Title: Please post your Spore questions for me here...
Post by: Gaming Steve on May 24, 2005, 11:11:15 pm
So instead of trying to read like a million different threads at once and possibly missing your question, please post your question here. That way I can easily find and answer your questions because I have a feeling that tomorrow morning there are going to be a lot more questions! Thanks.

Any idea if their's like a roman style or medieval type ministage between city and tribal?

Moved my question here from 'Blow your mind parts One & Two' thread...

Just wondering, since you mentioned underwater creatures, any word on whether flying creatures are possible? I seemed to remember a flying creature being referenced (whether by example or not I don't know), in one of the gamespy or gamespot articles, so any info is appreciated. thanks ;)

Would it be possible to make a gorilla-like creature that walks with his hands mainly? How would he hold his weapons?

And to add to my others in the other spore questions thread... (I might wind up asking duplicates)

- Is it possible to have your planet not allow other players' content? (i.e., the player finds a huge asteroid/moon, and turn it into a zoo of different creatures to watch them interact).

- Is it possible to create new, or modify existing tools and features? (for example, if in the creature builder, I want a claw to be bigger, more hand like, and have 7 fingers instead of 3 or 5, or if I want the create to have an extoskeleton)

- Is it possible to evole an appendage (like a fin and evolve it by stretching, adding bone structure) rather than simply adding a leg? (This is my main concern about this game in that it won't allow a fluid progression, but rather, a jumpy one. That is, the player won't be able to gradually turn the fin into a foot and have it become a foot, or gradually develop lungs instead of gills, or even keep the gills all together. Maybe the players wants a "Sea Crawler" on a high gravity planet...)

- Is it possible to go back into Animal Mode or any other mode? (i.e., in the case of the Zoo Planet, the player wants to see how those creatures evolve and interact)

- Is it possible to control more than one species on the same planet?

- Can one determine the type of athmosphere the planet will have when terraforming it? (i.e., when the player triggers a volcano, they expect methane gas, and sulphur). Would it then be possible (as in the above question) to switch into cell mode to see how these creatures will evolve?

- Is it possible to recreate a planet (or increase the size) by using asteroids?

- Is it possible to export a planet (such as a zoo, or an experimental planet of somesort) into a private universe where it wouldn't be influenced by other players?

- Would a creature feel the gravitational and athmospheric effects of another planet? (i.e., if a rich nitrogen breathing creature from a lightwieght world tries to invade a super-dense gravity, rich methane based world, would he survive, or be crushed by the gravity and/or gases? Would the spaceship be crushed as it's made for the less gravity world?)

- If whatever your controlling is destroyed, be it your Creature in the Evo stage, City in the City Stage, or UFO in the Space age, what will happen?

- Will the game focus on just one galaxy, or more than one?

- What system (if any) will there be for controlling what content is given to your system? (Immature Content, etc)

- How come Will is so Awesome? ;D

EDIT

- Will the UFO be the only Space-Based vehicle? I'd love to see battles in Space  :D

- Any clue on what the system spec's might be yet?

- How long will it take approximately to go from Single Cell life to Space Age conquest on Average?

- In the demo, we can see Asteroids - are they just free-roaming objects, that wont effect worlds, or will Asteroid impacts occur?

- In the demo, you can see two planets which cross each other's orbit path. Will they ever collide?

- In the demo, Will looked at a Blue Giant and said something like "Thats a Blue Giant, its going to become a Supernova, so I'm gonna keep away from that". Does this mean that Star's have life-cycles?

- Last mention of the demo...Will showed us the Nebula in the middle of the galaxy - will this actually create new stars, or is it just eye-candy?

- Will there be Day/Night cycles?

Hmm... one of the things that I didn't see in the demo (aside from the title screen, and so on and so forth) were the "time controls" (i.e. pause, normal speed, double speed and so forth) and a location for the options menu. Now, one can assume that the options menu will be there, with whatever options are required, but about the time controls... Is there any insight into the existence of a pause and/or fast-forward feature for when the game is released?

Does the game decide where in the creature's body it puts all the squishy organ stuff or can you manually decide you, say, want to put his brain in the tail?

- will it be possible to remain in a certain stage of evolution?
- will there be ice planets?
- how big can cities become?
- will we have planets with really (!!) dense forests?

are the creatures going to need to drink water? If they don't than their wouldn't be much point in making a crocodile-like animal.

also if you move onto land, can you maove back to the water, and if so would you still breathe air?

