I feel the view that is ether good for Europe or is good for you Nation is a bad view. First of all the EU needs is member states to be strong. And there is the aspects that two can benefit from a trade and cooperation. It is not some zero sum game.

Sure, but does what Europe may want or need supersede what France might want or need?

*raising as a point of debate/discussion, sovereignty and its limits is an interesting subject*

France, along with Germany, is one of the two major powerhouses of the EU. What is good for the EU is 80% beneficial to France too.

As for the 20%, EU agriculture policy annoys the **** out of rural France (as it does in rural U.K.).

Right but from what I understand that really just boils down to a tragedy of the commons kind of situation where farmers are mad they can't be profitable because the methods they have to use to farm the way they want to are raping the planet and require huge subsidies to actually be viable.

Everyone else risks getting made redundant from their work because the economy/technology has changed, I don't see why farmers should get special protection just because we have a romantic view of rural life.

Full disclosure all the farmers in my area drive luxury cars and the guy that owns the land that my workplace is on voted Brexit "even though I'll lose £200,000 in subsidies" so my attitude to this my be coloured by the fact that in my experience farmers are not living a hand to mouth existence.

Also 100% true for me. All the farmers round here own ****tons of land and plaster UKIP signs all over it and probably have as much if not more money than the stock traders invading East Anglia and making it impossible to live here on a normal salary.

Yeah. Farmers tend to have a lot of cash. Not every farmer. But most. There just a other arm of big business in many cases. At least here in the west where there is almost no subsistence farming.

(Though one should be careful about mixing up rural population with farmers.)

But I might be generalizing to much. Though I do know there is a far bit of farmers that are on the extremist right here in Sweden. And they tend to be the rich kind.
