Title: GS SimCity (2013) Community Game (Sign Up!)
Post by: Hydromancerx on February 25, 2013, 02:21:28 pm
It has been talked about ever since we heard that SimCity (2013) would be multiplayer. We would want to have a Gaming Steve region and all play together. This thread is to plan and discuss who is going to be in the region and possibly collaborate on how we want to do it. The game is coming out in about a week so hopefully we can have everyone sign up before it comes out.

The largest region I can find is 16 cities. So there will be 16 slots. Eight of which I am reserving for people who I know were interested. I sent them a PM asking them if they want to join. The other 8 slots are first come first serve.

Discovery Delta (http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/13217_215234578615425_1924252562_n.jpg) (Hydro Delta)
1. Hydromancerx [Hydromancerx] (Thatcher Overlook)*
2. martyk [martyk7] (Rising Sun Valley)*
3. Raz [WhiteFyyre] (Willow Woods)*
4. Oviraptor [Oviraptor85] (Cotton Bend)*
5. SpaceOddity [MarjaSpaceOddity] (Cottonwood Forest)*
6. LadyM [LadyMpire] (Barley Corn Point)*
7. MetallicDragon [MetallicDrgn] (Kazoo Basin)*
8. Petreak [Petreak] (Sawyer's Crossing)*
9. raikitsune [raikitsune] (Harper Plains)*
10. Cobra [Cobraven] (Washtub Fields)*
11. Plank of Wood [TheFuttBuck] (Stackolee Ravine)
12. Josasa [Josasus]
13. Detoxicated
14. ilikesanta
15.
16.

* = Has a city in game.

There are 3 cities that I  know of that have 16 cities. Which region should we use? (See Poll)

2. Titan Gorge (http://www.ign.com/wikis/simcity/Titan_Gorge)

Kind of sad how this reminds me of the failed Sim Nation.

I suppose I'll join and buy the game too. Sounds like it'll be fun with a group of GS.

I want to but the $60 is going to an upgrade from .38 to .357. Maybe when it gets cheaper.

So that's a no for now?

@Ovi
Yeah that region looks cool. But doesn't the other ones. I still have not voted. They all look good. Which is great!  ;D

I would like to join in, but I have to wait until the Mac version comes out (whenever that is?). So if you don't mind holding a spot for me. I don't care what region, I'm going to be late by then anyway.

Me too.

So is anyone thinking about specializing in a certain type of city? If so what?

EDIT: So the wiki says ...

Quote
Players can specialize in six main categories: Mining (http://simcity.wikia.com/wiki/Mining), Drilling (http://simcity.wikia.com/wiki/Drilling), Gambling , Electronics , Trade and Culture (http://simcity.wikia.com/wiki/Culture).

I guess it will all depend upon what city we get. And the region we pick.

Hi guys! How have you been?

Thanks for the invite Hydro, I like to join. I have to tell you though that I am already involved in a number of other regions, so time is limited for me.

Discovery Delta seems a good region to start in.

Yay! I know it was a long shot but I am glad I got ya.

Since you have actually played the game could you tell us things you like about it?

Note I do still read your blog.

Since you have actually played the game could you tell us things you like about it?

I have been playing in both the 1-hour Closed Beta's, which were limited in functionality and playing time.

The most important thing and the big attraction for me is the new Simulation engine, Glassbox. Through it the game actually shows you what is going on. Cars you see moving it the streets are all Sims that are really going somewhere, whether is is to shop or work or go to school. Which means that if they are stuck in traffic they won't reach their target and the shopping, work or learning will not be done.

All new to this instalment of the series is the supply chain: you can set up your city to actually manufacture things like electronics. This needs energy, Sims, transport and raw materials. The latter can for instance be supplied by a recycling plant if there is enough trash collected. Again the trash can only be collected if your city has a good infrastructure.

And there is of course the multi-player, which allows us to show off our cities and help each other by exchanging workers, simoleons, services like fire-trucks and police.

I hope that this game is the first of a new series of sim games, I would personally love to see a simLife, simEarth or even simTower being made using Glassbox.