Edit: Can you colonize a gas planet with floeting cities?

Can you have twin suns? planets?

Will there be infantry combat?

Is there going to be pets, or slavery?

And what about genetic resp. cybernetic engineering? Will you be able to customise your species in the civ or the space era, ie. make it stronger or more intelligent, using genetics or implants?

Oh and: can you make floating creatures (with some kinda gas-sack inside, like a flying meduse)? Will there be flying cities?

What is there for herbavores to eat? Are there fruits, nuts, berries and seeds or is it just leaves and grass?

Can creatures climb?

Can creatures glide? (but not quite have the power to fly)

Being an omnivore is a clear advantage over being a carnivore or a herbavore, because of the versitility in food sources. Will there be some sort of 'price' to pay for being an omnivore (like needing more 'points' to evolve) that would make players be inclined to choose a specialist rather than an Omnivore?

What determines heat and cold tolerances of creatures? I would hope the creatures on a tundra planet would look different than those on a desert planet.

Will mentioned that the tribal stage would determine how emotional/logcial a race would be. I'm wondering what the exact effects of emotion vs. logic will be. A logical race could just as easily be peaceful as it could be warlike. Same goes for the emotional extreme.

It was said that when you become sentiant you would control only one of several tribes of your race. How many is "several"?

What are the social ramifications of being a solitary vs. a group creature when they evolve sentiance. Even 'solitary' creatures begin to live in groups, do herd creatures act differently?

In the video, the agressive city also had Will's tripods living in it. Is it possible to have OTHER races on the same planet at the city stage?

When Will was doing the first contact light show, did they attack him because they were warlike, or because he screwed up the message?

Since you need to mate to lay an egg on the animal stage, there must be others of your species. How many other members of your species is the world populated with? Does the number increase as you become more successful and decrease as you get killed?

Just a few things that hit my mind after watching the video and hearing the interview

I would think so. I would think that it might be difficult for this creature to advance since would have to stop to use their weapon. Also there might be other types of weapons in the games besides the ones we know (spears and the like).

-- Not sure yet, but you have to opt into the online content.

-- Not sure yet, but I have not seen the ability to add or remove fingers from a hand.

-- Again, not sure yet, but I believe so. It seems that the only thing which is 100% "needed" to evolve is a backbone.

-- Yes you can go back into other modes, sort of, later in the game (if you have enough technology).

-- Not that I know of.

-- I would think that you can control the atmosphere, I don't think you can go back into cell mode like the way you describe.

-- No idea.

-- No idea (don't think this has been determined yet).

-- No idea but I know that it is in theory possible.

1. Will planets be one-environment planets like snow planets, water planets, fire planets, desert planets, etc. or will we see more realistic planets with many different environments (like Earth)? Because the planets we've seen so far have only had one or two environments, like the home planet which had mostly savannah and a little bit of grass.

2. Earlier you said you couldn't post the recording of your interview with Will because of something like "sensitive information". I'm wondering why this changed.

I'd also like to know more about the circumstances involving your meeting with Will Wright (like how he found out about you, stuff like that). Thanks.

- If whatever your controlling is destroyed, be it your Creature in the Evo stage, City in the City Stage, or UFO in the Space age, what will happen?
* No idea, but I would think that you need to "buy" a new one with the currency being used in that stage.

- Will the game focus on just one galaxy, or more than one?
* Just one but you could in theory go to another galaxy and continue the game if you want (I have seen multiple galaxies).

- What system (if any) will there be for controlling what content is given to your system? (Immature Content, etc)
* Undetermined at this time.

- How come Will is so Awesome? ;D
* Because he's Will!

EDIT

- Will the UFO be the only Space-Based vehicle? I'd love to see battles in Space  :D
* Not sure, haven't seen anything else yet besides the UFO.

- Any clue on what the system spec's might be yet?
* Zero idea, but I saw it running off Will's laptop computer.

- How long will it take approximately to go from Single Cell life to Space Age conquest on Average?
* No idea, but "fairly" quickly. Perhaps just a few days (Will mentions this in the video demo that he doesn't have time to play deep games any more and wants to make a quick fun experience).

- In the demo, we can see Asteroids - are they just free-roaming objects, that wont effect worlds, or will Asteroid impacts occur?
* Unknown, but I believe this could happen in theory (I believe the engine supports this).

