Most Humiliating Defeat\Death\Game Over etc.
« on: May 22, 2005, 09:42:55 pm »
I've had tons but this is the most prominent:

I played 3 hours and 15 minutes just to die like this.

Edit: This takes place in Age of Empires II : Conquerors, the other players have been crossed out to protect their identities, and also if you were them by any chance so you can't rub it in my face :D

I've had five hour long Total Annihilation games with deaths in the thousands... it was a mess.

I encounter defeats like none other on a nearly daily basis with Rome: Total War.  One wrong move or one late calvary charge, and you can lose five thousand men.  Then again, one can play the same scenario again and win by a landslide.

That and when my girlfriend beat me in NFL Street the first time she played it.

I once killed 4500 men in Rome: Total War with only 2000 men.

At a LAN party I went to on Saturday I couldn't dial the numbers in my phone and ended up dialing my own number 5 times and wrong numbers about 30 times... I was so sleepy...

That counts, right?

Lol I hate it when the seige weapons kill my general in Rome.  Strangely they have misfired at the general more times then any other group of units...

I got beat in Star Craft while at an internet cafe in Korea.  It was absolutly horrible.  I think the game lasted a total of 8 minutes and there were over 40 or so of the builder bots in my base.  The guy then beat me a total of 14 times in under 3 hours.  That had to be the most embarrasing.

Duuuude! I haven't even seen it yet!!! :P

I played a Worms Armageddon lan game with a couple friends of mine. I totally botched throwing my banana bomb early in the game and not only killed-off half my team (both from the explosion, and being flung across the map into water. I rock. :D), but also turned the whole middle of the map into many giant craters.

On the plus side, I think I was the first player to do any damage that game. ;D

One time I was playing my friend at Conquerors, when he attacked me. I crushed this, and sent a few trebs over. One of them found his king.

Allright, I've got a few (Heh, I did a thread like this a few years ago, so I have some pics ready!;D)

^^ Here you see the first Imperial Fleet being completely destoryed over a simple reactor malfunction... I lost shorlty thereafter

^^ Aah, yes, Nethack, with some of the stupidest deaths possible and responable for hundreds going insane ;)

Note: I am not quite sure how to post an image here, or if you can upload a pic from your HD, so we'll see....

Edit: Can you upload pics from your hd or do you have to link them? If you have to link  them, and good file hosting sites?

I think they have to be linked. A lot of people use photobucket, and there is another I can't think of; but I haven't used either and don't know how well it works.

I had a pretty heinous death in KOTOR where I accidentally threw a grenade into the midst of my own group, killing both of my groupmates. The remaining bad guys (Sand People) promptly opened up a can of whup-ass on me. That's the one that springs to mind quickest.

Another one- I was playing the UT2k4 demo on Torlan- and was dominating the middle with my Manta. I was then attacked from behind by an enemy manta. I jumped, and tried to fly over and behind him, while facing the same direction in order to chase after I landed. I didn't jump high enough.

In Starcraft one time, I got totally crushed by my friend. He had eight layers of photon cannons. EIGHT LAYERS! I had a measly bunch of bunkers filled with marines and firebats. When I moved my HUGE assault force to attack him, (I opened up with a nuke to his front four layers of cannons with my Ghost), I found out the hard way what two carrier-loaded fleets of cloaked Protoss ships will do to an unsuspecting Terran force. The surprise of the day was when I managed to take down every carrier with a force of Goliaths. Normally he would have been micromanaging them, but I drew his attention away with a diversion attack of Wraiths and transports filled with marines. I still lost, but it was a bittersweet victory for him as I took down his expansions with only a few troops before he sent a THIRD fleet of cloaked carriers at me!

My worst one has to be on Age of Empires 2, i amassed a huge number of war elephants in a LAN game against my brother. After i had filled the whole screen with the enourmous beasts, i sent them all in, hinking it would be a peice of cake. Bearing in mind this is after 2 hours of painstaking preperation and wait, what comes next was so disappointing. I arrive at his base to find a screenfull of monks, i mean, what the hell?I start trying to attack them all, but for very one i kill, an elephant of mine is converted!I proceeded to spend the next 30  mins hiding the last of my great war elephants in the corner of the map, until i was finally found.

