PC Games / GOMtv Update
« on: June 13, 2009, 09:36:02 am »
Original thread:

Heh, I'm a bit surprised how little attention this has been getting here. Guess the people at gamingsteve aren't the esports crowd.

Anyways for those interested GOM has also started streaming a Warcraft 3 tournament:

The starcraft commentators have also set up an 'foreign' (that is, non-korean) tournament on the site:

Meanwhile the tournament that started it all, the Averec-Intel Classic is in its third season:

we're moving towards the quarter-finals. Jaedong and Flash are still in it, but some of the new players like Effort are also really good. The competition is really heating up, so if you want to step in and start watching now's a good time. ;)

Yes. Because that is smart marketing.

These things happen and have happened all the time with pretty much every popular game out there that has expansion of some sort. This does not surprise me, and it shouldn't surprise you.
Yeah, but.... this soon after initial release is really just rubbing our noses in it. =3

Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it.

Is it EA's at fault for charging that price?  Or the consumer's at fault for paying that price?
QFT, EA's isn't running a charity, as much as we might wish it would.

I've seen some bright green lights every now and then, always on the corner of my screen out of the corner of my eye. There's a little spacey sound that plays, too.

Has anyone seen this / know what this is?
You see and hear this whenever the AI colonies or terraforms a star.

My own personal opinion is that it's not a big deal. Content was meant to be shared.

However, I think there has been enough complaining about it that maybe they are considering a way to show the lineage, who made it first, who edited it and so on. I'm not sure what they might do, I just know that they're aware of the complaints.
I'd prefer this to. I mean it isn't even that -my- stuff might get stolen or something, but I don't like it that if I show a friend my sporepedia page, they'd have to sift through the 90% recolours to find the stuff that's actually mine. I mean, as is you can't even tell the difference. :-\

It doesn't remove the complexity limit, just increases it by tenfold or something, I guess it's the max they can do before the thing starts to break.

wait, what is spode? i have heard it a lot recently...
It's the 'religion' of the races with the zealot philosophy. They are by far the most mindlessly aggressive and obnoxious of all AI's, hence people's general dislike for them. They don't really make a difference between other zealot's though, I've seen plenty of instance of two Spode 'following' civ's warring against each other.

I'm not exactly a japanese literate person, but after years of being an anime fan *cough*avatar*cough* I do have a bit of knowledge of how the systems work, so I managed to use some internet tools to look it up for you. ;)

地球人 【ちきゅうじん】 (n) earthling; earthman; ED

Pronounciation: Chikiyuujin

You've made me really curious though, how do these fella's look? ;D Show us a screenshot!

I love how every evolutionary step of the creatures are uploaded, seeing a critter that just popped out of the soup, then seeing the evolutions of it as you progress through the creature map is sweet, I make a point of evolving my creatures everytime his brain grows, there should however be an option to store creations on your harddrive only, and not in cyberspace.
There is. It's called Log-Out.
Only problem is that you then don't get any new content from cyberspace either.
It's a give and take relationship. If you want Sporepedia to give you content you have to be willing to give your content to it too. It's only fair.
That's no excuse for having Sporepedia plaster all your recolours across the web under your name though.

« on: September 21, 2008, 10:23:33 am »
why won't the patch intall properly, it get to the patching files screen and then stops responding
It just takes a long time.
Leave it running for an hour and if it still hasn't finished then there might be something wrong.

But if you haven't been having major problems without the patch I'd suggest not patching the game.
There have been so many problems happening to people who did patch.
I got sick of the problems and tried to un-patch my game but I couldn't get it to work without the patch anymore.
To be clear -most- people don't have a problem with the patch. But considering that for those who do have problems it can amount to making the game literally unplayable due to constant immediate crashing, there's really not enough in this patch that's work risking breaking your entire game over to get before they fix it (whenever that'll be). You can try if you're feeling lucky (or don't care about losing all your current saves to unpatch), but you'll be hitting yourself for it if it doesn't work out. :-\

1. I've got religious vehicles, with speed up to 32% , religion is 52% and health , i dont know somewhere in between.

I suspect that i should revise my vehicles a bit befor I try to take the next offensive.

My city produces 4.000 sporedollars/minute, .

I have to use my superpower even: when I'm deploying my first batch of vehicles, cause by the moment they arrive, the other's have already brought the helth of half of my vehicles down to 50, so i need to do a timed aura: and then i can up the religious conversion a bit.
I'm not sure how exactly your situation is, but I played on hard (pre-patch) as a religious civ and was completely unable to expand. As soon as I took a city a giant bunch of ships and planes showed up from another faction and took it. I managed to get through it though, eventually, here's how I did it:

1) Step one, sweet talk the most powerfull neighbour you have. Make sure to use lots of cash, make them your friend.
2) Step two, once they like you enough to ally, try stealing spice geysers from factions they're attacking and conquering. Basically go kill stealing them.
3) Step three, wait and wait. I waited till they had conquered the entire continent and where in a some-what stalemate with the last other faction. At this point they'd put all their land vehicles by their capital and their ships and aircraft where way off.
4) Step four, get money, lots of money, not sure how many but enough to insta-build your max vehicle cap twice over.
5) Step five, pearl harbour for the win, catch their army unawares and make full use of religious splash damage. Just keep pumping vehicles as soon as you lose any.

I was basically stuck to just my capital city for all the way till step five, at which point I just quickly blitzkrieged the red's (the 'ally' in my game) and used their cities to mass-produce more units and quickly steamrolled the world. I took their land-based cities first to avoid having to deal with their navy till I was ready. Oh, not sure how well it works but I did have a pretty happy populous so I had the double production bonus from happiness nearly constantly.

  - If you don't have megabombs, or don't have the budget, but you have picked up some fancy land modelling tools like Crystal Seas or Terra Seas, use it on your enemies. It is an instakill. -Yannick

I've tried using Terra seas, it doesn't work, all it does is make the colony a coastal city, this may be something new with the patch.
Isn't that a good tip for making coastal cities for your own colonies?
<---------- tried but hasn't succeeded in making colonies be coastal.
Can somebody say if this works? (my copy is suffering from patch problems so I won't be able to test it till it's fixed)

Spore: General / Re: Collective Patch Issues
« on: September 19, 2008, 03:36:29 pm »

They haven't pulled the patch, so I would assume most people aren't having issues.

Don't bet on it.

Theres tons of complaints on the official forum too.
I bet on it, now it crashes as soon as I load my save, so I'd suggest that no, it's not a bet worth taking. :-\ If the game's playing fine no need to potentially risk blowing it up, no?

I had pretty much the same thing eventually, so I just buddied everybody from the gamingsteve sporecast. It's a bit of a work-around but untill they manage to fix this it's your best bet.

I'm done with this, not even going to bother patching at all.

Seems pointless to do it as I keep getting error messages while trying to patch.

EADM has been removed from my computer, AGAIN....

* Sigh *
Between not getting the patch to work and the patch breaking the entire game, I think you've got the better deal mate. :-\ I'd direct you to fileplanet to get the patch but as is you're really better off not getting it till it's fixed.