- In the demo, you can see two planets which cross each other's orbit path. Will they ever collide?
* No idea, but I would think that is possible.

- In the demo, Will looked at a Blue Giant and said something like "Thats a Blue Giant, its going to become a Supernova, so I'm gonna keep away from that". Does this mean that Star's have life-cycles?
* Again, no idea for sure, but I believe that is possible and this part of the game is still being worked on.

- Last mention of the demo...Will showed us the Nebula in the middle of the galaxy - will this actually create new stars, or is it just eye-candy?
* Wow, that is a good idea ... no idea. Again, I believe that aspect of the game is still being worked on.

- Will there be Day/Night cycles?
* Haven't seen anything at night, but keep in mind there is probably no "point" to having a night cycle since the timeline in this game is so quick (it would be like having a day night cycle in Civilization).

- You mention that it is possible to go back to the creature editer if you have the right technology. Does this mean that we can further change our creature past the evolution stages?

- Will says that the game will actually download content based on your own choices. Does this mean that at the begining of the game, the galaxy is not yet formed in the game or that planets are replaced as you make these choices? Or, in the case of planets, slowly change climates?

- Any idea of what other weapons we have in the tribal/civilization stages? Swords, shields, clubs. Guns, rockets, the like?

- Did you notice any more options in the creature editer compared to GDC or has Will mentioned adding more options or ieverything pretty much set on whats in the editeres?

- Any word on the types of buildings being used, how they function.

- How would the transition from primordial ooze to ocean creature work? Will has mentioned that the creature in the ooze gradually grows as it evolves, does it simply outgrow the ooze?

EDIT

- Are these terraform scores based on YOUR creature's idea for perfection or an overall perfection. Whats right for an ocean creature isn't right for a land creature. Creatures that live near the sun wouldn't do well on an ice planet.

- Does this kidnapping/ransom system mean that there are special people among different races? This would imply a system of government or atleast some special units.

Doh, thanks for that clarification. Didn't remember that from the transcript, my fault.

Oh well, might as well write some more questions while I'm posting. No use wasting forum space.  ;)

- How does the vehicle edit system work. I imagine its much like the building editor. Do you have many options for weapons or is it based on what type of vehicle it is. Is there a system for say center of balance, turn radius, speed and such?

- Any clarification on whether there is a differnence between male/female, whether you can choose one or the other?

EDIT

Guess he deleted his post.... thanks for the answer anyways.

most likely yes for the creatures for the planets i dont know
Title: Re: Please post your Spore questions for me here...
Post by: D_Malachi on May 25, 2005, 06:16:57 pm
Well, unless we can create our own planets, it seems unlikely that we'll be able to name them... could be wrong, though. Makes sense, as then you could introduce your creature as "so-and-so from Yechtar Ovaris 3." As for creatures, it would help if you get to manually download things from the server network. If you can't name them, all you'd probably get is "Land-based, carnivore, (insert other base details here)." So, untill names are proven or otherwise, I hope so. It'll give you a general idea of what to expect in a creature... then again, who can say outside of those that have the answer?

and will night/day cycle be in the game and will it play a roll?
Title: Re: Please post your Spore questions for me here...
Post by: xcoldcloudx on May 25, 2005, 06:25:26 pm
i think there will be a night day cycle as what it affects nothing just cool may affect tide (the moon affecting it)
Title: Re: Please post your Spore questions for me here...
Post by: krjal on May 25, 2005, 08:53:49 pm
That would be really complex to affect the tide wouldn't it?

I guess the simplest way would be to have a timer set by the speed and ecliptic and declination of the moon...but still that's pretty hard in itself.

Actually, will planets have different orbits to each other? so far they all seem to be on the same plane in any given sol system.

well, with modern physics engines etc tides wouldn't be too hard, and as for planets being in the same plane, they do that in real life. But they will probably put in rogue planets in irregular orbits. In the GDC video Will said that he disliked how space was always portrayed as 2-D.

While this question may have already been awnswered, but what are the plans for mouths? I know we will see many types, such as beaks, and also herbivore/carnivore differences. But I am curious about configuration. Will we have free control of where mouths can be placed? Could we have a creature with no mouth at all?
Title: Re: Please post your Spore questions for me here...

@TBIG: Probably so. In the GDC demo they showed a bird-thing with many beaks, probably indicating free control of mouth placement.

