Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?
-
what did i miss? o.O
-
oh god what
-
Stalin sure had great hair though, didn't he? :^)
-
Oh, he actually did it.
What a doofus.
-
I didn't need those 4000 posts anyway.
-
Nice Stars, nerds.
-
Oh, he actually did it.
What a doofus.

-
Delet this.
-
Hey Inkling I'll send you a picture of a twix bar if you delete this thread
-
well that was selfish.
he took the random image bonanza too.
-
We'll make a new image bonanza. DUMBER THAN EVER.
-
Well, the only thing he left is his RP post, so again, so self centered he left the things he directly created rather than allowing the forum to just be, he took out all the PC Games posts, his console posts, just a total *******
What the hell, man? At least delete that **** too
edit: can we get this stuff back or did he take his ball and go home like a bitch?
-
I have no idea, but honestly, who cares?
We can just make new topics. Is anyone that interested in knowing what any of us said about like, Bioshock 2 when it came out?
-
Idk, feels like a portion of the culture here was selfishly stripped by a jerk, and I'd rather not see it successful, so I'm hoping to get it back but if that's not possible I suppose we'll move on then
-
But don't you see erops? The forum isn't the bits and bloops that make up the board. The forum is you and me and everyone else. Truly the forum is in all of our hearts, and that's something that can never be deleted. ;)
-
yeah, i don't think it's a big deal. not like we were going back and reading it all.
so uh... how's everyone doing this week?
-
Sure, but the typed posts are what make up the sum of what we are, so to take that from us in such an unjustified manner is kind of a dick move, that frustrates me
I'm meh this week, got remicade yesterday and starting my 60 hour soon shift bby
-
well honestly, strip away all the goobiness from sam's post and that's how i feel. over time this forum gradually just become a backdrop to my one-on-one chats with those of you i talk to regularly (not to say i wouldnt love to talk to the rest of you.)
new start, baby!
60 hour shift? like... im assuming those arent consecutive hours? O_O
-
meh, might as well be, 2pm-3am 5 days
-
I take it pat has left the building?
-
Yes he died on the ****ter after eating an epic fools gold loaf.
-
Oh dear
-
Well I'm disappointed
All those posts are gone
-
Well, there is the wayback machine.
-
The past is past
We can make new posts, better posts!
-
I'm glad at least the rp stuff is still there, we put a lot of work into those. Don't taunt the dynamite monkey any further into deleting what's left
Hey Inkling I'll send you a picture of a twix bar if you delete this thread
I am insulted. I'm disgusted that you think I'd be swayed by such a suggestion.
It'd take a picture of at least five twix bars.
-
twix bars the worst
snickers are better
-
You are entitled to your opinions, even though they are wrong.
-
How dare you Ink
your clearly hungry, you're not you when your hungry
eat a snickers
-
I was about to defend snickers but then Ulti started being a shill for the Mars Corporation and quoting their commercials verbatim. The best chocolate/candy bar is Daim.
-
Shilling for candy companies makes me so mad I start throwing things. Kinda like this!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0c2gMuJfZg
-
im no shill
im a real boy!
-
So is Pat banned at this point in time?
-
What would be the point?
-
I dunno
-
Aw he took the photo thread, too, there's picture in there that go way back :(

Who's to say the marketing company didn't pay the recording studio to produce a hit song they would later co-opt to their product?
*cough*Chris Brown Forever and Doublemint gum *cough*
Edit: relevant link https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB121721123435289073, your song might be too old but eh, it's all ****ed
-
I'm glad at least the rp stuff is still there, we put a lot of work into those. Don't taunt the dynamite monkey any further into deleting what's left
Mrmmm... I'd say we put a lot of work into a lot of what he decided we no longer deserved

