Everything Else / Technical Help
« on: June 08, 2009, 04:31:46 am »
Well I decided to start a new thread for this, since it isn't exactly a PC problem...

Anyway, we are re-decorating our lounge, and getting a new TV, DVD-player etc.

My cousin has set up his DVD player so that they have a Hard-drive attached full of movies, so they can play any one whenever they want.

I think they can play their music and show photos on it as well.

How would I go about doing this?

Forum Games / The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon
« on: June 06, 2009, 10:32:26 am »
I'm sure a lot of people will know this game, and I'm pretty terrible at it, but it's fun.

The aim is to connect celebrities to Kevin Bacon in less than 6 links. (Or in as few as possible.)

Bacon numbers
Kevin Bacon

The Bacon number of an actor or actress is the number of degrees of separation he or she has from Bacon, as defined by the game. This is an application of the Erdős number concept to the movie industry. The higher the Bacon number, the farther away from Kevin Bacon the actor is.

The computation of a Bacon number for actor X is a "shortest path" algorithm:

    * If the lowest Bacon number of any actor with whom X has appeared in a movie is N, X's Bacon number is N + 1.
    * Kevin Bacon himself has a Bacon number of 0.

Here is an example, using Elvis Presley:

    * Elvis Presley was in Change of Habit (1969) with Edward Asner
    * Edward Asner was in JFK (1991) with Kevin Bacon

Therefore Asner has a Bacon number of 1, and Presley (who never appeared in a film with Bacon himself) has a Bacon number of 2.

So let's start with...somebody attractive.

Jessica Alba.

Since they are awesome I thought I'd start a thread for them.

Any other fans?

Basically, who wants X-Factor to be Christmas #1 again?

Download Never Gonna Give you Up by Rick Astley, now, even if you already have it.

The link below explains better.

Another option, is to download Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah, which is awesome.

I'm not doing this out of spam, just the groups explain it better and, well, I hate x-factor

Edit: A lot

Spore: Sporepedia Exchange / Supraman's....errr....Supra Creatures
« on: June 18, 2008, 12:22:07 pm »

Ok, here are some pictures.

Vius monum - Is essentially a giant eye, yet ironically is totally blind.

Vius duom - Descended from the vius monum

Octopedium damius - Has 8 strong legs. An ambush predator that lays in wait before pouncing forwards and piercing its prey's flesh with its front claws.

Homo sasquatchium (The homo being the genus homo. Not...) - Bigfoot?

Fimus hog - The plates on its back flush red to during mating season to attract a mate.

Escobre - A monstrosity of nature. Eats almost anything that gets in its way. Seems very angry most of the time.

Dylesse - This terror bird is too big to fly, and too slow to chase prey. Instead it ambles around waiting for another predator to do the job for it, before marching in and devouring the corpse. Its size means none of the predators on its planet will get in the way.

Spore: Creation Corner / I found a Load of Creature Creations
« on: June 06, 2008, 09:30:42 am »
So I just found a load of creatures I made using that creature editor.

They don't have names or anything, but I thought I'd stick them up here.

I might try making a few when the creature creator comes out...

Tbh, they're all pretty poor.

PC Games / My football manager game just died!!!
« on: March 25, 2008, 11:22:23 am »
Hey, I'm playing on FM08 and in my third season, around December the game keeps crashing at the same date.

I really don't want to lose this save, is there any way to fix it?

Everything Else / Who feels like discreding the hell out of a source?
« on: March 19, 2008, 03:12:39 pm »

For starters, I have a biology report to do in which comparing sources is quite important, so bashing the hell out of this bs would be pretty good.

Daxx may come in handy  ;)

But on a more serious note, if people really believe this they could end up spreading HIV around. It's kinda scary just how stupid some people are....

Everything Else / Help! My computer is going greeny yellow!
« on: February 26, 2008, 09:23:27 am »
Well, the image on the screen to be precise. It used to happen a bit, but generally a good smack sorted it out for a month or two. Then it didn't happen for ages, and now it's constant. I'm sure it isn't the screen, but  the display is a greeny yellow colour, like a film has been put in front of it. As you can imagine, it makes playing games quite a frustrating experience.

Any idea what's wrong with it?

Everything Else / Any suggestions for MP3 Players?
« on: December 01, 2007, 05:53:05 am »
Didn't really know where to put this...

For Christmas, I want an mp3 player, but I'm pretty choosy. My criteria is:

- It must look good

- It must have a 20GB or more memory

- Preferably play video

- Must NOT be an ipod

I've been looking, but haven't found anything yet.

Don't ask me why I don't like ipods, I just don't.

PC Games / Joystick
« on: September 24, 2007, 11:31:23 am »
Hey, I need a new joystick for my Dad, I just bought him Blazing Angels II.

I don't want it to be too expensive, but at least have enough axis and buttons.

Any recommendations?

Edit: No I didn' isn't out yet. They let me add it to basket though...

Bloody Amazon.

Still, joysticks...

Portable Games / Pre-owned Problems
« on: July 23, 2007, 11:43:30 am »
Sorry about the alliteration, that was unintentional I swear.

Anyway, I just got a DS and have bought a pre-owned game as well.

However, some guy called Josh has owned it before and I know this because his progress is still on the game cartridge.

How do I get rid of it?

Edit: Whoops, put this in console games. Here we go...

Forum Games / The Crazy Comedy Competition.
« on: July 03, 2007, 05:16:31 pm »
Sorry for the stupid name, but it got you to look didn't it?

Basically, this is to find the forums funniest member.

It will be in 3 rounds, each lasting a couple of days.

Round 1 will be nominations (no nominating yourself.) Which will be put into Round 2.

Round 2 will shave this number down to just 5 contestants for round 3. (If enough people are nominated...) I will set up a poll and everyone will have 3 votes.

Round 3 will be the final. There will be another poll and just 1 vote each.

Oh how well set out is this?

Anyway, get nominating.

Current round: 1

Nominations: /lurk

Spore: General / Names
« on: July 01, 2007, 07:23:18 am »
Ok, if you have ever played on Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 you would have seen that all the people have names.

Now, on a similar scale, how cool would it be if they procedurally generated names, based on your creatures. It could be governed by the mouth, ie. more avian or reptilian names etc. Or by the aggressiveness of your tribe, ie. more warlike species would have more vicious sounding names, more peaceful and cultured would have nicer sounding names.
