I'm trying to find a dating sim for my girlfriend, yes it's for my girlfried not for me. Older ones are preferred *cough* roms *cough* and in English. I'm slowly weaning my girlfriend to play games so anything that sparks here interest is a good thing. Any help you can provide will be helpful, thanks.

There's The Sims, that's got a small dating aspect.
There's Singles: Flirt Up Your Life
And of course, Leisure Suit Larry, but that's not recommended from what I heard.

Your best bet would probably be Singles

I agree, instead of a male lead, we need to make a game where you play a woman desperately trying to get a date, but only getting laid then heart broken.

These kind of games are fairly big in Japan.  I believe the women play them too.  Ill look into it later.

Edit: This site has a good list of dating sims that are female centric.  (Some popups; it's on lycos)
Most can be obtained through an import gaming site...or likely by "other" means, if you're so inclined
