture. The portal cake is also very detailed... I used a tutorial I found on DeviantART to make it look fluffy and delicious. I actually spent at least an hour putting on all the little chocolate bits. O.o All in all, I think they turned out pretty well. Except PH's helmet. It looks rounded. And cruddy. Didn't spend too much time on that.
...
......
Hmm. Something tells me to name the PH Jerome. No idea why.
Oh, and I put on the scarf at last minute when I became frustrated with his shoulders and attaching the helmet. ;D

And, don't mind the box. I can't take a picture without my face being captured on camera.

Did a new request today from /v/.
"Gordon Freeman and Garrus fighting a Colossus from SotC"
That's what it is.
I didn't know how to do a full blown combat scene look good because then Gordon and Garrus would probably just be tiny specks, so I just made it seem as bro as possible.
-
I think you should take up painting Veraal. MSPaint can only go so far to make some thing like that look really epic. And you have the basics of coloring down. Learn some advanced lighting while you're at it.
There are a couple of art books that will help you teach yourself. And since you have a tablet, look into getting Corel Painter Essentials and you're all set.
-
Well, that guy in the background is supposed to be gigantic, right? If you used low perspective, like if you were watching the characters from ground level, you could include both Gordon and Garrus without having to draw them as tiny specks, and you might probably be able to include the whole Colossus, too. Perspective tricks like that are pretty difficult, though, so I understand why you wouldn't want to do that. I'm not sure I would even consider trying it with the skill level I have now.
What you have there looks good, too, though.
And I agree with Gec.
-
Heh, I don't use mspaint.
I use ps cs5.
It's just the way I draw. For some reason I fell in love with zero aa drawings and stuck to it.
I think I have a corel cd lying around.
Never really bothered with tutorials about anything in my entire life.
Also I realized now that the fistbumping arms of both dudes look horrible, particularly garrus'.
Oh well.

-
Woah, it's weird watching him improve. After about ten pages, I checked the end and... Well, wow.
-
That is amazing...
I did basically the same thing as Tesla just now, but I suddenly feel more hopeful about becoming a better artist.
Much as I like to think I've made some slight improvements in this area since my 'all hands look like slotted gloves' days, there's always that nagging feeling that I've past that point where any attempt to really improve such a skill would work.
And I'm 19.
That is a preposterous feeling to have at 19, isn't it?
Seems like a preposterous feeling to have at any age, even.
Stories like this subdue that feeling.
Gec, thank you for posting this.
Maybe someday soon I'll actually feel good enough about my art skills to post something I've drawn on the forums...
(MSPaint stuff I've put up already doesn't count...or it does, I'm just embarrassed by it.)
-
Oh, I remember that thread. I should read through all of it some day. I've only checked the first few and the last few pages. It's truly inspirational.

Yeah. Right now impressions are unfortunately a bit of a weak spot with me. I'm going to try working on that.
Thanks for the compliment though!

Posted an in progress shot of this one in the doodles thread but here's the final product.

I love how the lineart came out in this one. This is the first time I've ever impressed myself with my lineart.
-
Sweet dang! :)
There seems to be a slight problem on the right shoulder, though, but it's not that noticeable.
-
Oh man. Martyk you reminded me that there is such a thing as swooshy lines.
And that they are fun.

Wheeee

More commissioned artwork from a fellow on DA ~Henrieke (http://henrieke.deviantart.com/). He has a really awesome Preston Blair style that reminds me of the old 1940's cartoons. Pretty superb ink work.

Zero, of course!
Him or that Sigma-infected robotic Statue of Liberty thingy from the title whose name escapes me right now.
Barring those, a pic of Megaman trying to defeat Airman. Emphasis on "trying." ;)

A friend's fantroll my sister drew.

That's "Land of Lost, Unmarried Men and Dames" or possibly "Dinosaurs." They don't know.

Anyone willing to take a request, or is there a different thread for that?
-
What kind of request? I am intrigued.
-
Well, it's a fight scene.
-
I anticipate the results Flisch.
-
I'm still waiting for the details... or can it be just ANY fight?

