The best system I've ever owned.
« on: May 25, 2020, 04:38:07 pm »
This is a heck of a statement because I still play my SNES regularly. But now that we are in the extreme twilight of the DS series of hardware, I think I can say without a doubt that the DS/3DS system has been the best video game device I've ever owned. That little thing has so many great games, many installed directly to the 250GB microSD. So many great moments in so many great games; plus access to the combined DS and 3DS libraries which are sleek and portable.

And now that prices are coming down on games and systems, I may grab a spare so I can keep it in-box just in case I require a new system someday. This thing still gets a lot of use. The games are cheaper now as well and you can even find them at yard sales.

My SNES will always be the "nostalgia" console, but I really can't sell the DS short. That handheld is the best system I've ever owned.

Meanwhile some of the old Pokemon DS games only rise in price. Especially HeartGold and SoulSilver.

I kinda want to get Pokemon White 2, so that I can transfer Pokemon from the Pokemon Dream Radar on 3DS. I'd like to get it on discount, but I guess I'd be lucky to get it at the original price...

It probably doesn't help that all the prices are inflated right now due to current events. We sold a bog-standard Wii for over $200, somehow.

Who the hell did you sell that to? Was it a comprehensive package with the system and best games and a bunch of controllers? Were they time travelers from 2007?

It was an eBay auction where I work. So they did it to themselves. It came with no games, two remotes, two nunchucks, the sensor bar, the AC adapter, and the AV cable. Standard white original model. I have no idea why they though it was worth that much.

Before the pandemic, we could barely sell Wiis, but now they are worth much more.

A thought came to me when I was looking at the images I wanted to post for the Inazuma Eleven 2 topic. I've got a very simple mod on my n2DSXL and it also works on any n3DS model. If you look to the right of the unit where the c-stick is located you'll notice I do not have the default nub there. That crappy rubber nub is just that: crap. But a simple modification came to my attention several years ago that makes the c-stick more useful without any detriments; the thing even looks better.

https://www.amazon.com/Haobase-Analog-Joystick-PSP-1000-Sony/dp/B005IF00ZM

Grab this nub meant for the PSP-1000. It has to be the PSP-1000 version or else it won't fit correctly. And check the reviews at that link, you can probably guess what everyone is using them for and it ain't the PSP. You simply pull the rubber nub out of the DS (being sure to clip the loops on the left and right which secure it to the system) and the PSP-1000 nub literally snaps into place onto the top of the c-stick's potentiometer. It's supremely easy to accomplish and vastly improves the usability of the c-stick.

Your system's clam shell design will accommodate the modification with no issue whatsoever.

Now you're playing with power.

I left my 3DS on the train.

Tragedy.

That's a good donation! They must have had more than one.

Who knows! We're so far removed from where it was donated by the time things get to us.

I filed a lost and found request to the company. But meh, I guess if it's never found, I can consider I "donated" it to someone who needs it more. :P
