Topic: Spore servers and site down....

I noticed that something was wrong with the server when I went to look at the MySpore page and it kept immediately giving that error message. So, I went to the main menu to relog in and its been stuck at connecting for a few minutes.

I checked the main site and they have the construction thing up.

Must be something major if both the site and servers are down.

It IS Sporeday, after all, they're probably just updating the site.

Maybe it's the plant editor but that's just me with a crazy theory.

They don't usually shut down the server on Spore Day and I don't remember them shutting down the server and site at the same time.

I've got plenty of content, so I'm not worried about playing offline for a while.

I won't bet on anything special. Every now and then both the site and server need a little down time to let Maxis make big clean ups.

The Spore.com servers will be down for maintenance on Wednesday , October 22nd, at 10AM Pacific Time (5PM GMT). They will be down for approximately three hours. Players will be unable to log into their games and the website will be inaccessible during this time.

The site will be down for two hours so we can add a feature that includes multiple screen names for accounts. Thanks for your patience during this period.

While we're down, you will not be able to log into the game, but the forums will remain accessible. Once we're back up, more info will be posted about how multiple screen names will work.

Looks like they have it up now. I just went to spore and had to relogin (not sure if they did that or it was me forgetting to check that log me in box) and saw the username manager.

The achievements part of it is something they are still working on though.

They seriously have to clean up:

- Untextured stuff
- Anything from not very popular users/flagged that have been inactive for at least 3 months after release (right now that can't be done but you get what I'm saying)

They're servers are filling up fast and most of it is stuff people either unwillingly upload or some kid made without any care for it

That's mean.  People should be allowed to upload anything appropriate they want.  Just because you don't like something doesn't mean someone else doesn't.  I would boycott EA if they removed random stuff cause they didn't like it.

that's not right, there might be some creation i uploaded that nobody ever commentied on, but it still doesn't mean it's a bad creation or that i didn't spend sufficient time working on it or that i don't care about that creation.

You honestly think the creators of these "buildings" care about these structures at all? Not everyone puts their best effort (or any at all) into their creations.

Just search through "all buildings' sort by "newest" and you'll see lots of similar examples, mostly named things like "lajwfeaoiwg" "gh", or "eeeeeeeeeeeee".

I'm not so sure that junk is the sporpedia's biggest problem (except for the fact that the game shovels it at you automatically), but don't believe that everyone of the 41 million items in the sporepedia needs to be respected and preserved.

There was supposed to be an algorithm which would put the crappy stuff to the very bottom.  But as far as I can tell I pretty much get all stuff from my buddy's a podcasts.  Almost nothing I find in game is random.... so I guess they did that in lieu of the algorithm?