Good luck trying to get back to the end of the level. Again. xp

Can I request something for someone to draw?
Can someone draw me a viking DJ'ing? or just a Viking?
or a viking with a pet kitty, or petting a kitty,
-
I can draw that tomorrow. (It's a little after 11 P.M. where I am right now.)
-
we are in the same timezone, as its 11:11 PM here
did you draw it?
also, I have another request,
can somebody draw me a zombie sitting at / using a mixing board ?
-
I temporarily lost my tablet, and by now, I've lost interest as well.
-

Don't ask me how to make something axe-proof, especially a feline. That's not my problem.

I took a more conceptual approach:

awesome, thank you both of you, I'll save these photos forever,

I love it

My Avatar has become increasingly complex over time. I've been experimenting with shading and I wonder what people think!
All based off my second Minecraft skin:
Along with an increase in quality there appears to be an exponential increase in size :P
-
DAYUM, Kitkat, you've gotten good with those sprites and that tablet!
-
HOLY CRAP KIT THAT'S AWESOME!!! :o :o :o
-
The detailing on the head in the third one is the best, but honestly the colors and shading in the second are the best.
-
Actually, Omega, I have yet to find the pen to my tablet after having lost it in a recent move. This was drawn with a pencil and a mouse! I wish I could find that darn pen though :/
-
Artists who open themselves up to learning are the ones that move ahead quickly. Take what you understand and agree with and use it to further yourself.
Do not argue about what your limits or habits are. You will move nowhere. Don't waste your time with it. Seek to understand! If you keep doing what you know now, you will keep getting the same results.
I read it in some book. I dunno. LOL.
-
Oh wow, I haven't been here in a long time. So many posts to catch up on. o_O
But in other news, I have been working on some projects, and I would like you guys to give a couple critiques on one of them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LaJ4AvMUyk
Ignore the fail walking at the end. Flash was hating me and wouldn't allow me to change the tween path. >_>;;
The basic story behind this is Luca Lombardi (the man speaking) has just recently joined the Assassin Brotherhood, but ever since, il Mentore (Ezio Auditore) has been ignoring him, as if he didn't exist. It has now become one of Luca's goals to get the Mentor to notice him and acknowledge his existence. But sadly, he's never been successful. And thus, an animation.
Give me your opinions, complaints, ideas, tips, whatever. I just want some feedback on my longest animation yet. >_>;;
-
Ignore the fail walking at the end. Flash was hating me and wouldn't allow me to change the tween path.
In times when flash flips the hell out (happens a lot), you just gotta frame-by-frame it. Or break the movement up into a crapton of tweens if you're running at too high a framerate.
In any case, welcome back. It's been ages.
-
Thanks, and, I'll have to try that. C:
-
Wait, how old are you now?
*checks*
.....Only 13? Are you serious right now? Good God, way to make me feel inadequate about my artistic skills.
On one hand, I've chalked up another mark on the list of things that I failed to do by age 13. On the other hand, you get bragging rights as a child prodigy!

The wings and hind legs look pretty good but the front legs are all weird. Legs don't bend that way... or they do butt the proportions are off so it looks like they shouldn't.
-
They're bird legs. They have that wierd thing where their knees are up in their thighs and what appears to be the knee is actually the ankle, and seems to bend backwards.
-
There IS the issue that the forelegs are twice the lengths of the hind legs. Otherwise cool!
-
That's so that they have a proud looking stance.
But yeah, I didn't really think that one through. Thanks.