well, I'm not made of stone
-
I really hate the trend of TV programmes and films using pop-songs as incidental music instead of having their own soundtrack.
-
I don't mind it. It's cheaper/easier to just pay for royalties for an existing song than to get an in-house musician, and often helps promote small time musicians to a larger audience. Or, if you take Westworld's or Black Mirror's example, helps create a sense of familiarity that is otherwise impossible with an OST.
The problem is that most of the time they're wispy hipster acoustic covers of The Smiths or something.
-
It works if there's an emotional connection established with the actual show or movie.
Obviously it works just great in Guardians of the Galaxy. 80s pop fits the tone of the movie perfectly and it's directly connected with the main character.
In the case of Westworld if I recall all the pop music featured is Scott Bradlee style low-fi covers using period instruments, which means someone had to make the effort to arrange and record those covers and it adds to the anachronistic themes in the show.
The problem is laziness, like it's always been. :P
-
So i've just finished watching the mini series of Over the Garden Wall
And now I'm sad.but happy
-
Over the Garden Wall is fantastic, you chose well. Now be sure to watch it in the fall as intended.
-
Oh hey I'm back and apparently missed heaps of drama.
I do not entirely understand what happened, but I hope everyone is okay.
Over the Garden Wall is fantastic, you chose well. Now be sure to watch it in the fall as intended.
Seconded.
-
Pat had apparently had enough of the forum and was in a petty, bridge-burning mood.
-
Well, he's now reaching out (secretly? cowardly?), to people under a pseudonym in an effort to maintain the relationships he decided to uniformly hurt, what a guy
-
I just told him I hope he's doing well. Dick move, but obviously the guy's under a lot of stress
-
This whole thingy is getting messy,I just don't want to make it worse
-
Sure, I can understand being under stress. I cannot understand releasing that upon those I claim to care about in a way that would do the most damage in the quickest way possible to the most amount of those who I claimed to care for. So sure, as someone who I used to care for, I hope he as a human being is doing well, but im still upset yo, haha
What's there to make worse, the whole thing's in ruins, just gotta rebuild the content as it came the first time, through discussion of **** we want to talk about.
I'm sorry I keep bringing this back like I'm dwelling but I do still have a sense like someone in my surrogate family hurt everyone in the family and bailed and that edge will stay with me for a bit until I have moved on, unfortunately.
-
that reminds me i'd been fantasizing about getting on a plane and ditching for a couple months to somewhere else in canada not necessarily as a vacation but just because i hate being here
i'd probably hate being there too though i don't know maybe not
there is no real plan there though basically i just wanna see what happens
im not gonna do it though it was just a scenario that played out in my head i guess
-
Just as long as you don't burn all your goofy drawings on the way out.
Oh man I hope some Original Gauphs weren't destroyed in the Patastrophe.
-
Naw, imageshack wiped out a lot of stuff.
I do have everything saved on my drive here. No worries there. I like all this junk.
-
Do you guys drink much coffee? I've never until I started this cookie thing now I think I'm probably developing a caffeine dependency...
-
I dont touch the vile stuff,I am however a tea addict
-
I mean ok, is caffeine caffeine, then? Like are we in the same boat when it comes to fiendin?
-
Not quite the same type of dependency no
-
Caffeine is the only thing keeping me upright when at work, but I try to keep my tolerance low.
-
What's that mean, you can build up an immunity? Does it taper with non use?
-
Caffeine huffing degenerates. I'm straight edge. 8)
-
that's like the only thing straight about you, broh.
-
Snap
-
Oh hey! It's Doctor Z!
From past times!
-
I practically live off of caffeine, without it I'm like a comatose zombie half the time. Ha, 'health'. The low-carb Monsters are like my lifeblood, kidneys be damned.
On an unrelated note, I try to pop back in every so often, even if I don't say much if anything. Not sure how ginger I should be here but I did NOT expect to see the boards coming up a few topics lighter.
-
Oh hey! It's Grox Glitch!
From past times! :D
On an unrelated note, I try to pop back in every so often, even if I don't say much if anything. Not sure how ginger I should be here but I did NOT expect to see the boards coming up a few topics lighter.
I'm still mostly confused by the decisions that led to this more than anything else and am trying my best to fill in certain unknown details with my imagination.
Welcome back!
I hope you've been well.
-
It's okay, you can admit to having red hair. This is a safe space.
-
Caffeine makes me jittery and shaky, and makes me feel tired while simultaneously removing my ability to sleep.
I really only drink it if there's an actual danger of me falling asleep doing something, which is pretty rare.
-
Welcome back!
I hope you've been well.
Thanks! I've been quite well, to be honest! Can't really complain, life has decided to be somewhat nice to me recently. Waiting for that to change abruptly and horribly lol
It's okay, you can admit to having red hair. This is a safe space.
I dunno man. I don't know if I can be open about such a private and controversial thing, I just don't think I'm ready yet. It's too much.
-
I can't remember the name of the memory-enhancing compound I wrote a wikipedia page for.
Irony is cruel.
-
That's because I secretly dosed you with Metamem, the drug that blocks memories pertaining to memory drugs.
-
If you used an account you could just look up the contributions.
Edit: Somewhere in here, maybe? (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/brandonazz&offset=&limit=500&target=Brandonazz)
-
I didn't say that I forgot how to use Wikipedia, Ovi.
-
Well, I guess I don't consider remembering how to find the answer the same as forgetting it.
-
Externalising cognition and creating memory proxies, it's what the cool kids are doing 8)
-
Hey kids at home we sure had fun today, but lets remember our most valuable lesson
Always remember to say no memory enhancers, and don't you forget it!
-
What, no.
Super memory drugs for everyone! I will become the man who is in all places at once!
-
But we just had an hour long very special episode where you promised to say no memory enhancers!
-
Well, I guess I don't consider remembering how to find the answer the same as forgetting it.
Well that's because it isn't the same, and nobody said it was.
Forgetting it is the same as forgetting it.
Which is what happened.
Or does owning a dictionary mean I know the definition of every English word?
Knowing how to google isn't the same as remembering everything on the internet.
learn2externalize bro
-
Nah come on Brandon. Looking stuff up is basically the same as remembering, it just takes longer.
Learn2tapin2universalmind bruh
-
Yeah. I own a dictionary so that I have more room in my tiny meatbrain for more important things, like anime tiddy.
-
Owning a dictionary is just keeping your language skills in The Cloud