Thanks for the invite, Hydro, but for now I'm not planning on buying the game. Firstly because it's too expensive, and secondly because with all the online stuff it all sounds kinda limited for no good reason.
Maybe I'll pick it up when it gets really cheap, but for now I'm not participating, even though it sounds fun.
Title: Re: GS SimCity (2013) Community Game (Sign Up!)

@SpaceOddity

Yeah that seems like a big factor of having "agents". I know in Sim City 4 that people and cars were like ghost. They would appear and disappear and acted more like visual effect than people. In a recent interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOSNdmSvhaU) Will and Ocean were saying that each Sim actually are there and live their own little lives. Thus using empathy and guilt as game factors. Which I think is awesome!

I hope that this game is the first of a new series of sim games, I would personally love to see a simLife, simEarth or even simTower being made using Glassbox.

Or finally SimMars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SimMars)!  ;D

Post by: Raz on February 26, 2013, 01:30:26 pm
You don't have to choose just one specialization. You can mix and match, combine mining with drilling, culture with gambling, etc. According to IGN's wiki, there are actually seven; Mining, Drilling, Trading, Electronics, Culture, Gambling, and Education.

Anywho, since it seems Delta will win, and I like the map dammit, I'm copying the available city list over.

Sawyer's Crossing - (Coal, Oil, Shoreline)
Sawyer's Crossing is ready for adventurous mayors willing to cross Sawyer Creek, out to the island. Coal and crude oil deposits provide mayors with a reliable income.

Huckleberry Island - (Coal, Ore, Shoreline)
The huckleberry bushes at the base of this island's crecent-shaped bluff lend it its distinct name. Once mayors pave roads down the hill to the rest of the island, they are welcomed with significant coal and raw ore deposits.

Harper Plains - (Coal, Ore, Inland)
Situated in the shadow of the Big Jim mountains, Harper Plains provides an entirely level site for mayors who don't want to deal with hills or rivers. This inland site has plenty of coal and raw ore for mayors to start the Mining operation of their choice.

Thatcher Overlook - (Coal, Ore, Oil, Shoreline)
The upper overlook portion of Thatcher Overlook is festooned with an assortment of coal, raw ore and crude oil deposits, giving mayors a nice sampling for the mining and Drilling specializations. The lower land that bends along the shoreline has fabulous views of the river.

Cottonwood Forest - (Coal, Ore, Riverbank/Shoreline?)
This dense forest surrounds Miller's Pond. For mayors willing to clear the forest, coal and raw ore deposits are ripe for the picking. The natural splendor of the pond and riverbank provide great backdrops for luxurious high-wealth housing or casinos.

Magnolia Wetlands - (Coal, Oil, Apparently Semi-Difficult Terrain?)
This site presents a bit of a challenge for mayors to curve their roads around the slough that extends into the middle of the land. Oil reservoirs under this site provide an excellent foundation for a drilling empire, but there are also significant deposits of coal here as well.

Honeysuckle Marsh - (Coal, Oil, Apparent Need for Bridges)
The portions of this site not covered by water are heavily wooded, but both crude oil and coal within this site are ready for a clever mayor to make lots of bridges.

Willow Woods - (Coal, Ore, Oil, Seemingly Inland)
Deep within this huge forest is a wide assortment of raw resources, including coal, raw ore and crude oil. Mayors can build a massive city in the midst of a forest in this forested site.

Rising Sun Valley - (Coal, Oil, Inland?)
Rising Sun Valley is ideal for mayors who long for wide open spaces. A large crude oil deposit in this site welcomes mayors to start a drilling business and a small amount of coal provides a source of coal for a power plant.

Barleycorn Point - (Major Oil, Shoreline/Riverbank?)
In the middle of the Rye River, Barleycorn Point features rich crude oil deposits for mayors who want to start drilling. River views lend a scenic setting for high wealth homes.

Stackolee Ravine - (Coal, Ore, Inland?)
The creeks running through Stackolee Ravine offer a challenge to mayors. Mayors who rise to this challenge can expect to find coal and raw ore deposits on the other side of each bank in this site.

Cotton Bend - (Coal, Riverbank?)
With a tributary of the Rye River curving through the middle of Cotton Bend, mayors will need to build a bridge across to reach all the coal deposits.

