So i just got this old game running again with DosBox, and i forgot how good it was. Anyone else remember this?

My wife still plays it (although she is miffed that I doesn't play on Vista. I'll have to give Dosbox a try)

I like putting my best guys against eachother in the arena pit, wait till they get low on health, then heal them up again, and continue like so forever.

I once made an entirely undead dungeon. Any humanoid newcomers went in the prison to be starved into skeletons, nonhumanoids were tortured into ghosts, and all corpses were dragged to the graveyard to spawn vampires

Vampires are the best.

I love the voice they have, just like the Count himself.

They can't walk into water though, but that can be solved with turning into a bat.

I loved the second one, but the first one had some sort of speed error I couldn't manage to fix in game. I probably should have looked for a patch.

Heard some things about it, and I'm aware there's an Oblivion mod based off of this game, so I'll be willing to give it a try

The first game was awesome, the second was awfull.

When you got to the later levels in the first game, you were forced to start using rush tactics to survive. I mean seriously after 5-7 min the enemy would be at your door step with 15 creatures ready to bash the 'ell out of ya,

You must be one of the first people to agree with me on that.

The Second game was ugly-looking and basically took out most of the charm and features that made the first great.

The second game was too... I dunno. Standardised? Homogenised? There's a word i'm looking for which relates to dulling down and removing charm and individual distinction for something at the expense of "doing things by the book". I may not even know what i'm talking about here but that's the exact feeling I got from DK2, right from the beginning of playing it.

Wasn't DK2 released pretty much at the point Bullfrog/Lionhead began to rapidly decline, anyway?
It's a shame DK1 only has really ancient mid/late-90s connectivity options which makes multiplayer nearly impossible to do now. Yet another example of why I want to learn to program games and create my own with said options, but will never have the skill or worth as a human being to ever manage it. Sigh.

Yeah, I got that impression with DK2. It was a bit soulless. The crappy primitive 3d creature models somehow managed to have less personality than the low rez sprites of the first game, and the omnipresent advisor voice sounded like it was phoning it in.

I think DK2 was basically the point at which bullfrog went down the crapper. I think because a bunch of the employees left and made Lionhead, which suffered its own decline later

I loved the tentacle and hellhounds, they took them out on the second though

also it was great to torture the Avatar of Ultima (yes him) the ultimate enemy in the last level of DK1 and make him yours...

taking control of a level 10 dragon and then spam firebreath at the enemy horde was a great game winner. ^^

I've had dosbox for a long time, been using it for OMF, WC1&2, PoP 1&2, JJackrabbit, Keen, and a couple other classics...

OMF is the sh*ts...

yea, as a matter of fact omf is the shizmatick, i always played the tournament mode with upgrades and stuff though,
and also i liked the first robot the best, i think it was panther or jaguar...

Jaguar's right. I like using Pyros myself, although off looks I always liked the unstoppable wenis power that is Thorn. AANYWAYS, the copy I grabbed was a broken file, gotta keep looking...