youre welcome can we touch butts now
-
eww gross how lewd
-
(http://generated.inspirobot.me/056/aXm4454xjU.jpg)
Uh.. what?
-
So Pat decided to go crazy, huh.
Good for him. If you see him, tell him I said hi.
-
In fact if anyone knows how to contact him, I'd like to say hi myself.
I had him as a Facebook friend, but I had my own freakout and deleted all my facebook friends last Christmas. We used to chat there sometimes.
So if anyone can drop him a message that I'd like to be in contact again, that would be great.
-
He's still on steam.
-
How do I find him on Steam, though? There's a lot of Pat Mans there. But not a single PatMan33.
-
Diff account name. I remember asking about it. Pretty sure it's still artyomsmalls.
I had him on my list but decided against it later.
-
Found him, thank you!
Yay!
-
Did you kick his butt?
-
yes touch the butt
make first contact
-
Sorry, I've been having a busy month.
Are we all touching butts again? Is that back in fashion?
-
Do I look like I know anything about what is and isn't in fashion?
-
Recommend me a good yet not-obviously-well-known science fiction series or movie.
Pls
-
Dark City
aka The Matrix for Goths (and also it came out before the Matrix)
-
Ooo, I like Dark City.
EDIT: Though I swear I've had a conversation like this with Brandon before way back and he said he'd seen it.
Could be misremembering though.
-
Moon I guess?
Though everyone knows that one by now.
And if you're ok with a book there's Perdido Street Station.
People like that one, but I havent read it myself yet so I dunno.
-
What kind of sci-fi are you looking for?
-
I hear The Expanse is good.
I know The Strain is not good but I still enjoy it.
-
What kind of sci-fi are you looking for?
This is an important question!
Space Opera?
Cyberpunk?
Post-Apocolypse?
Contemporary?
Robots?
Aliens?
Giant monsters?
There are many options.
-
Space Opera isn't Sci-fi >:(
Star Wars isn't Sci-fi.
I'll fight anyone who says a Star War is a scifi
-
Star War is a scifi.
-
Why isn't it sci fi
-
deep space nine lol
-
Why isn't it sci fi
cause it ain't "science" fiction - sci-fi is meant to imagine consequences of technological and scientific advances and how they impact society
it's often considered "science fantasy" which is a blend of sci fi and fantasy
deep space nine lol

This is weird, right? That the word no one is arguing about is the one that's dropped but the one in contention stays?
Get your act together, English, you're embarrassing us.
-
Eh, I tend to call it space fantasy.
Space Opera is a nice one as well and certainly applies to the Star War

Yeah was thinking that while I was typing it. Bad words!!
-
It's strange to me this thread hasn't been touched in two weeks (I'm back for my bi-monthly attempt at posting, whee!) but if you take the science part off entirely, Star Wars is most definitely more fantasy than fiction, and it's definitely more 'sciencey' in comparison to more fantastical stuff like LOTR, say
RELATED: Cowboy bebop is incredible and very much science fiction :V

ps. why'd my name get changed back from GalacticWeirdo? I refuse to represent the interests of small, peculiarly named candies any longer!