@Steve: Any word on slavery and domestication?
Title: Re: Please post your Spore questions for me here...

Will there be different intelligent life on the  starting planets ? by that i mean will there a  different race other than your own on you home planet. From what i have seen in the video so far is that he had only the same race on the planet, at the City stage of the game.

Could we have a creature with no mouth at all?

Thats a good question... If Steve doesn't get around to it, I would think that, you'd be able to have some other means of eating, besides a mouth. Maybe a type of absorbsion where you can just walk over something and eat that way.

EDIT: Or you could possibly make really tiny mouths that can't be seen, since it seems you must choose a mouth to have a classification of what type of eater you are.

Hmmmm... Now I have some questions...

Will there be some sort of Log so that we can keep track of plants and animals that we come across, as well as their names and possibly planets? I suppose the same goes for transportation and weapons/tools. Also what different buildings stand for and are used for with different creatures?

I think that would be a nice thing to have, incase you just want to read about the user created content you've come across.

I suppose that means that I'm also asking, if we have the ability to go into detail about our creatures and so on. If so, would there be any manditory things, like being required to name your creatures?

Finally, will there be a language barrier between different types of creatures on the same planet, and if so, durring the phases where allies are made, do you have to spend points or build a building that helps with the translation of different languages?

I guess thats it for me.

I'm curious about whether we'll be able to make amphibious creatures.  I would assume so, but it would be nice if there was any way to get some certainty.  It would be nice to have 2 possibilities when exploring new planets.  For example, the atmosphere on Planet X isn't all that hospitable, but there is plenty of ocean, so the creatures just dive in and colonize underwater.  But then they go to Planet Y where the air isn't so bad, and there's a lot of useful stuff on the surface, so they colonize on the ground instead.  Also, it would be rather cool in the Civ portion of the game to actually have an underwater city vs. a land-based city of the same race.  Those fights would just be rather cool.

Yes you can. The FAQ is being updated but this question will answer yours.

Q. Can you make a species of creature sentient without leaving the water?
A. Yes and you can have underwater cities. In addition you can make domed cities full of water on planets that don't have water just like you can have domed cities with air on planets without a breathable atmosphere or underwater cities for your land creatures.

i read that in the FAQ, but that only refers to aquatic creatures.  I'm talking about amphibians, creatures that can live in the water as easily as out of it.  i havent seen anything about that specifically.  again, i would assume so, but it would be nice to see if there's any official word on it.

To all the "can you make..." questions:
(From the FAQ)
Q. Can you create a [insert whacky idea for creature]?
A. The creature creator is apparently extremely dynamic and versatile, using a sophisticated version of the Sims creation software seen in The Sims 2. Beings ranging from the reptilian, tail-handed tripod created by Will Wright, to the infamous Carebear where seen during the demonstration. Depending on how whacky your idea is, it seems likely that you'll be able to create something at least approximating it.

I have a question as well though. Will there be some sort of a filter? I mean, as mentioned several times before, I dont think it would be a good idea to let anyone make anything then send it to everyone playing the game. Pornographic animals are not a good thing plus it would make the game be rated "R".

To what extent to we actually control the buildings? I don't mean placement (thanks for clearing that up for me, by the way. You -can- put them wherever you want.)

As far as the demo goes to tell us, there are four types of building: entertainment, farm, factory, and housing.
Entertainment is probably for happiness, farming for food supply, factories for the vehicles, and houses so they can "make babies".
I'm just wondering if the creatures will auto assign themselves to work in the farming building or the factories or go get entertained when they need it, or make babies when they feel frisky. I'm not sure I'd like to assign every single one of them to a task, but it would be a bit odd if they just generated all the resources completely automatically.
Obviously keeping them happy is necessary, but if they just go to the "entertainment" building whenever they want, what am I doing here?

Of course, I figure that within the four categories are different types of buildings. Like the vehicle editor (as I think Will called it) in the video seemed to double as a vehicle purchasing screen. Does this mean that for things like entertainment, I'll have to plunk down different types or values of happy giving buildings, like casinos or theaters or gyms or such?

Then there's the point about other tasks for your creatures. Are they really just going to run around the town like that, or will they venture a little ways out to gather food and money generating resources? In games like Empire Earth, it was sometimes necessary to send guys at least a short ways away to get a few things.
For farms, do they just go into the building and produce food? That's a little odd. I figure the farm building would be more like a market or something.
But again, the "farms" section may just lead into more buildings like actual fields or granaries or mines or market buildings like that.
Nobody may be able to answer these questions just yet, but I'll wait for it.

