And this is why I love Maxis. They actually ANSWER to our concerns.

Yes. Because that is smart marketing.

These things happen and have happened all the time with pretty much every popular game out there that has expansion of some sort. This does not surprise me, and it shouldn't surprise you.

I met this UFO in tribe :

I guess there will be a Jihad against me.

Spore: General / My SHORT review of Spore. (Maybe Spoilers)
« on: October 13, 2008, 01:02:13 pm »
Basically, I'm summing up all the things that impress me, and what not.

Positive impression:

+ All stages look appropiately appealing.
+ Seeing planets in the nightsky is AWESOME.
+ Stage transitions are AWESOME (Especially going into Tribe)
+ Terraforming is alot of fun.
+ Discovering really cool gems of creatures/vehicles/spaceships is allways refreshing.

Now the bad:

- Space stage is not as in depth, and is repetitive (Will be fixed in expansion)
- Maxis creations: Not that they are too bad, but you can't BAN them.
- Repeat creatures: Same creatures appear in other save games. I'd had several creatures I see on my planet in one save game, appear later on other planets in another savegame.
- Tribe could've been much better, even though it has the best intro.
- Transitions in general are too abrupt. Maybe that gets fixed later on with expansions, but I don't think so. For instance, going to Tribe could've been more fun if the "intelligence" angle was used more. Higher brainpower would allow for creatures to use tools to hunt and impress other creatures (Chimps do this all the time, and they are still considered just animals) to the final conclusion of creating fire.

But the best thing of all is that Spore is addictive fun, even with those minor tidbits I just mentioned. There are several otherthings that bug me about Spore, but usually those are little bugs that will get fixed later.

I'm already excited about this Space expansion pack. It's nice that you have to beam down to do mission "Star Trek" style.

Now, a water creature expansion, and a gas creature expansion (Which would have the Spore scratching their heads) would be also awesome.

One serious bug:  Planets are misformed. When I started at Cell, going to the Creature phase, my planet is one hug flat surface. No trees, oceans, mountains. I also noticed bugs when teraforming existing planets. Afterwards, planets change into on flat surface like I said above.

Spore: General / Re: Well: The Zero Punctutation review of Spore.

Watch his other reviews, he didn't trash it on the same level as the other games. A lot of things he said are just literaly repeats of what roughly 70% of this forum have been saying with more profinaty and with a British-Aussie accent.

Also, his reviews arn't intended to be taken seriously. Zero Puntuation is NOT IGN or Gamespot.

It is his opinion, which he presents in comical fashion. So if he bashes a game you like, just ignore it.
That's why I'm not put of by this, since I love Spore.

Depth will come in the expansion packs.

Suffice to say that Yahtzee also didn't "get" Spore.

Even so, he does have some points about Spore : Transition between phases could've been more gradual.

Spore: General / Re: Will Wright's reaction to 'critical' reviews of Spore

I agree with Necrox.

If Spore is aimed at casual gamer then it's fine on Easy mode up to Space. Then they it becomes too hard.
And I suppose the Hard setting is fine for "hardcore" gamers. Maybe still too easy?

I played one of my games on Easy and the AI sent me to build a colony on a useless planet. I bought 3 atmosphere generators (after selling heaps of spice that arrives at a very slow rate from my one homeworld) and it's still not enough to plant the first trees.

All that time while there is a nice moon next to my planet that I managed to get up to T2 in no time at all.

Also those early missions often send you right in the middle of an aggressive empire.

At least in the Tribal and Civ phases you had some time to get ready before the first enemy appears.

This seems to be the most talked about problem from most people.

Pirates, Eco-disasters and aggressive alien empires.

I think a small patch would do wonders. But I'm actually finding it well balanced on "normal".

Sorry, but I'm a devil's advocate here: In my experience I've never had any problems with DRM. I've never copied a game, and I don't need to. And unless EVERYONE is copying a game, I bet that most buyers just do not copy them, because they BOUGHT it.

The whole issue around Securom in perticular I find weird.
They say that is stops Antivirus programs from working ->  Doesn't happen with me.
They say that you can't use your DVD burner              ->  Doesn't happen with me.
They say that you can't install more then 3 time the same game -> Doesn't happen with me (I've installed the whole Sims 2 franchise without problems a second time, the same with Steam games, and besides, if you own the legitimate copy, you can call EA for more installs)

When is it a problem ? When people actually tried to copy the game, which companies do not want you to do. I understand that technically, you are allowed one backup copy, but that isn't really the problem is it ? *Looks at pirates*

From here on, I'm not going to check the forums till Spore is in my hands and completely played through.

This means this is my last post for weeks I think.