Washtub Fields - (Coal, Ore, Riverbank)
The Washtub Fields provide plenty of space for mayors to expand. Coal and raw ore deposits allow mayors to start a mining town and grow it into a massive mining metropolis. River access in this site is ideal for shipping metal resources.

Spooner Plains (Coal, Crude Oil, Riverbank)
Mayors seeking a site for a new mining operation will find much to like in Spooner Plains: ample coal deposits and river access for shipping coal to the Global Market. A small crude oil reservoir is available to run an Oil Power Plant.

Jugband Hills (Ore, Shoreline)
At the base of Washboard Ridge, the Jugband Hills hold valuable raw ore deposits beneath the gently rolling hills. Mayors who build a mining business can ship their metals out from the shoreline to the Global Market.

Kazoo Basin - (Oil, Coal, Possible shoreline?)
This site features a large reservoir of crude oil as well as a small amount of coal, perhaps enough for a Coal Power Plant. Views of a private inlet provide an ideal location for discerning home owners.

With that said, I'd like to claim Willow Woods if this information is correct. My objective is probably Electronics/Education.

And here's the locations of those things!

EDIT: From the way they link with maps, I'm assuming yellow is Highway and white is Railway. Looks like if you want to link up with every other city, you'll want a coastline and/or airport.

I think if I'm part of this, I'll take trading, drilling and manufacturing on Jugband. SOMEONE has to pick up after you Electronics nerds.

EDIT: Actually, I'll take any location that has oil and ore. Yeeee hawww

Well, seeing as how this will be a multiplayer game, I would say yes.

Also, screw you, Firefox spell check, "multiplayer" is too a word.

Edit: LadyM is probably in on this, however she is currently on the Amazon, so she has no way to know this exists yet.

I'm not sure, I found it on the Simtropolis forum in an official screenshots thread, so could just be guesswork. But, even if it's just guesswork it at least shows a broad picture of where things will be.

One of the things that should be kept in mind is that some projects or buildings provide region-wide unlocks or bonuses, such as the Department of Safety addon for someone's City Hall. I'm pretty sure I'm correct in my thinking that if there is just one of those in the region, for instance, that every city gains access to the higher level police, health, and so on that are provided by the building. Our cities can also support one another more directly by sending out vehicles, specializing in power, that kind of thing. It's also somewhat possible to undermine one another by having a more attractive, lower-tax city. :P

I'm still planning on primarily pursuing the Education Mecca/Silicon Valley of Simcity 5 in this region, and I'm pretty sure the Electronics industry will be able to buy Alloys (made from smelting Ore+Coal) and Plastics (Made from Crude Oil) so that I can make bundles of Processors and Consumer Electronics after that. Of course, I'm also going to be reclaiming these things from garbage using a Recycling Center to sift for alloy/plastics, but it will probably save me money if one of you Mining/Drilling nutjobs decides to refine your product into some harder crack. :P

But yeah, it's probably a reaaaalllly good idea to read the entire IGN wiki like I have.

I can probably handle a lot of refining.  I plan on focusing on drilling and industry.  I'll probably have plenty of power to share if need be.

One consideration to keep in mind is we're divided down the middle by the big river.  It'd probably be beneficial to quickly get some shipping lanes open across there.

I really want to get those Great Works; Solar Farm (http://www.ign.com/wikis/simcity/Solar_Farm), International Airport (http://www.ign.com/wikis/simcity/International_Airport), Space Center (http://www.ign.com/wikis/simcity/Space_Center) and Arcology (http://www.ign.com/wikis/simcity/Arcology). The arcologies have been my favorite in the Sim City series. I am glad its back again.  ;D

I'm not entirely sure how the connections are going to work on that map, whether or not we're already assumed to be connected or what. Mainly because that plot of land I've claimed seems to have a connection to a separate body of water. It's something that will have to wait until we get rolling. Of course, the get rolling part may have issues due to their servers, but that's another thing that remains to be seen.

And I don't mean elaborate fiction or anything. Just pictures will be fun, and maybe a description of an interesting event or two. Any effort you want to put in is appreciated :)

One consideration to keep in mind is we're divided down the middle by the big river.  It'd probably be beneficial to quickly get some shipping lanes open across there.