Man thats humiliating!

Okay, dude, a few tips:
1: Calm down, switch medications or something.
2: Its a given that he was going to die! Come on, it was fairly predictable! Anyway, it doesn't ruin it because he didn't say HOW he died, WHEN he died, and its not that central to the plot. So, as I said before: Calm Down! You remind me of a 7 year old.

I suppose... it would have to be at a lan game...

I was so totally owned when I played SC... a protoss player dropped his artillery just outside of the range of my defensive turrets... I couldn't drive them back quick enough... I managed to hold out against the Reever Drop once and twice and was able to atleast hold him off but I lost so bad... only 20 minutes into the game and I was getting decimated every 10 seconds. However... I totally killed in my frist try at Quake 3... I was actually pretty good a Melee kills and it would make other people look so stupid getting taken out with just the primary weapon.. it's the equivalant of being Knifed in Battlefield or Crowbarred in Half Life.

Quake 3 brings back memories of LAN parties and laughter over the player named Man Boobs, who shall never be forgotten...

Exactly. Unreal Tournament, with a redeemer. Some stupid fool teammate would run in front of me at the exact moment I would fire.
Always.
That's not really the most. I'm still trying to figure it out. Humiliation is a strong feeling.

To speak for my friend, he first thought the redeemer was a kamikaze weapon.
Find out that it was actually a missile launcher... priceless. Laughed for a while.
At him I mean.

Funniest death ever... was showing my g/f how in GTA3 you could line up tanks and get them to explode in a line once the first one blew up. I did the tank cheat like 20 times, but didn't move, so they all piled up on top of each other. So, I'm running down the hill so I can get a shot off with the rocket launcher, and just as I turn around, *splat* - a tank, which must have fallen off the top and rolled down the hill, absolutely creamed me.

Damn, we couldn't stop laughing for about an hour! Funniest. Death. Ever.

Then, there was the GTA comedy death contest which we devised afterward... did you know tanks can fly?

Playing C&C red alert with a mate, we took some time building up armies and pur base we decided to do an olde style battle by meeting at a pre-defined spot on the map and just rush our armies at each other. So we have tanks just out of firing range lined up and men waiting when BOOM, my mate drops a nuke on my men killing them all then rushes at me, in the initial confusion of losing my infantry he got a head start but i managed to beat him back, he didnt have as many units as i did. And i found out why when i got to his base. He had gun turrets set 5 deep around his base of course what was left of my army was totaly dessimated by the turrets, then he moves some tanks he had hidden away into my base which i had left almost totaly undefended, so i quickly sold all my building to at least rob him of the satisfaction of destroying my base then took my remaining units on a run around the map trying to survive as long as possible but eventually the last infantry man was surounded by tanks and stomped on.

I have tried this so many times...
In the Terren Campaign in starcraft there's a scenerio where you have to survive for 15 minutes. just 15 minutes... The first time i played it i didn't know what to expect so i took it easy. Figured i'd just stay where i was and casually make units... every once in a while a zerg creature would come in and attack but ussually i would over come it. I kept thinking, "I can do this, this is easy!"

then about 10 minutes in, a huge barrage of zergs just comes and keep coming and it was just sad. I kept putting up as much defence as i possibly could and getting my butt whupped.
Every time i've played i keep trying harder and harder, making more units, putting them at stratigic defence points. eigther way i still get killed horribly.
The last unit was ussually defeated with about 3 minutes left on the clock.
What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

Wow, sounds like you had a lot of trouble with that map.  Did you not put your Marines and Firebats into the bunkers?  Also, when they come rushing in have your building take off.  That has saved me a couple of times.

I've tried bunkers...
And I try lifting off every time when they swarm in but my buildings rapidly take damage and i end up losing...
What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

Ok, then just do what I do and pump out massive amounts of maries.  Or you could do the opposite of waiting and take the fight to the Zerg.  I've managed to take all of them out before the game ended.

