Everything Else / Finnish Rock bands
« on: November 07, 2007, 04:18:41 am »
i have always loved Finnish Rock bands, but i don't really show it or anything because not many other people i know like them however i have noticed that Apocalyptica are becoming quite popular in Britain thanks to songs such as I'm not Jesus  which have really helped establish them.

anyway i just wanted to know what other people from around the world think of finnish rock bands.

give me you'r 2 cents.

Everything Else / get these tiny bastards off my shed!
« on: October 04, 2007, 11:22:21 am »
i live in my very simple little house, its small but it's clean and nice and in my garden their is a small shed.

some useless neighborhood kids have decided it is fun to use my shed as a platform from which to jump across onto next doors shed. anyway, apparently the act of jumping from shed to shed and climbing fences is called something like "garden running," or something.

anyway, the first time it happened i calmly opened my door and yelled to them to go away and from a 6 year old i got the response "shut the **** up and get back in the house!" while this is a horrible thing i couldn't help but start laughing uncontrollably until my stomach hurt (much to the child's horror that his insults were taken so unseriously).

they keep doing it again and again to the point where they are damaging my shed and costing me money.

i thought about putting spikes or nails on the shed but then i realised i would certainly have an argument  with their parents if they hurt themselves on them and that's if i wasn't in trouble with the police because of this countries stupid laws. so i covered the roof in vandal grease and they don't care at all

i cought one and he explained to me how fun it is to garden hop so i responded by dragging him to his home and explaining to his parents what a little leisurly vandal their son was and the father replied by slapping his son and throwing him up the stairs and promising to call the others parents too.

satisfied i went home.

then the next day it happens again, they won't stop!!

Everything Else / Creating the Perfect country
« on: October 03, 2007, 06:07:34 am »
(please note this is NOT a topic about Hitler or anyother dictator for that matter, so don't bring them up unless your using them as a historical reference point, i don't want to hear anyone saying "Hitler would never have managed that!" or anything like that.)

as much as i hate to say it, i have a awkward admiration of these men, these dictators, who accomplish great things with their unchallenged power over their nation, who bring their nations out of poverty and sickness and create the foundations of a great country.

Hitler and Chairman Mao are a couple of these people.

but they also did many  evil things, Chairman Mao has actually killed more poeple than any other dictator in history and i don't need to tell you what Hitler did.

but what these men were trying to do is create a perfect nation, a strong, crime free, wealthy, healthy and well-educated nation.

do you think the ends could justify the means? is it worth all the death and oppression to create such a nation?

Spore: General / Religion used as a form of conquest.
« on: August 14, 2007, 09:43:27 am »
we all know religions are involved and that you can make other civilisations beleive your a god but do you think religion can be used as more than that.

what if religion could be used as a political tool. say you base your civilisation around  a religion and by forcing/convincing other planets to adopt this religion they become part of your empire. That way you could conquer planets in a peaceful way by convincing them of your divinity by destroying their enemies ,preventing natural disasters or simply going near a planet and using a show of force to make them convert without actually fighting them.

Kind of like "Ori" from that stargate program one of my friends seems to love so much.

i guess i just like the idea of you being able to control a religion rather than a inter-stellar empire.

Forum Games / Would i lie to you?
« on: July 26, 2007, 07:35:57 am »
o.k, this game is based on the T.V show of the same name.

i say a statment, you guess wether or not i am lieing,  you may also ask the stater questions about their statment.

after the votes (not through a poll, just post "lie" or "truth" then whatever) for lie or truth have come in, i tell you wether or not i was telling the truth and hand the torch onto someone else of my choice. they then repeat.

the stater choose after how many votes they reveal wether of not their statment is true but don't wait too long, just wait until you get a reasonable number of votes.

the rules are:
the statement must be about yourself.
if the statement is true then all the answers to questions you answer must be true and vice versa.
you must choose your succesor randomly not because you like them or whatever.
the stater choose after how many votes they reveal wether of not their statment is true but a maximum of 10 votes applies.
the person someone chooses as their succesor must have voted in the last question and must be logged in, they must also have not had a turn recently.

although for my first one i might not be able to answer your questions incase i have to log out and can't get back in for a while (famn router) but please still ask anyway.

remember to ask questions and state why you beleivfe it is true or false and feel free to discuss it with other users.
o.k, heres mine.

I regulaly visit the grave of a german WW2 Luftwaffe casualty named Heinrich Richter who i am no relation to.

TV / Dexter.
« on: July 10, 2007, 09:53:45 am »
i have been watching this show, somepeople say its not a good show but i have thought about it and i have decided it is.

the show's main character and narrater is a emotionless serial killer named Dexter Morgan. It does a fantastic job of getting you into the mind of this killer as you hear the contrast between how he speaks to people and how he thinks and as you also hear Dexter's thoughts as he struggles to understand how "socially acceptable people" think and why they behave so.