Most/some of us are on discord now,but I'd imagine a few are disheartened by the huge betrayal and destruction of our shared and personal histories that it's tough to get back into
-
I think discord is drawing in a lot of the talk we'd usually have around here.
So uh, anything interesting from Comicon?
-
There's a discord now?
-
I copied the share link properly, I think, so this will allegedly get you there: https://discord.gg/WeANCdM
-
If any of ya'll think it's time for a change and are willing to uproot to Seattle, we have very much a need for a baker, or someone who has a brain who can learn to be a baker and hopefully also enjoy it. We will pay mid 30s, which for the area admittedly won't get you super far but you won't be eating ramen every night. You'll basically be making cookie dough, baking cookies, delivering cookies to our store, and being responsible for coming up with a new cookie each month preferably. Ours left this month to go back to live with family in another state and my partner feels up against the wall, :\
PM or discord or reach out if you are interested. I'm unable to provide any sort of shelter so that'd also be on you if you decided to make the leap,
Edit: okay he found someone from our current employee reference, we were that desperate to get someone in there to help it seems :/ if it doesn't work out I'll keep ya posted
-
Ink just do it, make the sitcom happen. Heal America.
-
But I don't even like sitcoms.
Also I managed to escape my custom built purgatory and got a new job, forgot to mention it.
Erops, you should look around and see if there's a temp or job placement place that covers your industry, for the next time you need to fill a spot fast. I have no idea if that's a thing for bakeries/restaurants specifically, but it seems like something worth checking. Have you done much networking or reached out to any small business stuff in the area? There may be advice and resources available that we wouldn't know to think of.

Cool,how was it?
-
Pretty cool, worked for a bit, met some great people, got married, finally went to Bosnia.
-
Congrats!
-
You're gonna have to elaborate on the "got married". We didn't even know you had a girl(boy?)friend.
-
Married for 6 days in Hungary to another backpacker. Probably won't see eachother again but it was funny to see everyone's reactions back home