Hadn't drawn a planet in a while so I drew a planet.
-
That's a very nice planet.
-
That is a pretty bitchin' planet, I must admit.
-
Straight lines of Nazca? :I
Anyway, I always tried to get into planet creation myself, but somehow I always get lost in the middle of the tutorials.
-
Yeah, I also got that problem.
Just gotta repeat until you master it, I guess. Though, I have tried fiddling with the steps a little to fit what I'm making.
-
I present you ART!
http://swfup.com/view/qemu
It's called "The Red Dawn"
-
The detail is exquisite on the turtle, its rider and the ground. However, the current dimensions present a problem: there is too much empty space on the left. This could readily be solved by discarding several pixel columns off the image's left side, but mostly there's just too much open field there.
Those three points on the middle of the shell are string elements, especially so in the case of the middle one. You might be able to make it better by ever so slightly increasing the creature's upward pitch.
Another thing here is that the wheels are not moving properly relative to the surface. That may have been your intention, but it might make the piece stronger if it were moving along the landscape using proper physics. Some leaves getting crumpled and suggested dirt on the tracks could help as well.
Lastly, the wheels are partially deformed, more so the left one. Reducing the level of artifacts would also aid in bringing out the full potential of those two objects. As it stand, they don't jive well with the overall image.
I rate the piece as follows...
Vision - 4.5
Originality - 3
Technique - 4
Impact - 4
Overall - 4
-
What! You know nothing about true art!!! *foaming mouth*

Dubble post!
So after I told gauph what we did today, he twisted my arms to post this on the boards. So if it makes your eyes bleed out, put the blame on him, not me. [/disclaimer]
Anyway, so we had colorisation class today. Essentially we took a black and white portrait and added colour to it to make it look like a real portrait.
I used House. (I made him look a bit older and a bit more sick intentionally.)
Based on this (http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c390/Flisch/houseportrait.jpg) drawing by the way.
Also, we did something similar a while back. We took a drawing of a landscape and turned it into both a sunny piece and a rainy/gloomy one.

Sculptris is really, really easy to learn. I recommend checking it out. The Kratair there was the 2nd thing I made, without looking at any tutorials.
-
So I'm making my avatar as a Halloween costume for this year. I did it two years ago I think, and it was a miserable failure. This year I've learned some new techniques however, and am using better building materials. I'll post a picture of it in a minute, once my phone charges up.

Nice.
How thick did you make it?
Any way to go around the left side's visibility issue?
-
So far it's two layers of cardboard and two/three layers of paper. Tomorrow I'm going to coat it in Gesso. Then I'll paint and seal it etc.
The upper hole is actually positioned in front of my left eye, so there's a usable amount of visibility there. I usually end up turning me head subconsciously though :P

Yeah, confined spaces do that to me as well! :D
-
So the helmet's going alright, I've applied 5 coats of Gesso, but it's not getting any smoother :/
In any case, I've found Pepakura (http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/), and a tutorial on how to make costumes with it, fiberglass, and Bondo, so eventually I'm going to try with that.

Dawwwww.
-
So, technical drawing question here!
I've been working hard on getting real procedure into my drawings, sketching general forms first and using them as a framework to build off of to get proportions right. (The drawing class I took last year really helped, actually!) The thing I'm not clear on is how I move to the final step of cleaning it all up in digital drawing. I'm working with layers, but as nice as things look in the preliminary stages, they occasionally get all wonky when I actually try to do my nice clean lines on their own layer. (Proportions suddenly off, can't get the lines to match up with how good they looked the layer below, etc...)
Is it just a matter of practice, drawing and redrawing lines until I get the ones I want, or is there something I'm fundamentally misunderstanding in how to do this?
-
You're probably tracing over your sketch lines right?
Don't do that. Your sketch is a guide to an extent. But don't trace that line so meticulously. Your line should follow the flow of the sketch. Your inks should not follow the exact path of your sketches. That would be an impossibility since you sketch is made of several lines going in a similar direction. Get used to making fast, quick strokes. Don't think about tracing. Just think about making a line that follows a single, clean curve. If it doesn't look right, undo, and repeat. Keep doing this until you get a line your happy with. Ctrl+Z is your friend.
-
Indeed it is.
Thanks Gec!
-
Also, it's going to take some confidence, patience, and time but it comes eventually in a few years or so. Just keep at it and don't get frustrated. If you don't like how you're doing things or how you draw a line, do something different. Take a different approach. Experiment with how you thrust your hand, elbow, shoulder. How you hold a pen. Find out what works best. Just draw everyday and draw what's on your mind.
-
i doubt anyone remembers me... 5 years have passed since i last logged in haha!
i was 16 when i was actively waiting here for spore to be released, i ended up joining the military as an integrated avionics/flight controls specialist but after 3 years i got myself discharged as per request and since then i've been living off the money i saved up and practicing art for a while now (lol tldr life story)