We're going to be Oil bros! And our cities are next to each other.

Are you guys going to post pictures and stories of your cities in this thread too, so the people that can't or don't want to play the game can still participate in some way?

I'll be posting up some pictures of New Dongsville here.

Well I was stupid and ordered from Origin so now I don't have a clue when it'll arrive. Very annoying. I tried to do live chat with customer support but they're from India and suck. It might be that they'll ship on the release day meaning I'll get it 5-7 days later, despite having pre-ordered on Monday.  :-\

Indeed, we shall erect a Washington Monument in New Dongsville to complement the gushers of oil coming from its wells.

In any case, they finally shipped. If I'm lucky, they'll be here release day. If not, maybe Wednesday, or Thursday. Really shouldn't be a big deal considering all the tests I have next week anyway though...

edit - In other news it seems Maxis will eventually add larger city sizes. Annoying that they didn't already, still.

Buy the Bigger CitiesTM DLC today. Only $4.99

Metropolis not your thing, buy the Smaller CitiesTM DLC. Only $4.99.

Or get both DLCs together along with an exclusive* building pack for only $14.99.

*All exclusive content will be released in two years as part of a drastically cheaper 'game of the year' edition.

Quite possibly. The only thing about this SimCity is I can't really see TOO much that they can try to package into DLC. Missing Subways and map variance... Maybe an editor?

In other news, seems my projected delivery date is Thursday, which is dammit for me but also good in a way since I have tests M-Th ha.

For some reason I can't see the invite.  What server did you make the region on?

EDIT: Looks like it's on US West.  Also, looks like there's a bit of change of plans for me.  Turns out the location I claimed is actually Cotton Bend and has no oil.  Ah well, I'll figure out something.

Yeah doublecheck your positions and make sure you actually got what you like. The pre-statistics have turned out to be a bit funky. And Origin only installs the launcher, the launcher downloads the actual game.

edit- Keep in mind we have to pick the same server. When the launcher comes up, hit the bottom left select server, and I think we're trying to organize on NA West. You may have to wait for a spot, but it's nearly instant personally.

Yep. So Maxis or EA, in their infinite retardness, made it so Origin friends don't equal Simcity friends, and made it so every server has its own personal roster. This means it is a requirement for anyone to show up on friend search that you already have logged into that server. Oh, and friend request is broken too, throws an error due to stupid server trouble. Morons.

Hopefully. Until things are sorted out, the region must be on hold because we can't actually add each other to our friends list on these busy servers, and if we go to Europe, those will just be overwhelmed too once Europe gets their games unlocked.

So my city ended up being a mining/trading empire, making oodles of money, and is now also producing electronics. Also we have a damn nuke plant and a lot of people crammed into the city like sardines. I still lack a university but that will probably have to come when the resources run out (I'm down to my coal mine having four months supply left)... At which point I may be screwed because I run a pretty heavy hourly deficit because my industries CHURN out money. Electronics is shaping up well though, so maybe with imports my city can survive. I'm also trying to mix some tourism in, boost my commerce and whatnot, maybe even resort to gambling. My industrial/residential demand is through the roof though. I'd give a picture but I forgot to take one/ kinda got kicked out in a way, and now I would have to wait in the freakin queue to play. I'm also quite tired.

Obviously, Razopolis IS DA BESTEST CITEH. Ignore the large number of problems and the fact that it may very well collapse when it hits the resource wall.

I can't even login to the North American West 1. Its been having me wait for like 3 or 4 hours now. And on the forum it says others have had the same problem. So yeah I cannot really add anyone else at the moment since I cannot even play on that server.

I'm having a terrible time making money. I was doing fine, then suddenly I have to turn off nearly all my services just to not go bankrupt. So my city is burning down, crime is rampant, education is gone, land value is plummeting, but I can't turn anything back on. :|

Also, homeless are EVERYwhere. I have no idea how I am supposed to deal with them (they like to live in abandoned buildings, which get abandoned all the time, for above reasons).

