Would you be in favour of getting Spore through the EA downloader?
While it is still in its teething phase so far its trial with Battlefield 2 has been a very positive experience and a definite learning experience for EA with visible improvements
Personally I'd love to see it be available through digital distribution with official updates and patches available in seconds and no need for a hardcopy if you don't want one.
The Steam platform has been a great success for VALVe, why not for Maxis and Spore especially if they can link the player database through it

I hate using online downloaders for games like this. A disk is so much more secure and easier to deal with (I think). Give me a cd/dvd anytime over downloaders.

I only use such a thing for addons, but the original core game I allways buy it retail.

Digital would be awesome, since you could burn to disk if you really wanted, and it would save a lot of time and hassle

Why not have both so retro people can get it in store and us cool people dl

I will get the disc then rip it to my hdd so it runs faster

. Since it'll probably require a disc since the sims2 did.

I'm getting it retail, but soon everythings going to be downloadable, so spore probably will too eventually.

I prefer disks because 5 or 6 years down the road it may be that the company's gone or that they don't offer to let you dl the program anymore. Now while the first isn't likely for either Maxis or EA (but who knows) the second could happen down the road sometime. I'm also fairly careful with my disks so its not likely I'll lose them or scratch em bad enough they won't work.

I can't use a digital download because of my location (expat in Korea with no canadian credit card). Digital downloads = no game for teh slug. I will be making a trip into Seoul on the first day that I have 5 hours to spare after Spore is released (and on release day I'll be taking a short trip to several nearby shopping centers just in case they had the bizarre luck of mistakingly ordering the greatest game of all time to accompany the rest of the crap games on their shelves)

I enjoy having hard copies of all my games, mostly because it generally comes with so much neat stuff. Besides, you can't exactly show off a book full of digital copies can you?

Online Distribution is exactly what I need. Would save me the troulbe of making a mini image or cracking the game so I don't have to keep putting a CD in. I hate that. That was my biggest nusence with BF2.

I'd rather get a hard copy. I mean, what happens if my comp dies on me? No problem with the DVD, pop it in, reinstall. I hope it will also have a fancy manual, and a poster and all that stuff. I would be willing to pay more :>

Seriously, GTA:SA's city guide that came as the package (not in it) will be pretty hard to top. And companies have got to start trying to top each other in ways other than graphics.

how about the people who have download limits? for example there's some european isps where you get like 20 national gigs and 1 itnernational gig

why? you're constantly getting an improved game every week and steam and VAC mean cheating is very low especially compared to the pre Steam counterstrike 1.5 and earlier days...

BIG FRUITY JUICY NICE MAPS AND STUFF... SH III had the all-important gridmap (oh, how it saved me), and as mentioned, GTA:SA had... that... thing. Big, huge, enormous, sexy paper-things alongside the disc is soooooooo important. It's what you browse through whilst installing, damnit!!

companies love digital distribution because of the real nice profit margin it has, which is 100% by the way (except for the small price of royaltys or anything but you make a massive profit not buying anything REAL)

i only play on VAC approved servers...The thing is,no matter how fast they produce anti-hacks the hackers will always find a way to go around

that's why i see cheaters everyday,yes,valve is doing a great work.

Only go on VAC approved then, you can select it on the server search menu

I'll be sold on the digital distribution thing when there is a savings to do so. Some games (any URU fans, although not EA) are cheaper to get in the stores than to download.

Simple solution to the not having access to the server in 50 years. The registration should be tied to information you'd never want to give you. Ereader E-books use your credit card number. You never have to authenticate with an external server, but it is secure 'cause who is gonna distribute the book with their credit card as a decryption code.

I suggested this a while ago, its easyer to download a game then to try to find a hard copy of it, depending where you live, you may not even have a local game store! Or worse, the game sells out very fast.

I think a good idea would be for the ability to burn a hard-copy of a downloaded game so you dont have to worry about your computer failing (of course, you would be able to re-download it, but being able to have a hard-copy as well is always a good idea)

You could always buy it online from say Ea and get it mailed to you too.

Hopefully. I hope you need a cd key to access the online stuff to prevent something like that. (Well at least limit how wide spread that issue is.)
