go to your post history and quote your first post, then when a few other people do it we'll all quote our second post, etc.

To restart this awesome topic:

"Like tears in the rain, they will be lost forever."
-Roy from Blade Runner

and we get:

"There is no rain."
Roy the replicant meteorologist. *Stifles giggle*

and we can all make fun of each other

Everything Else / Cyberpunk is Real Now
« on: November 17, 2016, 10:35:20 pm »
so i'm sure this has been mentioned in other threads, but isn't it strange how cyberpunk is quickly becoming reality? we're on the edge of cheap, disposable VR entertainment becoming a reality. some people have to take dramamine or something to withstand VR motion sickness which is also very cyberpunk. the ubiquitousness of the internet means that all information is so readily available that people can become information addicts and spend all their time online, so that's pretty cyberpunk. the internet has also influenced culture to the point where people share a collective hivemind of recurring cultural symbols - memes - and of course this has happened since media existed but it can change nationwide on a day-to-day basis, so that's pretty cyberpunk as well i think. there are cyber-criminals at large from the US government who leak secret electronic correspondence to influence real-world events. people feel naked and alone without their always-connected portable supercomputer.

et cetera.

can anyone think of some other examples? :)

So obviously none of us are completely mild-mannered and boring, but obviously it's not acceptable to be an incredibly edgy douchebag all the time so if you are an edgy douche internally then you sort of have to keep it to yourself. In this thread you can blow of some edgy steam if you want and it's okay. So I'll start.

How about that late stage capitalism huh? All these Super Bowl ads are kinda crazy, they don't even sell products anymore, they just kinda randomly touch upon some things that are culturally significant like emojis or something and then say "buy this". Kinda weird right? Like what's going on with advertising? What's going on with all these reboots and stuff too, why is advertising really focusing heavily on "nostalgia" and stuff? Is the current generation really into regressing into like, childhood things? There's a graphic design trend recently of making everything bright, colorful, and simplistic. It sure does look nice, but again it seems like the kind of thing that appeals to little kids. Does it have to do with the rising rates of mental illness? Do people just need to be a little more childlike to cope?

Is advertising just being distilled down into appealing shapes, colors, and sounds, coupled with familiar ideas and concepts, in order to create a positive association in our brain with the product being sold? Is that what advertising has always been?

lmao weird marketing dystopia, discuss (or discuss your other edgy, anti-establishment ideas)

Console Games / Kingdom Hearts
« on: January 26, 2016, 06:02:15 pm »
So, because they were a Christmas gift from a friend who expects me to play them, I've started the Kingdom Hearts games. I've played 1 and Re:Chain of Memories so far. Do any of you guys actually like these games? They're pretty hyped up from what I hear but I honestly don't understand what people like about them at all. They seem like ****ty obnoxious Final Fantasy OCs interacting with ****ty versions of okayish Disney characters with buttonmashy combat and boring level design. I could be wrong though. Also bosses are cheap and frustrating.

So yeah does anyone here like KH?

So apparently some guys are working on a sort of space/physics sandbox. Not sure if there's any goal or if it's purely just for fun but it seems pretty cool. Here's a video.

And of course the website:

EDIT: Nevermind. A quick Steam check and I am now aware that several of you want/own this.

Everything Else / SLINKY IS A DUMBBUTT

Alright, so, maybe you've all heard of this, but: SOLAR ROADWAYS.

Basically, two scientists have created durable solar panels that can be used to pave roads. And just think about how much pavement there is on the world! Anyway, they need money for their indiegogo campaign and I think this is a really huge deal.

Storytelling and Roleplaying / Ruler of the Universe
« on: October 14, 2013, 03:34:50 pm »
You are The Ruler of the Universe. You have two children, but their names and genders are undetermined. Underneath you is a vast expanse of many, many things, all of which are nothing. You must create a planet in this emptiness, to brighten it up a bit.

The Rules

(detox was not involved at all)
  • One of the siblings will be sent to live on the world and will not return until he or she is ruler of the entire planet.
  • The other sibling will try to mess up his/her plans.
  • The Ruler of the Universe (you people) is allowed to make a change to the world every three turns, which can be anything at all (much like IT). Basically, this means that on each turn you can make a suggestion to the siblings to do stuff, and after the third one you can change it yourself. If no one makes a suggestion after a while, I'm just gonna double post to get on to the next turn.
  • The game restarts when the "ruler" child becomes ruler or the "anti-ruler" child defeats the "ruler".
  • ABSOLUTELY NO GORRAMN PONIES!! (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, YUU!)

There is emptiness. What kind of planet will there be? What kind of children do you have?

NOTE: The last time I tried to do this, you jerkwads spammed it with GIFs so I abandoned it. Now I'm maturerer, I'm I'm trying it again.

Portable Games / Star Command
« on: May 08, 2013, 05:22:37 pm »
NOTE: I didn't actually do a search for whether or not this was a topic already, so I'm sorry if it is.

Star Command is an iOS game (also coming to Android/PC/Mac) that is basically an homage to Star Trek in strategy game form. It was on Kickstarter for a while. Now it's out (as of May 2) and I've been enjoying it quite a bit, despite its repetitiveness. Anyone else been playing this?

Gaming Steve seems to be going crazy, with fights breaking out, mods leaving, and the general pissing off of various members. If you are still sane, please help combat these problems and restore the forum back to its previous, civil state (although I am using this term loosely). This is not a joke thread. If you see something about to happen, try to stop it before the mods have to lock the topic.