another backpacker

Did you get it annuled properly? The last thing you want is some legal kerfuffel where she turns up out of nowhere and takes half your Playstation.
-
Pretty sure the ceremony wasn't that legal in the first place.
-
i hope you consummated it
-
lol
-
yeah dude pour some consomme into your new wife to celebrate do it all the time
-
thanks for the weird game wizard you little monkey
edit: i posted this in the wrong thread whatever
-
They finally made a dishonest man out of you, Plank.
-
please don't joke about my extremely real and incredibly 100% valid marriage that exists in the real world
-
Pretty sure the ceremony wasn't that legal in the first place.
OOOH you fell for the infamous fake(not fake) backpacker wedding scam!!! Get ready to pay alimony for a bunch of Bosnian kids.
-
Jokes on you, if Bosnia gets into the EU I keep my farming subsidies or whatever reason it was I voted remain for
-
Bosnos will never get into the EU now, it's on lockdown.
-
Married for 6 days in Hungary to another backpacker. Probably won't see eachother again but it was funny to see everyone's reactions back home
Hot. That's a hot way to live.
-
I am also back from a wild land where they don't speak English.
By that I mean I'm back from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Didn't do anything quite as fun as get married, but I did go on a date with someone else I was working with. It was great, until she ghosted me.
-
I hear people do that a lot. Kind of a dick move, but also kind of understandable. Dating these days seems like hell.
-
What's ghosting again? Is that the one where someone kills themselves rather than spend another goddamn second with you?
-
Possibly. Or, you just don't reply to any message sent by any method.
-
What Ink said. Only in this case it was completely ignoring me at a party she said she wasn't going to.
-
I wish I had never found reddit. That place has the worst human beings on the internet.
But what else am I going to do with my time now???
-
I like it. Best and worse, good slices of whacky info mixed with a ton of hot air bull****
-
My rule is to stick to a few sub reddits and that's it
-
Same, just a few:
Help.
-
Oh Lordy
-
Yeah but when it comes to any substantial discussion, reddit is just the worst place. People will just downvote anything they disagree with, no matter how good your argument. And upvote all your mindless puns. That's no way to have an actual discussion.
-
that's only really the case for large subreddits. smaller ones with good rules+moderation feel more like actual communities
-
Like /r/ Science or /r/ AskHistorians
Best subbits there are in my experience
-
/r/science is depressing if anything. every climate story just ruins my soul
-
Wow!!!
Just randomly decided to see if this place was still around. I joined before high school, and now it's after college. How's everyone been?
-
Older and more bitter.
-
Yep, sounds about right for myself too.
-
So how's life after college?
-
Eh, only been 8 months... Still sucks. Harder than expected to find work. A lot of weird shenanigans in the last 5 years for sure.
Also, holy hell. I creeped on some people I used to talk to, seeing if they were still around. Badger is a gal now, that's surprising.
-
oh, yeah, a lot of unxpctd stuff happened over the years I guess.
The forum is slow these days, we tend to hang out on discord. I'd tell you which channel but I haven't figured out how to invite people to discord >_>
-
How come no one has told me about this secret discord channel.
Is it only for the POPULAR kids?
-
Here is a handy guide on how to invite btw. https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/204155938-How-do-I-invite-friends-to-my-server-
Now INVITE US.
-
I can tell, probably a lot of people just left for Reddit, also the forum being over 12 years old.
-
Let's not leave for Reddit, reddit sucks. Now where's the Discord channel?
I miss our IRC chats.
-
Here you go. (https://discord.gg/tArqjR)
-
Don't mind if I do.
-
Hi
-
heyyy hows it goin
-
I saw that LadyM was streaming a few weeks back. PUBG's a great game.
-
My friend gave me some shrooms and I realised that people form their idea of me based on a few short exchanges. No one knows what my life is actually like. They just know what I was like the few times they talked to me.
Just came to mind that people probably base their opinions of me on stuff that are completely meaningless to me, but it may be the only thing they remember about me since they were around at that time. But for me, tons of stuff has happened since then. Something that seems to me to have been ages ago may be the most recent memory about me to someone.
Weird.
-
So how were the shrooms?
-
How'd you get em
Man I'd like to score some serious but I'm too inept to figure out how or who haha
-
Gosh erops even I know how to find shrooms. All you have to do is befriend a Finnish person, apparently.
-
Either have hippie friends or buy them on the darkweb with bitcoins.
-
i hear drugs are bad and you should Just Say No
-
Shrooms are one thing I'd like to try myself as well. There've been studies done, and psilocybin gives you about an extra half a standard deviation of "Openness to Experience", which is the psychological dimension corresponding roughly to things like creativity, curiosity, and receptiveness to emotional experiences. Based just on that, they're the only drug I'm aware of that might legitimately be called "mind-expanding". Hard to get in the states, yeah.
-
When I had shrooms I fell into a toilet. Not anything shrooms related I'm just an idiot
-
They grow wild everywhere here this time of year.
Some people think that’s why Samhain and by extension Halloween are things
-
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat
-
weren't the salem witch trials a thing because the town well was contaminated with shrooms and the entire town was tripping balls?
-
That's one theory.
Personally I wouldn't underestimate the power of people to kill a bunch of innocent women without the excuse of ergot poisoning.
-
I wonder if violent behavior has decreased somewhat because we can satisfy our bloodlust with things like movies and video games now.
-
Or maybe it's simply because we killed all the witches.
-
Hey Irish people, you okay after Ophelia?
-
You've been on my mind girl since the flood
-
Hey Irish people, you okay after Ophelia?
Here in Dublin it was pretty disappointing. Huge fuss in the city, people here didn't know what to expect at all. Went into work and everyone was complaining that everyone else they knew had had their work cancelled. Eventually the boss came in to a sea of displeased faces and made the call. All public transport got suspended for the day a couple hours later so it was a good thing - I would've been stuck.
But then it came and it sucked/blew (I was hoping for something a little more dramatic), it was real windy but not dangerously so. We did lose our doormat though. RIP. We also lost power from 9pm to midnight.
My dad was down south in rural Cork and it was way worse there, it blew the roof off a school. The country had three deaths, all from falling trees.
Yesterday the weather was back to being perfectly normal, except the trees are noticeably more bare than before.
And we have "Storm Brian" coming over the weekend, too! Thanks, climate change!
-
Meanwhile we had a freaky morning on Monday, where the Sun was a perfect red disk and it generally resembled an episode of Daredevil.
-
You get a temperate climate from the gulf stream, or you get to be storm-free. This is the price you pay!
-
Finland gets temperate climate from the gulf stream and no major storms. Win-win!