I looked over your city, and the problems are pretty obvious. Your bonds are costing you 2,000 an hour in payments, and you might have upgraded your police station too soon. You're also not exporting your metal or alloy to the global market. You also don't need three different trade storages or whatever they're called to hold your ore and coal. Your smelting factory is also in a terrible location near your garbage dump, which is also too limited because you've got nowhere to expand for more dumping sites if you need them. The smelting factory is the worst though, it needs room to add all the additional modules. Your other problem is that you're so incredibly heavy on residential that you lack much industrial or commercial income, which may or may not be a side effect of my city.

Your remedy is somewhat simple. You need to switch that trade hub that's holding the alloys and metal to export them. You could turn everything back on with that simple press of a button. You'd still run a deficit, but your income would be enormous. How do you think I get by, running damn near -20k/hr occasionally? I export my processors for a cool million per day, and I'm still trying to expand my business, but I have to wait until my coal/ore runs out for the space those mines take up.

Somewhat longer-term, once the bonds are paid off, that 2k will drop off your budget. Finally, I'm not whether or not you need the enormous police station already, maybe you do. Just something to consider. I'd do something about giving your smelting factory room to breath. Same with the garbage and sewage treatment. If you invest in a second ore mine, you can run the smelting factory on full-Alloys, which make 43k per 10 tons as opposed to metal which is a good deal cheaper. I'd also consolidate your trade hubs into maybe two. One to handle shipping your exports out, and one to handle receiving your coal and ore to ship to the smelting factory. Ideally you should be utilizing the coal and ore as fast as you strike the earth. I'm doing this double time, smelting my daily mined coal and ore into alloy, which itself is combined with imported plastics to create my processors. Just have the coal to power your plant shipped in until you decide to switch to something else.

Pro top, a single public library also raises your education cap by one. Each education building does. Also just demolish abandoned anything. They're fire hazards and cause other problems. The buildings will rebuild, usually at the same level.

Hey, how did everyone else get to the point where they could upgrade their Mining HQ?  I've got two mines running at full capacity carting ore off to two trade depots and I'm still not able to produce the 190,000 simoleons per day that the first upgrade requires.

I am basically having to delete most everything and start over. Hopefully the new road system will be better. Also a meteor shower hit my city so a bunch of my old infrastructure got knocked out.

I still have the Tokyo Tower but probably not for much longer.

Don't feel bad. I went ahead and transitioned to not surviving off mined ore and coal... Now I import. I was doing good, but I just had to keep pushing... Pushed myself nearly into bankruptcy as I tried to achieve the freaking electronics goal for level 2 and Consumer Electronics Factories. Bankruptcy multiple times only saved by a bug that apparently reenables controls because I ship stuff constantly. Now I'm back to making good money and breaking into the Consumer Electronics market, which is absurdly expensive. My processors currently sell for about 64k, but the TVs sell for 194k. The processors are 1:1 to the TVs, but making the TVs requires the usual 100:1 Alloys and 1:1 Plastics. Assuming I can produce the alloys myself as usual.

In other news, I've researched the best solar power generators that output 32MW, and the Gen 2 Nuclear Reactors that output 300MW instead of 200MW. Somewhat cheaper to build and run, the gen 2's are. Currently researching the neutron reactors that output 600MW. Nuclear power is fantastic as long as your people are educated enough not to screw it up and cause a meltdown. My university can't seem to get enough students... It seems clear to me that I need people inhabiting the other cities in my subset of the region in order to get enough students attending the university to add more schools so I can research more technologies.

But off to bed and school tomorrow for me.

Pro top, a single public library also raises your education cap by one. Each education building does. Also just demolish abandoned anything. They're fire hazards and cause other problems. The buildings will rebuild, usually at the same level.

The reason for all the trade depots was because my mines kept closing because they couldn't get the stuff out fast enough. And I thought I set everything to export, guessed I missed one. But I might try making one a trade port so I can use the rails instead of the roads, cause even with the mass transit, the road to the region is always traffic heavy.

The upgraded police precinct (when I placed it) cost less per month than the fully upgraded police station. But they kept complaining there was too much crime, so I added a couple more things, I was still making money though. As for the zoning, the commercial was meant to take over some of the interior, but commercial demand throughout me game has been poor, industrial high. But I figured that the mines would replace the jobs of industry (and I'd replace them with industry once they were done). It will be difficult to move/expand the Smelting Factory without removing more industry, or moving it to an undesirable location.

