Topic: Half Life Episode One and Garry's mod on dial up.

Okay here is my current situation:

A) I have purchased Epsode one not knowing that it was only a key to unlock the 500 mb online download of the game.

B) I have dial-up around 150kb.

C)I tried to get it from steam but i obviously couldn't because i only have one phone line and it would probably take 2 weeks anyways.

I wanted to know if there is a way i could download it onto a computer at a friends house and then port it to my house with a flash drive.

Or, maybe i can take my whole comp and hook it up to my friend's fast internet connection.

Are Either of these reasonable solutions? Or even possible/legal??
Is there any way that i can use Garry's Mod 10 on my own home computer?!?
Save me smart tinkerers of the forum!

Maybe i can even call valve and ask them... I'll try it now... what do you guys think?

Oh, and sorry for posting a topic even though i'm fairly new. I know that's the noob trend but i feel like i'm part of this forum because ive lurked for years, only posting when i need advice or am seriously erked by another person's opinion... sorry in advance.

Hooking it up to your friend's connection is the only thing that will work.

Yeah, pretty much. And GMod will bring your modem to its knees. There's no way you'd want to play that on dial up. I mean, you could play solo and that would be fine, but multiplayer? As soon as you got any good contraption going, there would just be too many objects to keep track of. It's a laggy game even on a cable modem.

You can install Steam on a friend's computer, sign in with your account and download the required gcf files, then put them on a flash drive.

thanks guys, sounds like the flash drive thing will work. Now to find a way to get my crappiest friend to let me use his internet for free....
Is there any way i can get the files off of the internet? does steam or any other site hold such useful files?

You get them by purchasing the game and logging into Steam. That's the only way, because they're for piracy protection.