Yeah, those were the days. :)

I don't really consider myself an artist but here's something I made on a whim.
I'm in an RPG game which I play with my friends over IRC called Rogue Trader, which uses the Warhammer 40,000 setting (If you don't know what that is think... Catholic Nazi Space Pirates and you're about half way there).
It was made in response to an event in the last session where some evil tech-priests who were trying to steal our ship started hijacking our comms and broadcasting this evil brain-melting whispering across the entire ship, making many of the crew go crazy.
Pretty pleased with how it turned out.
-
your...other IRC friends?

I know all but one of them IRL :P

That's pretty creepy.
I like it immensely.
-
You did all of that?
Wow that's pretty impressive!
-
Its hacked together in GIMP. The ear was some bit of ****ty clipart I found on Google images. I used filters/tools to decrease the amount of detail to make it look more poster like. The blood is a combination of various shades of red drawn on with the brush tool and a stock photo of dripping blood. The lightning bolts I just cut out from a poster for some band or event or something. The font I downloaded from a free font site. Finally I put the whole thing through an effect filter called "old photograph" or something like that which added the grain effect and washed out the colour a bit.
-
Played around a bit with muscle anatomy since I'm always rusty with it most times.

Another bit of cludged-together graphic design for my Rogue Trader game. This is a design for a regimental banner for the army the players are now basically in charge of.
Translation:
Ranamanda Syndicate, 2nd Legion. (Ranamanda Magna is the name of the frontier world the Syndicate governs)
Von Kroyer is the name of the Rogue Trader dynasty the player characters are part of, Yoselim is a noble house which is also part of the Syndicate (They're actually one of the partners which tried to have us killed, but we took the head of their house hostage so now they're playing nice, keep your enemies close and all that).
"From Azure Skies"
The motto of the syndicate is "To Azure Skies" but as this is the banner of an army raised to invade other planets and bring them under our control 'from' seemed more fitting.

I wish I could draw like that...
-
You can, if you just have the time and patience and the right resources.
Sketch something you want to draw, find some reference pictures on the internet and complete your drawing with your newfound knowledge.
If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.
When you get your first really good drawing done that you can be truly proud of, it will propel you forward.
Knowing you have tried and gotten over all the pitfalls, you know you can do it again.
And gradually, ever so slowly, you start knowing how to avoid the pitfalls in the first place. And you don't have to try so hard anymore. You'll still have to try or else there will be no drawing. But you'll know what you're doing and have confidence to get over any obstacles, should they arise.
Also, life drawing is something I should emphasize, but when you're just starting out, that's kind of boring and unrewarding. So I'd suggest start with drawing something you think would be really awesome and then do everything you can to make it work. Seeing something awesome you thought come to life is... awesome. Especially if it took a lot of work to get there.
-
Thanks GD! That all really helped. :)

Painting is what I do nowadays, as much as I can really. About 2 years ago built up frustration regarding not achieving anything in my life made me redirect all of the time I spent playing video games towards painting instead. I do study still, but for the summer I am doing art full time and trying to make it make me money. Here's a painting I did last year:
It's painted with acrylic on canvas, 40x59 cm, roughly 1000 hours spent. I paint faster nowadays :P
I have a website with a few more pieces on there: http://svavel.net/

My group of friends decided to do something of a weekly art jam. We all do whatever art we can towards a theme. One of my friends is making unity games, one of us is writing, and a few of us are drawing.
This is my entry for week #1, an emanation on this week's theme of "Human Waste".