I'm not too worried about the garbage, the incinerator is more then taking care of it, and they take up a lot less space then the dumps, so I can place more if I need to.

Also, I have a library, it's just turned off. :P I also had a high school until a Giant Lizard happened (this is after money problems, mind you, so it was turned off, but I couldn't afford to replace it).

Anyway, anything I do will have to wait until I get home from work. :P

I no longer really need coal, I import it from the Global Market. Realistically I don't need anything other than people to build cities on the other plots in my subset of the region, to provide MOAR housing and industry. Also students so my university can upgrade MOAR. MOAR!!!!

Cough.

In other news, I'm considering financing the construction of an Arcology on my Great Works site. Costs are estimated to be at about 14 million, including import costs of the Alloys, Metals, and 1 million foundation price tag. This cost doesn't take into account the production of TVs that would have to be funneled as carefully as possible to the site.

On second thought, there seem to be system problems with Great Works currently. Bah! In any case, I'd send you guys monehs, but I don't have connections across the damned river.

edit- I keep forgetting to mention, I've gotten my Trading HQ to Level 3, and have unlocked all the trade options for Electronics and Metals. I've also unlocked the Electronics HQ's consumer electronics building, and the Metal HQ's smelting building. This essentially means that it is pointless to unlock the commerce buildings of the Electronics and Metals HQs, because my Trade HQ does what those buildings would do, only better.

This means you should all now have access to the full Electronics/Metals tech tree, including trading options with a Trade Port. This might mean it's possible to set up metal operations without initial mines or ore/coal beneath your land, but I'm not sure. It does mean that you can set up a pure Electronics industry, unlike what I've done, as you can now import the Alloys and Plastics needed for the industry right off the bat.

Other than that, if no one remembers, I've unlocked the 32MW solar panel generators, and the 200 MW Gen 2 nuclear reactors. Making good progress on the Fast Neutron reactors that pump out that sweet, sweet 600MW.

Making absurd amounts of money per day, yes. I also unlocked all the Trade buildings, Mining buildings, and Electronics buildings. Researched a few projects. More projects left, more schools to add to the university. An Arcology to build that seems bugged and probably will be for a while until they fix the damn server issues. I haven't totally beaten it but I've effectively accomplished what I set out to do, to build a pretty highly educated city that pumps out electronics. At this point it's basically sit there and make millions of dollars while making research progress on the Fast Neutrons, waiting for more people to join the region or the Great Works to get re-enabled or fixed or whatever is wrong with them. My cash reserves are up to 13 million and the income advisors says I make something like 2.7mil a month or a day or whatever their wonky time measurements are. Getting to where I am wasn't exactly easy though, took a lot of thought, careful planning, and time.

Can't be done without a connection to you guys, and I have no connections that cross that river. It seems to be this way on all the 16 player maps. Forced into four subsections, usually with two subsections connected by rail, but the two halves split and connected by nothing. Maybe if connections can be created across water or air by someone else on my side, that connect to someone on your side with water/air, a transfer system could be setup. I bulldozed my airport because it was pointless and taking up incredibly valuable space that I needed.

Well, why did it let me in then. It said on the launcher it was connected. LOL! Makes no sense. It's a great game, but I think it was a big mistake for them to do online only.

Been getting that happen to me when I forget to run from my shortcut that runs as administrator.

To Pat, unless you're joking, it's like this. There are four road groups of four cities, and two rail groups of eight cities. I can't send money to everyone across the river because I don't have a rail or road connection to them. Maybe I could if there were airports on the other side, but I doubt it. As for water, I only have access to a separate body of water.

Also, I rectified my education problem. Turns out buildings can become stuck in some kind of limbo, not sending out their unenrolled students when time comes to hop on the bus or mosey off to university. Bulldozing them and having them rebuild has fixed that, they now send their students properly.

Also, Fast Neutrons (600 MW Nuclear) are now unlocked! My nuke plant pumps out 800MW now.