Ever since his childhood he has felt an urge to kill, his foster father found out and he realised that their is no way to remove this urge and being a policeman he decided to teach his son how to kill but to only ever kill other murderers who the police force have failed to catch. Now Dexter has grown up and he is a blood splatter expert working for the police, when they fail to catch, he moves in.

But by far the absoloute best part about this series is its soundtrack, its fantasticly hispanic and vibrant but can also dark and even satanic.;title;1

this is really worth watching but its a bit of a love it or hate it.

really worth watching

Everything Else / Mathematician needed!!
« on: July 08, 2007, 10:13:31 am »
i know this is along shot but i dunno what else to do.

i am in an argument with a young earth creationist who i am absoloutly determined to prove wrong and i need to work out how many tonnes of mass would be needed to be added to to the sun to increase its diameter by 93 million miles. now while i have all the data i never seem to comeout with the correct answer or i just get lost in the sums and have to start again.

then i remembered that this forum has some people on who are very good at maths so i just want to ask for a few minutes of their time.

i am not completely sure of what information is needed to calculate this but i do have this

the suns diameter is 870000 miles
its circumference is 2717000 miles
its mass is 2.19187410 to power of 27 tonnes

if you need any more info i will get it for you and save you having to look for it.

PC Games / The History Channel: Great battles of Rome
« on: June 29, 2007, 10:38:47 am »;summary

do not, under any circumstances compare this to Rome or any other Total war game.

while rome total wra may be user friendly this game is a hell of alot more realistic and the battle control scheme is in my opinion, much much better.

their are 100 battles that were actually fought and are statistically correct, divided among 14 campaigns that roman empire actually undertook and you are the general moving from one battle to the next.

now, because of what i am about to explain, if you lose a battle, you were probably doomed to lose it the second you clicked the start button.

before a battle, you organise your army and give them formations and whatnot, that is where the similiarites to Total war games ends.

the game is alot more realistic now as before the battle starts you give your troops orders such as when the infantry buckles charge the cavelry or make gaps when their cavalry charges then flank them or whatever you can think of.

now the battle starts, once you click the start button your control over your troops becomes very basic and limited, as a real general back then did not have total control over his army due to the lack of communication.

after winning the battle you may further customise your army and you keep going.

finally a game that historically and realistically fully correct!

Everything Else / Britain's new (much more boring) Prime minister.
« on: June 28, 2007, 06:12:14 am »
incase you didn't already know, we have a new PM.

Tony Blair is out and Gordon Brown is in. Tony blair is going to go be the middle east peace envoy.

its all obver the front of the BBc website.

i would of voted for tony blair again. he was better than most people say and he could have been the best primeminister ever (short of churchill ofcourse).

Spore: General / the master race _ a long term space objective
« on: June 26, 2007, 02:05:32 pm »
we have been told that their are no real objectives in the space stage, yes we can go to war and do small tasks and whatnot but their are no main tasks that must be completed.

but what if their was one.

what if as soo as we reach space stage we will be contacted by a master species that completely dominates your region of space. the message will say somthing along the lines of

pitiful race, we see you have managed leave your solar system, well, we're the [insert name] and if you don't want us to destroy you'r pathetic planet then you'd best behave yourself"

and you will have the usual option of what to say e.g "lets be friends!" or "we'll not be bossed around by you!" or "leave us alone!"

now, going to war with this species would be incredibly difficult at that stage and you'd probably lose but what if you had a long term objective of replacing this species as the dominant power in your region wether you do it by war or more peaceful means, or you could ignore them alltogether and this would make the task optional.

not only would this give the player somthing to aim for but it would also give them that moment, when they have defeated them and then they have suddenly become like a god, which is somthing WW said he wanted to be involved.

i think  this would add depth.

Everything Else / Sleepwalking.
« on: June 05, 2007, 03:03:47 pm »
when i was younger, i used to sleepwalk, but then i stopped and all was well.

But recently i have started again, the most common thing i do now is i get up and i throw my pillow on the floor, and i go downstairs and open all the curtains and do things that i would usually do on a morning when i wake up and get ready but somtimes i start cleaning up or trying to some other task which i find impossible but apparently feel i am still accomplishing.

i was suspicous i may have started again but i wasn't sure until  i was told i got up in the middle of the night and walked into the adjacent bedroom and sat on their bed and started talking to them about stupid things that did not make sence and apparently i refused to go to bed until i had finished my ramblings.

i make drinks and leave them their untouched and do things which are just plain stupid, i live with 2 other people and i guess i just wanna know what i should tell them to do if they find me sleepwalking and if their is anyway to stop me from doing it in the first place.

i also guess it would make me feel better if someone else here also sleepwalked, i feel like a bit of a freak because i am the only person i know who does it.

PC Games / a possible gap in the gaming market?
« on: May 30, 2007, 08:12:23 am »
after looking for a while i have realised that no-one has ever realeased a good political simulator, they have always been either too war orientaated or too plain and boring looking.

does anyone know of a game where you just pick a (reasonably) country and play is it through peace and war, make alliances and all those other things?