Disappointing?
Hear hear, more death and destruction! Thank god for storm Brian, may it mow down the rest of Ireland.
-
Remeber. If you get tornados, light fire to woodland areas or any lager flammable area for that matter! You will get awesome firenados of death! That will help clear out Irland.
-
St Patrick shouldn't have stopped at the snakes.
-
Oh hey it is November!
You know what that means?
Because I don't. I don't know what anything means anymore. I took a quiz to tell me what kind of quiz I was and it told me I was a dumb quiz. The world is and has always been confusing.
Also please don't let this community die.
I know it's slightly more work than some places, but it's the only place online I don't feel like my participation is being soul-crushingly gamified by a points/likes system, or picked apart for a corporate branding agenda, or the political machinations of Russian internet trolls or someone else.
A lot of the huge other social sites leave me with this weird sick unsatisfied empty feeling, like everyone's competing and trying to destroy each other and there's no warmth.
We have had our ups, downs, problems, and undeniable drama here. It's not as fast paced as some other places. But I genuinely feel better after spending time here than I do sooo many places online. I don't know.
A crowd-sourced, algorithm based editorial voice isn't necessarily bad, but it gets reaaaal tiresome and repetitive.
I want this place, flaws and all.
-
Discord is fairly active. It's not the same, but communities evolve. I'm enjoying the immediacy of the conversation there.
-
This place won't die. Just post interesting stuff. Totally beat that stupid newfangled facebook thingy at least!

I agree wholeheartedly. Posting on Reddit just kills my soul. This place warms my heart.

That's why lately I've been subscribing to subbreddits of animals being adorable. It helps.
-
Me too!

Hey. Hey, do you think your cupholders are good enough?
You're wrong.

Cherish our banner ads. They are the path to truth.
-
Yeah I heard that Cuphold game is real good.
-
I haven't played Cuphead, but if at least one villain or attack move isn't named "The Cup Holder" I will be severely disappointed.
-
hey sgore how was your day?
-
It is still happening!
I just got to work.
I work into late times and I just got there to start doing it.
Thank you for asking!
How was yours?
-
it was alright. i dont work on weekends so i basically just sat around reading, watching tv, and suffering mild parental passive-aggression
-
What are you reading?!
!?
I am always interested in whatever anyone is reading?!
!?
-
Well, I just finished reading Paradise Lost, which took me the better part of 3 months (mostly because I went on a working holiday for a month). So I wanted to pick up some light reading. But nowhere had the next Star Wars book I need to read, Dark Disciple.
So I picked up To Kill A Mockingbird, because I've never read it, and I'm almost done with it.
-
i'm reading 2 (well, like 8, going back three years, but...) books at the moment
homo deus (which i believe sam also read), which is a book about anthropology and the future of humans
la belle sauvage, which, admittedly, is kind of for kids - it's the first book of a new trilogy in the setting of the his dark materials trilogy (the northern lights/golden compass, the subtle knife, the amber spyglass)
-
All neat!
I'm reading Infinite Jest.
It's been a while since I started, and I've read some other things in-between, but I'm about halfway through, but I'm enjoying it!
-
I got about a third of the way into it before I got tired of constantly going and finding the right footnote.
I may try again on an ebook version where I can just click hyperlinks, though.
-
La Belle Sauvage is for ""Young Adults"" and I guess also adults. It has more statutory rape and peril than is typical for a kids book.
-
I've been rereading J.C. McCrae's Worm, a superhero serial novel, in preparation to begin reading its sequel Ward.
If you're looking for something very long, very dark, with a living and breathing world that feels as if it extends beyond what you see on the page, I recommend it. It's pretty good.
I've also been reading the author's other works, Pact and Twig. Pact is an urban fantasy. Twig is story where instead of machinery and physics, science moved in the direction of biology and genetics. It follows a group of young experimental weapons made from children or built to look like it.
The author is pretty good at writing about people and, interestingly, small-unit tactics. It makes for fun reading.
-
Been meaning to go back and read Worm for a while now, I think I read the first chapter.
-
Yeah, I keep hearing good things about it, and it sounds right up my alley, but I haven't had the time to read anything in a long time.
-
It's a solid setting with a decent story. Gets a lot of mileage out of varied powers and creative uses of them.
Just be aware that, as many people call it "gritty and realistic", it's mostly the former. It's a story about bad things happening and the survivors moving on more than it is a dissection of the genre.
-
Cibola Burn is gr8
-
I couldn't find it on the forum, I must've said in discord that I hoped the Weinstein accusations would start a cascade effect. Hoo boy, have we gotten that. Matt Lauer is the latest one out. I'm going to pretend that the Garrison Keillor one didn't happen and he just retired.
-
sure wish trump would go down in this
god im just so ****ing tired of the guy, wont someone please rid us of this meddlesome president

