Creature Editor, Textures and More
« on: May 12, 2006, 05:58:37 pm »
This is more than likely going to cause of lot of flames from fanboyism, but I will continue anyway.

I'm quite disappointed with the creature editor.  I'm sure that I'm not the only one to notice that it's basically just a blob.  You start with a blob and the creatures bodies end up as a blob with just legs and attachments.

There doesn't really seem to be a lot of tools for fine-tuning.  Sure you can make it skinny or fatter, but is there not any tools for adding definitions?  At this rate most creatures will look the same cause there is no fine-tuning to set them apart.  Unless there is a feature that hasn't been shown.

Now, this might be myself asking for a lot as I model in Maya and expect full control.  I just see this causing a lot look-a-like creatures.  I mean what about the people that want to spend hours creating an actually unique creature?

Do you have ANYTHING positive to say about Spore?
Honestly, why are you even here other than to troll?
We have heard enough about how dissapointed you are in Spore.
Every single topic has several of your posts saying how it hasn't lived up to what you want it to be.
Nobody cares.

So... how could you define it in any other way?  You can deconstruct every kind of life to a blob with stuff on because of centralized digestive tract, respiration, etc.  If you wanted it to be less blobby you could reform it into a snake, or a centipede.

From what I can see modelling in spore is like clay. All clay models start out like a blob and you mold the blob into whatever shape you want.

While I understand where you're coming from. From all the screens I've seen it hardly seems like everything is just a "blob with legs"

here for example: http://www.spore.com/screenshots.php

Particularly the Battlefish on the bottom (not included in the actual set of creature shots)

Creatures have defintions.  Take a cat for example, it's not just a blob with legs.  It has actual indents and the like to give it shape.

I'm sorry that I don't gush over Spore like everyone else on the Forum.

I actually have to agree I'm some what disappointed too.  I haven't used Maya but the Spore creature editor program doesn't look very flexable.  Sure they want to make it easy for your average Joe but they should added an advanced features button so those of us who really want to get into it can have a blast.

Battlefish doesn't look like a blob because most of it is made up of giant arms and legs that come pre-defined.

And what, pray tell, do you want to make that doesn't have a torso?

This is a forum for people who share a common interest to talk about it.
We are here as fans of Spore to discuss the game we all like.

If you have criticisms, send them to Will.
Complaining to us has absolutely no point as we cannot do anything about it.
In case you didn't know, we aren't on the dev team.
Nothing you post here could ever have even the slightest effect on the development of Spore.
And frankly we are tired of hearing it.

The way it is now, is that it won't even take hours to create a creature even if you wanted too, there is simple not enough control.  It's just make a blob and add legs and attachments.

Okay, go tell Will.
I fail to see what complaining to us accomplishes.
