Ah, the stage. So empty, yet so full. So big, yet so small. So sincere, yet so easy to type a whole bunch of really pretentious parallel clauses about.

But that aside, watching live theater in person (or participating in it) can actually be an amazingly fun and exhilarating experience if it's done well.
Mind you the majority of my theatrical experience has been with watching or participating in High School and University productions, but it always feels special whenever I can get close to it in any capacity (professional or otherwise).

So, anybody have any favorite plays/stage productions? Favorite playwrights or performers? Productions they want to see? Productions they've worked on?

I'm taking the girlfriend to see the Melbourne production of Marry Poppins in a little over 2 weeks time. Bought the tickets about a month ago was a little suprised how long we had to wait to get tickets that were half way decent let alone sitting together. Would have been another month to get anything better than we had.

Anyone else seen the stage show of it? I was a little tempted when I was in NY a bit over a year ago but decided to see the Lion King instead. It was so much easier on Broadway to walk up the box office the morning before and purchase some tickets that way.

Most of my drama class is doing a production of King Lear. I would be doing such too if I wasn't so damn lazy.I missed the auditions.

For 6^th Form Theatre we had to read and perform a bit of Doll's House and Blood Wedding. Plus I've seen a few plays.

I did The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 my junior year in school. I played Patrick O'Reilly and had a blast doing it.

My favorite play though would have to be Twelve Angry Men, or The Odd Couple.

I saw Waiting for Godot when the production with (sir) Ian McKellen in it came through town. I thought Roger Rees played a good part but I can only imagine what it must've been like with McKellen and Patrick Stewart as it was a year ago...I think it's the sort of play that only draws you in with a good cast, but if you have the chance to see this particular production, you don't need my recommendation, you can listen to the critics.

Does any one of you know "The Merchant of Venice"?
while I find it to be anti-semitic it is quite an astonishing piece of wits, humor and creativity. What are your thoughts on it?

My God, am I obsessed with Little Shop of Horrors.  Got me into theatre.  I've seen it thrice, in two different theatres.  I already am planning to see a production in 2011.  Just... awesome.  Way better than the movie they released, too.  I wish they'd readd some of the deleted songs like We'll Have Tomorrow though.
