Spore: General / Re: Another reason to avoid alliances....
« on: September 15, 2008, 10:19:03 pm »
My alliances are the only reason my race is still alive! After being attacked by 2 strong empires when I had only 2 planets I payed my allies to destroy the attackers. I live in harmony ever since.

haha, that's the same strategy I used, but now there is this massive allied empire all over the place, and I just wish that I owned all those colonies... I'm jealous... :P

I love befriending rogue creatures. I got three of them in my posse once, and it was amazing, I would wipe out entire nests of 10 creatures with 60 or more hp in just a few minutes...  ;)

oh, I see what you mean now. I agree that it's simply unfeasable though, and it just defeats the point of the game anyway. It's not meant to be a flawlessly accurate depiction of reality, it's just a set of tools to play around with. What's cool about spore is that you can bring your imagination to bear, and even though there isn't a very complex physics engine enabled, you can still make a vehicle look like it's being driven by a hamster-wheel!  ;)

I see soooo much of Smjjames's creations in my game its not funny. His creations are great, but I'd like to see things come from other players too.
hah, same here! :P I'm also getting quite a bit of your stuff very often as well.

I want to make a rat wheel. Basicaly a big wheel with rats inside running like hamsters.

There's no way that will ever happen with this game.  It would need a completely new, and very robust, physics engine to do that.  A Physics engine that would do little but slow down the game considerably with little to no game benefit.

Don't get me wrong, I like your idea :D.  But I just can't see it happening.

I think the vehicle editor is more than flexible enough to make something like this.

My first space stage game, I started next to some large religious empires and a small economic one. The religious empires quickly got pissed off at me and started owning me every 3 minutes, but I slowly paid off the economic empire to eat away at their colonies. So now I'm left with two very small religious empires and an extremely large economic empire next to me!!!
So much fun... ;D

its taken a while to build and while it is impressive to look at, its nowhere near what it was meant to be. but the foundations are the hardest part to build, and the rest of the magnificent building will be errected very quickly from there on out.

well said!  ;)
Haven't played the game yet, but hopefully I'll have it in my hands in just a couple of hours. I sincerely think that the balance issues will quickly be resolved. I wouldn't be surprised if we had a patch within the next couple of weeks. If Maxis wants Spore to grow large, they need to harness the power of word-of-mouth, and if people are telling each other that the game is crap because space stage is difficult, then they're going to have a problem. I think everything is under control, and that people should be a little more optimistic.

Look at this from my tracking info:

September 7, 2008     08:00:00 AM     LOUISVILLE KY US     Arrival Scan
September 7, 2008    01:17:00 AM    OAKLAND CA US    Departure Scan
September 6, 2008    10:00:00 PM    OAKLAND CA US    Arrival Scan

Why the heck did it go from California to Kansas??? I LIVE in California you nuts (at UPS). its entirely possible that its placed on a route that takes it to San Diego....

HAHA, the exact same thing happened to me... I live at Berkeley, CA and it arrived in oakland then zoomed off to kentucky...makes no sense! What a waste of energy!

Spore: General / Re: Sporepedia: The "Most Popular Creations" issue
« on: September 05, 2008, 12:13:01 pm »
Yeah I see what you mean. I always kind of ignored the most popular section myself because it always did seem to display the same stuff. Your "most popular this week" idea would seem a little more fair and intelligent.

I'm just subscribing to a bunch of sporecasts right now. I'm actually so excited to see one of my own creatures in the game. Do any of you playing the game know how that's going to work? Do you have to somehow specify that you want your creatures pollinated into your game, or does it just do it automatically?

AAgh! It's so hard to read all these reviews and know that I still have 4 or 5 days to wait before I can get my hands on this thing!!!  ;)

Just a quick question. I don't have the game yet, but is there some way to simply say: Pollinate my universe with everything from sporepedia, just as long as it's high-rated, or has many comments, or something like that? I'm not sure I want to go and find every single GS member and add him manually to my list...

I think I'm just passing 50 now. I also have about 10 creatures i started but never uploaded.

I'm hoping they have some kind of "highest rated" option I can pick for pollinating my universe, because I don't just want gamingsteve member's creatures, and I'm a little too lazy to go find the people who make the best creatures and manually add them to a list (which kind of ruins the whole surprise of seeing a cool creature, since you've already basically handpicked it from sporepedia)
