Just wondering what is your "golden game" that one special game you loved just a bit more than the others, one of those games you just cant stop playing or couldn't get enough of as a child.
For me it has to be populous, I've loved that game since I first played it on the master system. I used to sit up all night with my mum (yeah my mum loved the game 2, she liked the fact that you had to think to play it and was genuinely quite good at the game, though nothing could compare to her amazing skill at lemmings) playing populous. Recently I discovered that it was game of the year on the year I was born, which may explain my obsession.

Final Fantasy VII.

For me it would depend on the Console/Computer/Era
Atari 2600 - Combat (multiplayer oh yeah!)
Atari 800 computer : Mercenary- Escape from Targ
Apple II- Ultima IV
Early PC (386 and younger) - F-19 Stealth Fighter
Middle PC (486-P400) - Total Annihilation/Diablo 2
Modern PC (P450-current) - Trainz/Trainz2004 by Auran (I'm a train nut) and X-Plane

Theme park.
For the sega genesis/mega-drive.
As a kid, my parents flat out refused to pay the cash for a game. But rentals were allowed.
I ended up renting this game about 300 times :)
god I milked them. :D

Well, for the game I've played the most, it's either Colonization or Oregon Trail...
but one of my favorite games ever would probably be Zork... I loved Zork oh so much, but didn't beat it until very recently.
Wait, scratch that, my favorite game was Discover the World when I was a kid. Ah, sailing around with my fleet, accidentally surrendering to pirates because I didn't know what "surrender" meant, and coming back to Lisbon with enough loot to crash the game engine... those were the days.

Has to be Marathon. First game I ever bought. Was on 4 3.5 inch floopy disks. It did not run well on my computer either, but it was so much fun.
-
Ultima V (I think it was V... the one with the Shadowlords and the Underworld)... I loved that game. In particular, I dug the little dance the Headless did...
-
Civilization 2. I've been playing it since it came out and I still play it today.
-
A microprose game... Either Master of Orion(I/II), Master of Magic, or Civilization (II) :)
I also have a special place in my heart for Liero ;)
-
The Sims...
Heat
-
Morrowind (still playing) just because the community made so many awesome mods for it. An already endless game expanded beyond.
-
HARD question. But I consider my Golden Game to be the one that brings up the most fond memories.
Lucasart's masterpiece and best game they've ever made....
TIE Fighter.
Still play it today... long live the Empire...n....stuff. Ten years later, I still have the MIDI music stuck in my head (and is possibly the overall best score ever written for a game).

X-com -- that game lasted forever.
-
Which one?
UFO
Terror From the Deep
Or Apocalypse

I know I've mentioned this a couple times in some other threads on this board, but (like a broken record player ;D) Freedom Fighter's probably got to be my favorite game of all time, because it has a bit more wit than most other shooters out there. I'm playing through it a second time, and it's still fun as hell; their level design is so great. I almost want to buy a second copy for the GameCube, because the pc version had the multiplayer ripped-out. :P
-
the entire Heroes of Might and Magic series, and Ragnarok Online
-
Simcity 2000
-
the sims 2. (but don't tell my other games that, or they may purposly stop working for me. lol.)
-
Well, It may not have been the first game I ever played, but it was the first game I ever ownd Starfox 64 for the N64 was great. I remember playing it when I was 8 and I still play it from time to time today. ;D When I play the game I can say every word the characters say before they say it and I get this very wounderful feeling doing it.