The swamp fog this morning makes me feel like someone in a horror movie.

You only really need to start worrying if you hear an air raid siren. Or see a hulking man with a pyramid for a head as he's an iconic series monster, despite the fact the monsters are supposed to represent a personal part of your psyche.
-
I hope Wizard isn't on fire.
-
if you set a wizard on does he still cast spells?
-
If there's anyone I trust to take on the wildfires, it's Mr. Wizard. (and also a series of emergency response professionals including but not limited to firefighters.)
I too hope he's okay, though!
-

Impossible!

No, you're fine. I was referencing an obscure cartoon.
-
i'M mighty fine I must admit
-
Wait, what're we on about now? I keep dropping out of the timestream and into this topic every few weeks so I have trouble following the conversation.
Also, who's Emmet? Ya'll need to stop changing your names when I'm not paying attention.

Merry Christmas everybody!

Happy new years everybody!

Hooray! 2018!
We did it! :D
This is the year Rollerball takes place apparently.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollerball_(1975_film) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollerball_(1975_film))
I have never seen Rollerball.
-
Let's all watch it and laugh at the probable lack of flat-screened computing devices.
-
I would be open to this.
Whatever happened to that chat website that let you sync up videos to watch with people?
-
There are probably several different versions now that nobody knows about.
-
Important point.
But comparing nearly identical websites comes with its own problems.
Which one has the best features to malware ratio?
Which one has the least chat lag for second by second riffing?
The least uncomfortable unrelated banner ads in case people walk by and see my screen?
People with opinions?
There's a world of research to open up here and I will have to get back to you.
It may take years before I reach a conclusive answer.
-
Okay never mind I found one.

Happy New Years
I miss y'all
Hope everyone is finding some happiness
-
Hopefully so!
How has your 2018 been so far?
-
Awful.
I found on payday last Friday that I'm not being paid my final paycheck until next month because somebody else messed up. I was not told until I asked. I have heard nothing back. Although I have just completed by exit questionnaire. Precisely one 'satisfied' answer, and that's only because I like some members of staff.
I don't have a job. I'm back living with my parents, far away from my friends. I don't feel constructively creative. Everything just feels out of my control.
-
Haseri!
I'm sorry to hear you're going through a difficult time.
I'm not great at advice, but you're a talented person and your presence is always appreciated and I genuinely hope the best for you.
-
Thanks sgore. At my most positive, I'm trying to see this as a reset, and I was paid my deposit, so I have some money at least.
-
Hope things are turning up for you
-
I've probably passed the lowest point. I have a path of sorts, and I'm letting myself have fun, like auditioning for an improv marathon (26 hours of long-form improvisation) this evening.
I also did actually do one of my new year's resolutions: a creative writing blog (http://patterninthestatic.wordpress.com). It's pretty empty at the moment, but I alternate days between writing and job hunting.
-
We're all rooting for you, Haseri. I've found that it helps to set smaller goals to help give you a sense of accomplishment, like turning in x job applications a day.
-
Woah, necropost! Does this even count for as slow as things have been around here?
Sorry to hear your year's gone to crap, Haseri, but I'm glad to hear it's been on the upswing now. Mine hasn't been much better either, for what it's worth, so at least you're not alone.
I've been working on a resolution to lose some weight finally and it's been sorta working so far, so that's going well. It's at least got me paying attention to what I eat and my calorie intake, which is nice. Even went out and bought a FitBit.
-
Cool. I've also been going to taido and taking gym classes.
-
I've been running up my home staircase and then back down my home staircase a bunch.
-
I'm just imagining you living a huge castle and running up and down a grand staircase
-
I guess the member image thread disappeared in the patocalypse?
Anyway, I dyed my hair.

