PC Games / Getting ready to S.T.A.L.K.
« on: January 13, 2007, 01:03:26 pm »
Is anyone getting really excited about S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?  It really is coming out.  On the Games for Windows Magazine Podcast (linky: they have a build and say its like "an Oblivion FPS".  It sounds pretty neat and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. comes out this March!

Console Games / No More Heroes

Has anyone seen this game?  It looks really amazing.  It is for the Wii and made by Suda 51 who developed Killer 7, that crazy shooter for the Gamecube.
It looks like it is going to be a blast.  Your a hitman, "Travis, a hardcore geek, wins an Internet auction for a powerful beam katana, which he uses to boost his career as a hit man. After killing resident cool guy Helter Skelter, he is ranked number 11 by the UAA, the governing body of assassins. Providing him with rank matches is Sylvia Christel, a French-born agent of the UAA." (
You use the Wii-mote as your sword to pull of moves in the game, so lets hope it's better then Red Steel!  There is a video (pretty lame voice-acting) but I can't find right now.  Peace out!

Console Games / Retro Review: Resident Evil 4
« on: November 24, 2006, 07:54:54 pm »
Hi, I got my Wii just almost a week ago and my friends let me borrow some Gamecube games because I never owned one.  One of those games was Resident Evil 4 and this is my Retro Review for it.

Music-  I started with music for one reason, this games music is amazing.  It is the best music in a videogame, to convey emotion, I have ever heard.  One part in the game you are in some underground dock place, with the Merchant.  That song is so just jaw-dropping depressing.  It makes you feel that you are nothing, insignificant.  I swear, I actually almosted ... uh ... cried.  5/5

Gameplay-  Everyone how has plays this game knows it isn't a rocket-blasting out-of-your-ass kinda deal.  This game is slow.  You have time to aim for headshots, but only just enough.  I like this style of gameplay and it complments Twilight Princess, which is an action-heavy game.  The upgrading mechanic works very well, is a lot of fun.  The Merchant also worked well too.  The only problem I had was some of the action scenes had a button inconsistency, the would switch A-b on you to L-R, which made me a bit frustrated with it.  4.5/5

Mood/Enviroment-  This game, as I already mentioned, has a very depressing mood to it.  In the combination of the heart-dropping music, utterly opressive (not in a bad way) loacles and just down right hopeless story that Capcom has made one of the best, if not the greatest Survival-Horror.  I have a bone to pick with people who say this game is scary, it just is not.  The game is freaky, the game makes you feel disheartned but in no way have I yet felt scared except for me dieing before I get to a save point.  5/5

Overall I give Resident Evil 4 a: 4.75/5

Console Games / What is Next-Gen?
« on: October 29, 2006, 01:52:58 pm »
This is a rant about how next-gen seems to be a lot like this-gen.

I own a Xbox, 360, PS2 and Gamecube so belive me when I say I am not a fanboy

PS3: I know it's a cliche to hate Sony, but people, Sony is like a blind, deaf and dumb person when it comes to PR.  The PS3 is just what it's name is, the 3rd installment in Old Generation Gameplay.  The Sony PS3, in my opinion, has what plays like stuff from PSOne and PS2.  There is nothing except graphics that is anything new.  Don't even mention the controller, it should have been either like Wii or XB360, not the middle.

XB360: It's the same thing with Microsoft, try somthing new for a change.  I know that the whole XBLive component is very cool and is something next-gen with XBLive Arcade on Marketplace but is there really anyway new way to play.

Wii:  Now this one might be hard to say without sounding fanboyish but the way Nintendo is heading with the Wii and DS is different.  It encourages different styles of gameplay and eventhough the Wii (compared to the other "Next-Gen" Consoles) is completely NOT a graphical powerhouse, it is interesting and everyone should at least give it a try.

PC: I know this shouldn't be in the Console Section, sorry.  In recent years the gap between the Consoles and the PC has gotten closer with the rise of online multiplay and making a working control scheme for an RTS on the 360, the PC is about to widen the gap with new types of gameplay and genres.  The HL episodes are an example and Crysis, though you may thing i'm being hypocritical for mentioning the game, has an intresting if not an amazing tactical RPGish weapons/amour system.  You always have to mention Spore, the revitalization of a genre long dead.

Ok, I'm done so.... :-\  discuss I guess and I'll be checking back on this later to see if anyone says anything By the way, keep it inteligent and I am sorry for any spelling mistakes.

Books / WORLD WAR Z!!!!

This book is amazing, very creepy and mature.  The North Koreans.... it's kinda scary what they did.  I wont spoil it but the South Koreans were freaked out by it to.  This Book pokes fun at dumbass military Generals and is a great read.  Im almost done with it and if your a fan of the Zombie Survival Guide, you'll probably like it too.

Spore: General / Planetary Engineering

Here are some ideas for terraforming tools/weapons
1.  The Crustbuster- a nuclear weapon that can create huge holes and blow the surface of a planet off.
2.  Solar Mirror-  Used to heat a planet or as a giant magnifying glass that heats things until they explode.
3.  Genesis Weapon-  I know they already mentioned it, but it is still really neat.
4.  Large Asteriod-  Could be used to knock a planet closer to a star.

Anything else you come up with, just say.

Portable Games / Contact
« on: September 03, 2006, 05:49:26 am »
Ok, you might not have heard about this game.  It is an action RPG coming out for the DS and is very Earthbound like.  For those of you who don't know what Earth bound is Wiki it.  So,  it has you controling this guy, Terry, and the bottom screen has great graphics (but it's nothing compared to FF3).  The ad in Nintendo Power is pretty funny and odd and I think the whole games like that cause you use stickers to increase your powers and stuff (wtf?) and you where Costumes to have special abilities.  And they have this whole thing about "It's not you playing a character you've never played, your're playing as you" or somthing like that but anyway this game is looking really neat, comes out the 19th of September in U.S. and always,  Europe gets it late.  In Europe it's sometime in October.  Also, the whoel thing about the player being a character is that the Profeser in the top screen needs to contact, hence the name, Terry again to help him find power cells to repair the Ship.  Enough blathering, check it out your self.

Edit:Nevermind, the url thingy being bitchy.  Just go to Wikipedia, search it and choose Contact for the DS.

PC Games / Elevon Trailer on X-fire
« on: August 14, 2006, 05:46:41 pm »
So, if you have X-fire you might want to check it out, it looks really good, looks fun and everything seems really cool except for one thing.  The british voice acting, dont have anything against the Brits, wonderful people even if we diid kick their collective ass twice.  But for some reason, the accent on the trailer really annoyed me and I hope they choose a better voiceactor next time.

Is it the thing Steve showed us awhile ago, the handheld gamecube?  Or is it something diffrent?  what is your take on this intresting news.  Here is the quote "may be used in a handheld that may play GameCube games could be the paragraph that outed the source's origin. Loose lips sink ships."
