Spore: General / Re: If DRM folks can start a protest...

Oh shut the bleep up...
Not directed at anyone in this thread, just the protesters in general.  I just noticed that not only are they downrating Spore, they're downrating anything relating to Spore, INCLUDING THE GAME GUIDE.  GAME GUIDES CANNOT HAVE DRM.  THEY ARE BOOKS.  DRM DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.

The guide has some pretty big errors in saying you can switch between herbivore and carnivore mid creature stage.

How can people steal something from you when you don't own the content? Nothing you made in Spore is owned by the player.

It's a known thing to pretty much everyone....

except the people that did the prima guide since their example creature changes from carnivore to herbivore right in the middle of the creature stage.

No game is perfect when it comes out, there are always bugs even when it's tested prior.

The things mentioned in the OP aren't bugs though, they're pretty big game play oversights, some of which would be impossible to miss if people had been playing like the frequency of attacks in space, how it just becomes very tedious very quickly to have more than a few planets, etc which are pretty much universal problems every player is having.

If they're going to pick a game to blow up over DRM, pick one that sucks to begin with.  They're throwing away the 99 percent of the game that is open to viable criticism and may just be the biggest new gaming archetype of our time.... because they don't like the protection EA put on it?  I don't get it, but I'm not the world's smartest guy, either.

It sends a bigger message if the predicted most revoluntionary game is getting hammered over the DRM issue than if it was some other game. There's just far more potential for this to get attention...which clearly it has.

Hey uh guys. Maybe thats not it. The total ending I mean. I mean, what happens when you use the device 42 times? Does it just die? Or does like, something happen? You know, something?

still, even being optimistic. Let's say 20% of those people won't buy it. Still 6200. That's $310,000 dollars...before the game's even out.

It assumes they would have bought it if pirating didnt exist. In general I doubt that. A lot of people see downloading as easy any time access tv/radio/ the people that care enough to check it out but don't care enough to have ever bought it in the first place.

how could your own creature attack  you if you downloaded it, downloaded copies cant access the internet version of spore?

They would be in the creature folder created with the creature creator, it's automatically ported *shrug*

A number of people from Australia have said that about the GE so who knows

if you somehow had enough SBs to blow on pimping ya city with turrents (lol), it will be a snap i guess.

then stop attacking others and doing mission while you mine on colonies to make a stack of turrents?

It's being worked on, it doesn't seem it was the priority when this "release"

The leak at the moment isn't cracked as such (is playable though), hence why it tells players to not go online with it. The crack for online will likely come within the next week or two *shrug*

I wished there could be a way for EA to put out their own Spore torrent with some malicious code to erase their hard-drives or something like that.

Tactic wouldn't work, would last maybe 24 hours at most.

There is going to be an ugly noise on Sept 7th if this doesn't change.

The Australian release date is the 4th last I heard.

Also, how could an Australian store release the game early?

A lot of store workers are pretty clueless here unless you're buying from a gaming store, official release date? what's that?  Generally it's just a case of asking the young person if they have whatever it stock and they check out back and bring it back without a clue...the joys of highschoolers behind the counter hurray!

whereas with the full CC you would because it was a paid product.

Well for you, here it was free with the newspaper.