Spore is fun to wonder about.

sorry if this has already been posted i juast couldn't be bothered to read the 5 pages of posts

How do cities/vehicles/ work for flying creatures?

Are weapons customisable for sure (read my thread 'weapon customisation rationally confirmed Steve??)

some dude said something about satellites is that true

are ufo's definately customisable because in the demo he just gets one he doesn't show an editor screen my computer doesn't have sound at the moment so i couldn't hear what he was saying

Chances are, none of that is programmed yet.  The game is still in relatively early stages.  I'll bet there will be some kind of physics engine (that fits really well with the whole procedural programming base already in the game), it's just not yet implemented.

Did Will Mention anything about the intricacies (sp?) of the cross breeding in your interview?
I was just wondering if its going to be the same sorta thing, ie. go into the creature editor and make what you want, or is it going to be a random B*stard offspring of the two parents?

Hmm... one of the things that I didn't see in the demo (aside from the title screen, and so on and so forth) were the "time controls" (i.e. pause, normal speed, double speed and so forth) and a location for the options menu. Now, one can assume that the options menu will be there, with whatever options are required, but about the time controls... Is there any insight into the existence of a pause and/or fast-forward feature for when the game is released?

Haven't seen anything directly, but I imagine the game will work in a similar manner as The Sims. Basic time controls.

Keep in mind that the interface you have all seen to date is not nearly the final one, I know that they're still working on it.

Does the game decide where in the creature's body it puts all the squishy organ stuff or can you manually decide you, say, want to put his brain in the tail?

I believe there are two "types" of parts for all creatures -- parts you can control the directly placement and parts you can't. Most parts you can directly control the placement, such as legs, arms, eyes, mouth, etc. But some items you can't directly control, such as the backbone (you can control the size of the backbone, but not the placement, it needs to be in the back).

However, the only item I saw which "needed" to be in a certain place was the backbone. Everything else seemed to be fair game. Since dinos had brains in their tails I would imagine that it might be an option to place a brain in a different part of the body.

However (again) if the brain placement doesn't directly figure into the gameplay (i.e. the creature will behave the exact same if the brain is in the head or the tail) then I don't think you'll get an option for brain placement.

Can you change how the creature sounds(as in speaking)? Will we hear and be able to decipher what the creatures say?

I do not know about this one. I would think that you can indirectly control the sound of the creature as this is such a vitial element to the game.

You will be able to decipher what creatures say, but I do not think you can "directly" understand them. It will probably be indirect such as in The Sims where you get an "idea" of what they're talking about, but you won't hear exact speech and the like.

Except for the missions, those will probably be a bit more clear (but probably still use icons such as in The Sims 2).

- will it be possible to remain in a certain stage of evolution?
- will there be ice planets?
- how big can cities become?
- will we have planets with really (!!) dense forests?

-- There is a "point" in which you will change to the next stage of evolution. So until you grow a backbone you can't evolve past a certain stage of the game. However, I believe they are still working out if this will be "forced" upon the player or if they can just hang out in a single stage forever. That is more of a game design question, and most of those sort of questions are still undetermined.

-- Probably.

-- Not 100% sure, I have never seen a city larger than those in the GDC video.

-- Probably (there will be many different types of terrain in the game).

are the creatures going to need to drink water? If they don't than their wouldn't be much point in making a crocodile-like animal.

also if you move onto land, can you maove back to the water, and if so would you still breathe air?

Edit: Can you colonize a gas planet with floeting cities?

Can you have twin suns? planets?

-- Not sure, I have only seen "eating" to date.

-- Unknown.

-- No floating cities.

-- Haven't seen twin suns yet, but the engine can appear to handle them no problem (the engine has an advanced gravity simulator built in for just about any type of solar system).

-- Probably, but I haven't seen this directly.

-- Perhaps.

-- Not sure about your species, you can change other creatures (you basically get the ability to use the creature editor for free on any other creature).

-- No floating cities.

What is there for herbavores to eat? Are there fruits, nuts, berries and seeds or is it just leaves and grass?
* Unknown, but I would believe there will be fruits, nuts, and the like (don't forget you can eat plants as well).