I've been reminded that it's the one year anniversary of the Patpocalypse. I propose turning it into our Guy Fawkes Day.
-
Remember remember the sixteenth of may...?
-
still feels like yesterday. though, losing things you care for does tend to sting and sting for a long time
-
Yeah, but then you accept the fact they're gone and you move on to other things
.
-
Aww I came back here on a whim and it's all sad and empty, and here I had hoped that it would be like some of my facebook groups, low but consistent activity, but it's really so dead it makes the "dead" it got called a lot back in 2011ish look bustling. Definitely miss it here (some members quite a bit), even though I never fit in even a tenth as well as I do now in said facebook group-of-groups. But then small internet forums like this really have fallen way to large social media websites even more so than back then.
-
Come join us on Discord! It's pretty active.
-
Kenotai!
We've certainly hit a slow point.
Like a really slow point.
A really really slow point.
Anyway, this is the discord, if you aren't already there: https://discord.gg/Q7f8z3

This forum has been half of my life for longer than I can properly recall. Thank you all for being my voices in the dark.
LadyM, /lurk, Krakow Sam, Emmet: you will be a part of me until I die.
Live long, and live with joy.
-
Did I just miss the forum being officially declared dead? I just got a strong urge to check up here. Are we folding up the chairs?
-
I don't think that's how it works.
The space is as much here as it ever was for as long as it is.
And always welcome for people to come and go as they please.
-
It lives!
-
If you try to take my folding chair from me there's gonna be a fight, Slinky.
-
I don't know why I come back here as often as I do recently. Not much to check up on, really.
It's like some kind of weird pilgrimage or maybe a memento mori?
Hope all of you are doing well, anyway!
-
I think it's kinda like how you visit the graves of dead relatives.
Just paying respects to all the fond memories you had together.
-
We're not dead!
-
We're not dead!
Yeah!
I mean, I thought I was dead earlier.
I'm not, thankfully, I found out.
Ran some tests and am still currently pretty alive.
Real touch and go there for a while though.
Some intense movie of the week type stuff.
-
We shall exist until the end of time
WE ARE ETERNAL
-
Okay if don't post something in this thread, like, right now, The off-topic Topic is going to hit Ozymandias levels of irony.
I refuse to lean into Percy Bysshe Shelley reference when I could much rather set up a Mary Shelley reference.
-
I’m not dead either!
We're not dead!

Fantastic!
How are you?!

As long as we dance we shall live!

Weird to think Pat's freakout was little over two years ago,i wonder what he's doing now
-
I don't know but I do care.
-
All I know is,he rapidly went off into the deep end
-
He's still out there on steam sometimes, reach out one way or another and you can likely get ahold of him.
-
Part of me wants to,the other wants nothing to do with him
-
The reports of my death have been falsely celebrated.
-Lego
-
I always knew you were out there somewhere, building the XP of dragons made of legos.
I never gave up on thinking that.
-
Pats out there, he contacted me a while back. He is doing okay.
I don't know what happened between you all, I wasn't here.
Oh and I'm alive too, noticed the chat was gone.
Is there anywhere you guys hang out know? we have years upon years in this. Would be a shame to fade away.
-
We're on Discord. Unfortunately I don't have the address.
-
I hate how difficult it is to join a Discord Server sometimes
-
Awesome, if one of you could nudge someone who runs the discord in my direction I'd appreciate it. I'm frequently in a couple other discord channels as it is, so that's works great for me.
-
We bugged Gauph about it. Good to know you and Lego are still around!
-
I am also not dead yet. Hi.
-
Howdy!
Hows it going?
-
I'm really appreciating how alive and also not spambots everyone is.
-
Yes me also I as well enjoy writing essays online. (http://spam-link)

And then Rys was the spambots.