Ovi built a ferry today, I wonder if you can connect through that. We're working on an airport, maybe that will help.
Title: Re: GS SimCity (2013) Community Game (Sign Up!)
Post by: Raz on March 08, 2013, 04:40:27 pm
No connection still, with ferry. If anyone on our side can get a ferry on that river and then figure out if a connection forms, that'd be good. Also if anyone still has an airport when they build one, then test to see if there's a connection, that'd also be good.

edit- I've managed to screw with the education system enough to force my students into my university, upgrading it's level. I now also have a School of Engineering in addition to a School of Science. Engineering boosts low and medium wealth industrial income, and Science boosts high-tech. I also finished research on the Great Work Solar Power Plant, but who cares about that thing when 600MW nuclear reactors can be built cheaply, cleanly, and safely if you've got the education. My Engineering school also unlocked HazMat fire trucks to fight HazMat fires that are started at industrial buildings. Next order of business is trying to force more students into the university, while researching Vertical Turbines for you wind nuts.

And to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.

I know that’s a little contrived – kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy. But we feel bad about what happened. We’re hoping you won’t stay mad and that we’ll be friends again when SimCity is running at 100 percent.

They don't specify if we get a choice of what game, which makes me extremely wary. Even if there is a choice, I doubt there will be a large and new range.

I tried to build an airport and a Boat dock and both told me it wasn't ploppable. I had plenty of room for both, but it wouldn't even show me the little light blue dots where it could be placed. Not sure what is wrong with it. Also, I noticed that add-ons to the City Hall aren't showing up for me if someone else in the region has already placed it. It acts like no one has placed any and I have to place them myself. Don't know what's up with that either.

I hope the free game isn't something I already have. Hopefully they will give us a choice.

Hi , guys I had ball playing last night. I have got a city next to Raz, and I like universities so I built one and a school of Engineering. So our little cluster now has two!  ;D
I tried sending the alloy that I get from my Recycling plant to the Arco, but that doesn't work that well some way or another. There is now 15 of the 1000, but I'm not even sure that it is some of what I sent, or Raz's. ???

As far as I can tell, it's necessary to keep the education cap at 5 hats instead of 4. Even turned off the max is still 5 apparently.

As for the second school of engineering, that's a waste. You should have placed something other than Engineering or Science if you just did it, to access more stuff.

You need to explain better Petreak. So you don't yet have access to region bonuses?

And great works seem to be disabled as far as I can tell. I didn't even see it begin to build last night.

Not sure what is going on. I haven't played today since the new patch though, so maybe it will work now. I'll check it and let you know.

So I tried to claim Huckleberry Island. Then unclaimed Hydronia. Reclaimed Hydronia and then unclaimed Huckleberry Island to see if I could load Hydronia. Apparently it did not work. However it did work on another server. Which puzzles me. Note that I had to claim Huckleberry Island first because I would have been kicked from the region like in my test region.

I just want to play in the region with you guys.  :(

Well, my city is ruined now. The stupid Lizard showed up and of all the places it could have run, it goes straight for my Nuclear power plant. Now over half my city is radioactive and useless. I just don't think it will ever recover. They should have added the ability to clean up radiation. Nothing will work in the radioactive zone. I went from a great city, making plenty of money, to nothing. I guess I'll have to abandon the city. Oh well, it was fun playing with you all while it lasted.
Hydro, maybe we should make a new region and play together.

Well, the radiation does go away in time (a very long time, but it does go away). Parks and trees can help it go away faster by absorbing some of it.

Edit: Also, since my complete overhaul, my city has been doing much better:

Are you sure it was the lizard because your plant is still there. The plant still being there would indicate meltdown due to education levels or maybe you simply rebuilt it. And my game is working fine, they seem to have updated again. As of 9:38 AM it was a breeze to log in, load my city, and even load up Petreak's city to see what was up.

edit - My city also doesn't need any kind of support be that fire, medical, or otherwise. We're quite peachy as it is.

I made another region on North America East 4 last night - Glicker Gorge

I thought it would be good for a backup for anyone who has trouble getting the first one. The only problem would be the invites. It would be nice to invite your friends without having them ON the server at the time.