Can creatures climb?
* Not sure, never saw that.

Can creatures glide? (but not quite have the power to fly)
* Yes.

* Game design question, not 100% sure at this point.

What determines heat and cold tolerances of creatures? I would hope the creatures on a tundra planet would look different than those on a desert planet.
* You do (in theory). If you make a creature with thick fur a lot of muscle mass you might "appear" on cold planet once you leave the water. Same thing with heat. Creature types will populate the planet based upon the planet specs (i.e. on ocean planets you'll find a ton of water-based creatures and some land-based).

Will mentioned that the tribal stage would determine how emotional/logcial a race would be. I'm wondering what the exact effects of emotion vs. logic will be. A logical race could just as easily be peaceful as it could be warlike. Same goes for the emotional extreme.
* I believe that this will be a bit more simple than you describe, and a bit more complex. Such as if you are a logical/peaceful race you can fight, but you won't be very good at fighting (but you will be very good a diplomacy). Every race can do everything, but some will be naturally better than others because of their culture/emotions/logic.

It was said that when you become sentiant you would control only one of several tribes of your race. How many is "several"?
* Unknown, game balance question.

What are the social ramifications of being a solitary vs. a group creature when they evolve sentiance. Even 'solitary' creatures begin to live in groups, do herd creatures act differently?
* I do not know, only saw social creatures.

In the video, the agressive city also had Will's tripods living in it. Is it possible to have OTHER races on the same planet at the city stage?
* No, once a single race become the dominate speices they "take over" the planet and become the top of the food chain on that planet. There will be other races on the planet, but only one dominate speices.

When Will was doing the first contact light show, did they attack him because they were warlike, or because he screwed up the message?
* It could have been either! It will take time to figure out how to communicate with other speices. Will could have also given them a "gift" instead of blowing them up...

Since you need to mate to lay an egg on the animal stage, there must be others of your species. How many other members of your species is the world populated with? Does the number increase as you become more successful and decrease as you get killed?
* Not sure.

Hmm... one would assume not, unless of course you can add, say... a wire frame above the core of the planet, at a safe distance from that part of the planet at least, then gradually add "plates" to cover the holes, since it's a wire frame... then add cities, vegetation, perhaps a slightly more suitable atmosphere if that actually plays a role in the survival of your creatures.

But, unless they can implement such a thing, it looks unlikely.
Title: Re: Please post your Spore questions for me here...

Then what would happen if you used the Genisis Device on it?
Title: Re: Please post your Spore questions for me here...
Post by: D_Malachi on June 01, 2005, 05:48:16 pm
Well, at a guess, it attempts to terraform the entire planet (didn't see a "trail" behind it, much like the volcano beam), it makes the surface livable (adds a small amount of vegetation, adds water in the low parts of the planet (the craters on that planet, from the video), and adds a small amount of atmosphere that, presumably, either continues adding atmosphere, or you need to add volcanoes to fill it out.

Now, going from the theory (guesswork) that the Genesis Device simply makes the surface livable and adds a certain amount of atmosphere, or at least modifies the atmosphere to a livable one (more guesswork), the best it could do is augment the atmosphere at least a bit. Have yet to see it create land where none exists at that time, only water... So, at a guess, it won't do a blasted thing towards making it habitable and leave it at that until we've more information on the matter.

The question was only whether the could glide or not, and he said yes.  there was no response either way as to whether actual flying is possible.  i would assume it is, because the flying creature i the GDC video was definitely flying, not just gliding.

also, you probably can't populate gas giants, but you've got to remember that the huge gravity of these planets causes them to have tons of moons, which we will be able to colonize.  so, even though we wont be able to actually live on the planet itself, we'll be able to just completely surround it by taking over all the moons :P

Er, sorry to bring this up again, but...

It seems like a few people are hoping that this game won't be too "kid-friendly."  I don't see the problem, it's just your mental attitude.  When an eight-year-old makes a Pikachu, it's "stupid!!!", but when Will Wright makes a Care Bear, it's "GENIUS LOL!  8)".

So, yeah.  I don't see the big issue with having little kids playing the game.  I'm sure they'd enjoy it just as much as we would (who are the biggest fans of Lego and K'Nex?) and depriving them of the experience seems pointless.  Besides, there will probably some sort of content filter in the game that will allow you to keep stuff you don't want to see out of your galaxy.