Not only do you have to build marines and firebats, but you also have to build:

Bunkers: To shelter your units while they slaughter the zerg
Turrets: To blow away those annoying flying zerg
SUV's!: To get more minerals/gas so that you can build more marines/firebats/bunkers/turrets!

Build 2 or 3 of those bike things (I forgot what they are called!) and load the bridges down with loosely concentrated land mines (You don't want 2 or three going off to kill a single zergling, do ya?)

As for attacking, just go in with massive numbers, marine/firebat ratio about 3/1.

You have no idea how much i wanted to see that movie and you f**king ruined it.  I'm f**king mad, not an a**hole.  You put the spoiler in a thread that has NOTHING at all to do with it.  You didn't even label that it was a spoiler, it came out of the blue.  honestly man, didn't you atleast think that someone might have not seen the movie and get pist?  use common sense...

there should be a rule against posting spoilers, because honestly, thats f**ked up

Many sad deaths come from the sims, like getting electrocuted while fixing something, or in the first one, having your wife burn to death by a careless genie who set the bed on fire (hmm... that doesn't quite sound right)

The best thing to do in the sims is to put one character in a room with no doors and one stove >:( ;D >:( ;D

I have one ... I might have even talked about this in a podcast.

In the game Karateka you have to fight a freaking horde of bad guys in order to "rescue the girl at the end". One of the first fighting games ever made it looked and played amazingly well, but you couldn't save your progress. This was way back in 1986 where you had to play and finish your games in one sitting.

Anyhow after you managed you fight through a horde of bad guys, kill the boss and his damn falcon (that was a freaking pain), you finally got to the "girl at the end". Now when you get to the end of the game what do you do? You run up to her of course! So why oh why did the programmers put in the following death?

If you ran up to the girl or approached her in fighting stance she would give you a swift kick to the gonads and down you would go! Oh yeah, and game over. Nice. I can still remember the shock I had when this first happened to me over 19 years ago. Of course if you just walked over to her (the "walk" key, who ever uses that?) then you would actually win the game.

Thank god I have never seen anyone else do something like this since. Well, expect for Banjo Kazooie, that sort of had a trick ending.

In WoW one knight I was feeling pretty good after melting down a couple of mages with my Shaman. I'm a medium-good player so this sort of victory had me high on life. Well, standing on the Zepplin platform outside Org I get zerged by a bunch of alliance rogues being spam-healed by paladins. No real dishonor or shame in that, but I was feeling cocky, so I called in my guild and we lined up like 10 players to weed them out. Then, I see one of the paladins is really low and mana, I think to myself "well, I'll jump him real quick with my awesome shaman powers and the guild'll jump in behind me".

But I forgot serveral things:
-to check my guild's status, over half of the casters were just finished buffing so they had no mana.
-to inform anyone of my amazingly dumb plan.
-to wonder where all thsoe rogues went.

Long story short, I charged in, got pasted without ever doing anything usefull, and got half my guild killed when the now-alert alliance jumped the still-medding casters. Yeah, THAT was humiliating.

Lol, most humiliating defeat for the alliance is when I took down 5 people my level with my friend as a mage and me as a shaman.
There was 2 rogues, 1 priest and a warrior.

My friend frost nova's the rogues, I run toward the priest, frost shocking the warrior while laying a earth bind totem in the middle of the rogues.

Priest(I think he was shadow build) starts throwing fears and stuff at me and the warrior hamstrings me, but priest was stupid enough to stay close to me and I windfury crit him to death (6 in a row I think, my personal record). Warrior stuns me, and then execute crits me, I die. Then because of reincarnation I come back to life while my friend was Arcane Explosioning the Rogues. I threw him a heal then drank a pot myself to full health, frost shocks the warrior, and held him off(he just wouldn't die) my friend kills the 2 rogues (I don't know how he did it). Then nukes the warrior with a fire bolt leaving him stunned while I layed a can of Windfury whoop ass on him.

I could imagine their faces getting owned when they outnumbered us 5 to 2. Bet they went crying to their guild for reinforcements :P
