About time we gave Lord of the rings it's own thread (and so we don't have to disrupt the fallout 4 thread))
So about eagles flying to Mount doom.bunch of nonsense,am I right?
Also, what would have happened if Durin's Bane had obtained the ring from Frodo? (in this scenario Frodo is captured and tortured)
Also,do Balrogs have wings?
No,I don't know about that reddit thread,do tell.. (https://np.reddit.com/r/tolkienfans/comments/3zaith/what_if_the_moria_balrog_had_acquired_the_ring/cykjnbs?context=3)

The problem with the theory that the dwarves would all ally with Durin's Bane in order to reclaim Moria for themselves is that dwarves are notorious for holding grudges and the balrog won't be exempt from this, six thousand years later or no. I could see dwarves waiting for the balrog to march with his army and then come in from behind to retake their ancestral home by force, but not an alliance. If anything, the dwarves or a subset of them might be more willing to join Sauron's invasion force in exchange for the promise of being vanguard troops in Moria. They won't trust Sauron, but that doesn't mean they'd think they could get rooted out of Moria a second time, not when Sauron's forces would be depending on the dwarves to guide them.

If memory serves, the Eagles didn't get along well with other races. They had a habit of stealing sheep, so Men had a habit of shooting at them. So they only helped when Gandalf called in a favor or there was extreme circumstances. Mordor was heavily fortified and had the Nazgul, so they probably could've shot the eagles down with ease.

Guys what if Farmer Maggot had acquired the ring?
-
He would have handed it over to the ring wraiths in short order.
-
Ok duly noted. But what if this piece of wood had acquired the ring?

Seems a shame for this to die, anyone to argue about lord of the rings?

Did Iluvatar know that Melkor was going to cause Discord? Was this part of the plan?
-
Iluvatar likely knew, but he had to go long way around in ensuring that he lost. When Sauron lost his ring it wouldn't surprise me if Iluvatar knew how to get the ring into Bilbo's,then Frodo's hands

Did Iluvatar know that Melkor was going to cause Discord? Was this part of the plan?
Well God is omniscient right?
-
Only if his angels are.
-
I agree with you that God probably knew how it was all going to go down. Maybe the struggle that would ensue was the destination.
As for the Ring, I don't think God had anything to do with getting the Ring into Bilbo's hand in a direct sense. I think that was the Ring's doing.

Well the ring was essentially the essence of Sauron,so it probably worked against Iluvatar's influence, making him rely on his agents like Gandalf, who ensured that it was passed on to Frodo. The greatest risk with something like the One Ring is that is corrupts whoever tries to wear it,in many ways Iluvatar made Frodo's and Bibbos lives a misery just to make sure that no one else (like say,one of the Maia) could become corrupted and cause an even greater discord.Saruman is corrupted by Sauron anyway and it's difficult to say wheather Iluvatar sacrificed him because he knew he would fail,or because did not forsee another of the Maia being corrupted by sources like the palanti.I think Iluvatar knew he could afford to lose Saruman, but not Gandalf, without another agent to help guide the ring bearers his plan to destroy the ring would fail.
Long story short,if ttoo many Maia become corrupted its game over, but he needs one agent standing in order to win.
It's difficult to say who was who Iluvatar could influence, certainly there are many forces which are working against what he wishes(like Sauron and the ring itself) and those he most likely has no influence over like Tom bombadil, either because Tom too important to risk or because Tom doesn't pay too much attention to Iluvatar and he's prepared to leave Tom alone, but that does't mean he's not watching him closely through Gandalf.

Jesus christ, I actually understand all of this.
I spend way too much time reading histories on wikis for shows I've not watched and books I've not read.
The fact that dwarves were given sapience by a different entity than elves or humans was a fun fact to learn.

Kinda neat, right? :D