Is it possible to save your creature periodically and let it evolve on its' own as a seperate creature in your planet?

i.e., suppose I make an eel-like creature that slithers/flops onto land. It branches off into a more snake like creature which is longer, but loses its' fins, and a creature with longer (stubbier) fins that would turn into a Salamandar type creature. Would it be possible to save the snake-like creature and see how it evolves while I'm playing with the salamandar-like creature?

(who are the biggest fans of Lego and K'Nex?)

Hey, I love legos! But then again, I don't see why kids wouldnae enjoy this. I know I would have absolutely LOVED to have this as a kid. And seriously, kids aren't pikachu fanboys, they're full of new ideas and drawrings that are cute in a crappy sort of way. I'd love to get the Spore Editor and give it to a bunch of kiddies and see what they make. Note to self: Do that.

I know that when I was your age *spit* I would have loved to be able to draw something then see it all come to life. But you kids nowadays are wusses, not like in my day. In my day, toddlers went out hunting bears and smiting elves and stuff, but you kids have your tee-vees and your spore and all of that. Not like in my day, why back then... *snore*

NOTE TO ANYEVERYBODY: I am the exact opposite of old. I'm 14.

No-one could make a pikachu so accurate that it would violate copyright laws anyway, so we shouldnt worry!
Unless someone goes a little crazy and spends a little too long on one we should be fine!

Did you see Will's Carebear? It was a very good resemblance, so a Pikachu may not be that difficult either  ;)

I can see myself running away from a rampaging carnivorous Pikachu only to be ambushed by a giant penis.

And loving every second of it.

Will you be able to determine if your creature's fur is curly or straight?

Will your creature need to have graspers in order to evolve sentience?

Can you determine the colors and pattern of your creature's fur/scales/feathers?

Stever - in your last pod-cast you said something like...

We thought Spore looked pretty close to completion but its actually a Loooong way off
Could you say what is falling short so far? Just tell me to shut the hell up and listen to the PC again if its in there :) I just had a crazy hope that if the editor is functioning well, we might see a Spore version of the Sims 2 body-shop thingy

Thanks  :)

Most of my questions have either been answered or already covered, however what about battles or conflict at the tribe level, and how will tribes be represented underwater? Having an underwater hut and campfire seems quite odd.

Maybe instead of a camp fire it could be a thermal vent but then again they could just substitue it for something else since the fire I think just represents something to help their thinking along.

I think it was briefly mentioned somewhere that you could take your tribe out on hunts...I wonder if some kind of pack hunting would be possible in the pre-tribal stages.

I'd like info on herds, and how they'll work ingame. Also, can you hunt down herds of your own creature and develop into a culture of stalking cannibals? Will there be any way to add flavour text to our things that other players will view? How about walking vehicles, are they in? Can creatures inside cities still be hunted down and can they still fight back?

Did will say in the GDC video that you could create objects too, or can you only buy preset ones?
Too lazy to check...

Hmm... nope, don't think he said anything specifically to that regard, but it's not to be ruled out entirely until they release a yes or no on the matter (See how I do these things? No matter what happens, never going to be wrong if I keep saying "maybe" like that... Brilliant! (Disregard that))

Though, seeing as how you can modify the crap out of (or into, if that's what you're after) anything and everything (creatures, buildings, vehicles, plants), it seems within reason that you COULD change things like the fire pits, not just a stock one for land/air (what, flying creatures get FLOATING fires?!) and, at a guess, thermal vents for sea-based ones... but I doubt you'll be able to change them too vastly. Maybe you could be able to turn your fire pit into one of those Easter Island heads with the mouth open, and the fire inside of that... who can say? But that, actually, doesn't sound too bad.

Will it be possible for Herd or pack animals to exist (instead of every creature being the solo hunter..)??

It seems that the only time you interact with other creatures of your own species is when you mate or when you form a tribe (and beyond)

Steve, i dont know if this question has been asked yet here or in another topic, but since there are going to be black holes etc in the game, will there be a giant black hole at the centre of the galazies?

I only ask as this is now widely beleived to be a working theory in some scientific circles
Title: Re: Please post your Spore questions for me here...

They are included in the game, and seeing as the game sees to have pretty realistic stellar representation, the whole black hole at the centre idea sounds quite very possible!

Will there be sports you can make for your creatures?
Will you be able to create a religion for your creatures?
Can you make plants that move?
